Chapter Text
Alchemist was in the middle of perfecting yet another one of her experiments when Vampire had decided to walk in.
“Morning” he said mid-yawn as he made his way towards a nearby table. It was covered with papers scattered all over, books about alchemy, her notes, and equations written in quick sloppy handwriting. Out of curiosity, Vampire grabbed a few papers and sat down.
“Good morning now can you leave? I don't need you ruining something like you always do” alchemist replied to her brother, not even bothering to look up.
Vampire was glancing over the papers he was holding. He had no idea what any of it meant, and frankly didn't care too much to look into it either. Instead, he opted to toss the notes back onto the table.
“Relax, there's no need to be all grumpy.” vampire stretched and rested his legs on the tabletop, crinkling a few of the papers, and even dropping a few on accident.
As annoyed as Alchemist was, she just ignored him and pretended as if he wasn't even there. There was no need to waste any physical or mental energy on her brother when she could be using it on her alchemy instead.
Vampire was getting bored by just sitting around and doing nothing, so he got up and started looking around his sisters' lab, observing all the different chemicals and potions.
Looking over at the book in her hand, alchemist realized that she was missing a chemical, so she jumped off her stool and went to get it. When she had chosen to pretend as if vampire wasn't even there, she meant it, bumping into him and not reacting or even acknowledging that he was in the way.
Vampire had gotten the hint at this point and decided to leave. Alchemist was obviously in no mood to talk or even have him around. He had better things to do anyway, like actually living life and having fun.
However, Too busy getting lost in his own thoughts' vampire hadn't been paying attention to anything around him. This caused him to trip over alchemists stool. This wouldn't have been an issue in itself if he hadn't grabbed onto her cauldron to brace his fall.
Within seconds all the contents in the cauldron had spilled all over the floor, splashing directly onto vampire and some even on alchemist.
The force of the heavy cauldron hitting the floor had shaken the whole room, causing the various potions and chemicals alchemist kept stored on the shelves above to fall and break. Glass shattered and flew everywhere. The different chemical reactions had caused all sorts of small explosions and smoke.
Alchemist let out a cough as she waved the smoke out of her face. She looked at her lab, her once fairly kept together lab that was now completely trashed.
Her notes, the chemicals she spent months trying to find, the potions she created all on her own, the ones she was most proud of, all of it was now gone. Mixed together in a disgusting puddle that was spreading all across the floor.
Vampire sat up and rubbed his head, checking his body to make sure there were no wounds that he needed to treat. Thankfully, besides a small headache and being soaking wet, he was fine. He was about to get up and leave when he finally noticed his sister who was standing in front of him physically shaking from anger and tears that were on the verge of falling from her eyes.
“WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST LEAVE WHEN I TOLD YOU TOO!” her voice started to crack
“ALL YOU EVER DO IS MESS EVERYTHING UP! EVERY TIME YOU’RE AROUND, SOMETHING ALWAYS GOES WRONG!” she let out a scream of frustration and started pacing, trying her best to not destroy her lab any further.
Vampire just stared at her in shock. He was about to get up and apologize but alchemist cut him off and stared directly at him. She was now towering over him, which made vampire feel weak.
“Not only that, but I hate you.” is all alchemist said, it's all she repeated
“I hate you. I hate you. I hate you.”
Her voice had cracked completely. Tears were falling from her eyes. She was shaking. Vampire didn't know what to do.
“I'm sorry. I'm so sorry…” he said, looking directly into his sister's eyes. He felt powerless.
“I don't want to hear it!”
Vampire didn't know how to reply, so the two just stared at each other, the only thing to be heard was the heavy breathing and sniffling coming from alchemist
“I wish I had just left you in that damn oven. My life would have been so much easier if I did.”
.
.
.
It felt like vampire's heart had been torn in half, literally. His chest started to hurt, and he could hear his heartbeat in his ears. Breathing suddenly became a difficult task.
He looked up at the alchemist, but everything was so blurry and fuzzy, as if he were in a dream. She was still talking, but it sounded so muffled and jumbled together, he couldn't make out a word she was saying. Vampire didn't understand what was happening, but he just couldn’t stop shaking.
“I'm… going to leave…”
His body felt so heavy, like weights had replaced his legs and back. The door looked so far away, it felt like everything was going in slow motion. Nonetheless, he pushed through and walked out what used to be the lab. He heard alchemist let out a cry of frustration but paid no attention to it.
Walking up the stairs to his room was a nightmare that left him much more exhausted than he already was. He opened his bedroom door and just let his body collapse on the floor. Vampire was so tired, but he was in such a panicked state that it felt nearly impossible to close his eyes and rest. If he tried, his body would just jolt him awake as if he was in danger and needed to run.
There was nothing vampire could do but cry. He cried and cried and cried, cried to the point that his face hurt, to the point where his throat was so soar no sound was coming out, cried to the point there were no more tears to fall. He felt so powerless.
More than anything, he hated this feeling, but maybe alchemist was right. Perhaps he should have been left in the oven.
I mean… he didn't really add anything useful and when he tried it usually backfired. All he's known for is being some lazy alcoholic, who would miss that? If he weren't here to ruin everything, maybe life would be easier not just for alchemist… but everyone else.
