THE MORNING
This morning the room wasn’t filled with the sound of Jazz playing in the nearby street. It was rather quiet and that is what waked you up.
You opened your eyes adjusting to the light. You were laid on your back with Elijah’s arm around your hips, his face resting on the crock of your neck, eyes closed sleeping peacefully on his tummy. As he heard you move he opened his eyes, you smiled down at him passing your hand in his dark hair.
‘Merry Christmas my love’ he whispers to you, his hand caressing your face
‘merry Christmas elijah’ you reply leaning down to kiss him, he moves up to meet your lips halfway
‘do we have to go down immediately or we can stay here a bit?’ you ask him with pleading eyes after the kiss, wanting to enjoy a quiet morning with your husband
‘it’s Christmas we can take things slow’ he tells you before he rolls on his back gently taking you with him so that now he is laid on his back and your head on his chest the rest of your body pressed on his side.
You stay there for an unknown period of time, as he caresses your hair as you drift in and out of sleep at the sound of his heartbeat as you hold onto each other’s. He looks at you smiling, is not often that you two can enjoy some quiet time in bed, but it’s Christmas and this should be your present.

After a couple of hours spent cuddling in bed is already late morning so you and Elijah get dressed to spend the day with your family. You settle for something more elegant than usual as it’s an important occasion, while Elijah is in his usual suit with you adjusting the green tie you asked him to wear for the occasion.
He opens the door for you and follows you behind as you go to meet up with the mikaelson family.
‘look who decided to show up, the love birds finally decided to leave the nest’ says Klaus teasingly as you and Elijah enter the kitchen.
‘easy niki it’s Christmas, we should all be more good’ you scold your brother-in-law
‘merry Christmas to you too brother’ elijah tells him as you give Klaus a kiss on the cheek before stealing a beignet from the table
‘just some teasing. You are late for the breakfast I made’ Klaus says proudly pointing at the enormous amount of food
‘niklaus you never cooked once in your life’ elijah points out getting seated after moving a chair for you as you two sit in front of the table
‘okay the breakfast I compelled others to make’ he admits but before you all can laugh
‘good you are all here. We can start celebrate’ Hayley says entering the room with Hope in her arms and Jackson following behind
‘merry Christmas’ you greet her as Klaus takes his daughter in his own arms and as you and elijah stand up to greet the family, ‘merry Christmas little one’ says elijah kissing his niece’s cheek
‘is this little one first Christmas so we better make it special’ you say picking up Hope from her father as elijah stands behind you his hand resting on the back of your shoulder as he gives his niece a kiss on top of her head as you bunch her in your arms
‘exactly what I was saying. I wanted a happy family Christmas and the family is all here’ says Hayley eying Klaus who is not so keen of the idea
‘let the show begin then’ says Klaus giving up

The day had been trilling you had watched Hayley’s favorite Christmas movie scolding elijah when he commented how cinema was not good anymore.
You had baked some cookies making an absolute mess of the kitchen as it had turned in a food fight when Rebekah had throwed at Klaus’s face some flour ending with elijah’s black suit becoming almost like a cow as was full of flour strains. you girls laughed while the boys were not so amused.
‘I will have my payback y/n’ Elijah whispered to you as the others were distracted, knocking the air out of your lungs
‘I’ll hold to that promise Mr. Mikaelson’ you replied to him smirking as your staring was becoming too intense for a family situation, especially because of the way elijah was looking at you, like a prey.
Luckily freya announced that Cami had arrived and so all of you could move to the courtyard for the rest if the celebration, just before you and elijah had the chance to come up with an excuse to disappear.

You all exchanged kisses on the cheek and greetings, moving the party to the courtyard of the Abbatoir.
Klaus and Cami exchanged a quiet ‘hi’ and looks of endearment as you looked at them smirking proudly while sipping your wine, elijah eyed you knowing that you considered them ‘your little project for Klaus happiness’
‘thank you for helping freya’ said Klaus to Jackson giving him a glass of blood that he reluctantly accepted not daring to drink it
‘you look rather merry tonight nick’ said rebeakh ‘all that therapy must be paying of’ she said giving Camille a knowing look
‘oh no’ said klaus face dropping in annoyance as he eyed the bonfire behind rebekah
‘yah I know is not exactly a bonfire’ said Rebekah as elijah hided a smirk and Klaus rolled his eyes
‘can we skip it?’
‘I’m afraid no niklaus’ said elijah smiling seeing you and his sister so happy with the bonfire
‘come on it’s tradition’ Rebekah insisted
‘Bonfire time! yes Bex! We need to remind freya of the tradition’
‘tradition?’ asked Camille
Klaus turned to address her ‘we write our wishes and then burn them for luck’
‘sounds fun I’m in’ said hayely as with hope moved to the bonfire
‘before I need some more wine’ klaus replies raising his empty glass
‘okay fine, but you are not escaping’
You were now seated again on the sofa, you between Rebekah and elijah as you all laughed
‘so why does Klaus hates the bonfires so much?’ asks hayley
‘because he likes to kill the vibes constantly’ you answer as Klaus gives you a disappointed look as elijah tries to hide his smile
‘I find them a loss of time, but Rebekah as a child was obsessed with them, making also y/n fall under their spell’ explains Klaus ‘and every year they obliged me to participate. I understand that poor elijah can’t deny his wife, but why should I be put in the middle?’
‘klaus can’t just admit that they do work’ you said
‘Strangely I never recalled wishing for an infinite trial of enemies and yet year after year ‘ he said jokingly
‘come on. forever on santa naughty list’ said elijah rolling his eyes and drinking his wine as Klaus, you and Rebekah exchanged a wicked smirk
‘they work and we have here the living proof’ you say
‘and what is it?’ elijah asks you intrigued
‘well, as Klaus and Rebekah know when I was a little girl I had a crush on elijah. But he was older and always too busy playing with Klaus to notice me. The little girl his family had took in.’ you said telling freya and hayley as elijah smiled at your admission
‘ So even before I knew I loved him I just had you know those children crushes where you want to be noticed by the boy but the boy is too stubborn. Hence back when we were human I asked every year since I can recall for elijah to see me, and eventually he did. And well the rest is history.’ You said patting his leg
‘Therefore they work! And rather well I must add’ you add pleased of your point as the others listen
‘my dear wife are you saying I fell in love with you for a bonfire? That would be quite an insult towards yourself I’m afraid’ elijah says looking at you and putting down his glass of wine
You turn to him, ‘well I would say you fell for my charm and humor, but I believe that the magic of the bonfire helped’ you tell him smiling. For a moment the word disappear it was only you and elijah looking at each other eyes
‘I assure you’ he said getting closer to you and cupping your chin ‘the only magic thing is how astonishingly amazing youare’ he said giving you peck on the lips as you close your eyes complying to his sweet kiss
‘let’s burn some of these idiot wishes before these two become the only thing radiating heat in the room’ says Klaus standing as you and elijah break apart and stand too. the rest of the family giggling.
After you all burned your wishes the rest of the family went back to the sofa, leaving only the four original originals, eliajh, Klaus ,rebekah and you burning your last wishes. Rebekah in the middle between her brothers and you at elijah’s side dropped the papers in the fire in silence.
‘I wish that every day was like this one’ you said sadly as elijah looked at you a sad expression on his face
‘but instead our enemies always come for us’ added rebekah
‘we must protect what matters the most’ stressed Klaus with a sad tone
‘and try to find the happiness in what we have’ added elijah giving you a small smile
You all turned earing hope giggling seeing cami, hayley freya and jackson on the floor playing with the child and her new toys
‘it’s okay my wish already came true’ Rebekah said ‘ we have this moment’
she raised her hands for her bothers to take them as you took elijah’s . All squeezed each others hands looking at the fire thinking about the future and what it could hold
