“Come on, let me come.” Dana stood in front of the table, looking at Peter then the other ghostbusters, “Janine said the client described them as low level threat. I went toe toe with a demon god, need I remind you?”.
Ray couldn’t help but chuckle a bit at how adamant Dana was at coming along today. “Peter, you know how stubborn she is. What’s the harm in her coming if it’s just gonna be a small bust?” Ray asked, hoisting on his pack.
Before Peter could get a word out, Egon made his way past him, heading to the Ecto-1. “If she’s coming I suggest we hurry, this is a time sensitive job.” He hurried down the stairs, making his way to the Ecto-1 with Winston.
A sly smirk formed on Dana’s face, folding her arms over her chest, “That’s three out of four. I don’t even have to ask Winston to know he votes for me to come along.”. Not breaking eye contact with Peter, she picked up the additional proton pack and stole one of his suits from the lockers. “You coming, Venkman?” She shouted, heading down the stairs.
“Jesus, this woman is going to give me a heart attack.” He muttered, heading down the stairs.
All five of them piled into the Ecto-1, Winston driving them to the location. “So, any idea what it is? Class, that stuff? It’s got to be a class 2 or 3? Oh, what if it’s a class 4?” She asked.
Peter looked at her stunned, then at the others, “How much of this stuff did you teach her?”.
“I didn’t need anyone to teach me anything. It’s this wonderful thing called picking up a book.” Dana retorted. She’ll admit, she did have some interest in him but it was also so fun to mess with him. She wasn’t just some damsel or some airheaded lady. Dana wanted to contribute to the team. After fighting Gozer she had gotten a taste of it and man, she loved it.
The car stopped in front of a series of apartments, all five of them climbing out. “What’s the plan?” Dana asked, tying back her hair.
“We’ll split up. I’ll explore the second floor with Ms. Barrett, the three of you can sweep the first floor.” Egon explained. The man led the way, only to stop upon seeing the door shut. There was an immediate pause in his step, looking at it silently. Thankfully Ray had caught on quickly, going over to open up the door for them.
Even if Egon had been cagey as of late, they realized pretty fast that he had a thing against doors, dogs, and surprisingly armchairs.
All of them entered the home, Dana following after Egon as he headed upstairs. The scientist held the PKE meter in his hand firmly, checking around all angles for any sign of it. “I must admit, I’m quite excited to see this thing.” Dana said, looking around with him.
“Ms. Barrett, I’d refrain from getting excited if I were you. Ghosts can be unpredictable and hostile in most cases.” Egon said matter of factly, not looking up from the PKE meter.
Considering the situation he had been in only a few weeks ago, she understood why he was so apprehensive about ghosts.
Dana sighed aloud, holding the proton gun in her hands as they walked through the second floor. While Egon led the way, Dana stopped swearing she heard something. “Egon, wait I-” She stopped upon seeing he was already gone, making her groan, “Men.”. Shaking her head, Dana followed after the strange noise.
Of course, she wasn’t an idiot. She knew going into anywhere alone was study, but she had her finger on the trigger of the gun. Should something come out, Dana was ready.
Keeping a firm grip on the gun, Dana pushed open the door. Taking a curious peak in, Dana slowly walked into the room. Making sure not to make any loud noise, the woman slowly slinked her way further into the room. As she walked in, there was the sound of something moving behind her. Dana hastily turned around, proton gun drawn when she saw what it was.
“Well… aren’t you something special.” The woman knelt down, seeing the curious ghost make it’s way over to her. It had the traditional green glow and slime trails, but what really got her was the fact that the ghost was that of a pup. “What happened to you darling?” She asked, slowly reaching out her hand.
There was a small pause, but slowly the curious pup made it’s way over to her, sniffing at her hand. A whimsical laugh left the woman, feeling it’s cold nose almost touch her. It was as if she could actually feel it. “How did you end up here buddy?” She glanced around her surroundings.
Their client seemed pretty well off, living in this very stylized home. Definitely fancy for New York.
Not caring about how the ghost slime stained her gloves, she continued to stroke the pups face. This thing was so small, especially to what looked like it was supposed to be it’s breed. “Any way you can tell me what your story is?” Dana asked, chuckling as the curious ghost puppy climbed onto her lap. The puppy’s tail wagged, able to understand what she was saying almost. “Heh, yeah. Venkman was right not wanting me to come. Your so fearsome and scary aren’t-”
“AHHHHHHHHHHHH!” Dana and the pup both jumped up, looking down the hall. Dana quickly realized the scream came from Egon, making her quickly get up.
“Hang on, Spengler!” Keeping a firm grip on her weapon, Dana ran towards the scream. What she hadn’t noticed though was how the small ghost pup followed her.
Running through the hall, Dana made her way to where the scream came from. Bursting in the room, Dana saw Egon frozen stiff, looking like a deer in headlights. What separated them was a much bigger ghost dog, looking like the pup she had seen earlier. Egon was frozen in place, unable to look away from the beast in front of him.
“Hey!” Dana shouted, getting the dogs attention, “Oh shit.”.
The larger ghost dog growled, much bigger and meaner looked then the one she bonded with earlier. Dana went for her proton gun when she heard a small yip behind her. Before she could turn around, a small green blob charged forward, crashing into the bigger ghost. Dana’s hands dropped from the gun, looking as the ghost pup nuzzled against the bigger one. “This must be your mama.” She whispered, a small smile on her face.
Egon was still wedged in the corner, his skin as pale as snow as he looked at the two dogs. “Egon, it’s okay. They didn’t mean any harm. The mama couldn’t find her pup and the poor thing was worried.” She put away her gun, turning to the two ghosts, and as she stated they were much more relaxed.
Still Egon stayed in his corner, going for his gun but she stopped him. “We can’t trap them.” Dana stated, turning back to the dogs.
The woman gave a soft whistle, holding out her hand as she got down on her knees. The pup immediately looked over to her, walking up to her and she could tell Egon was trying to sink further into the corner. Albeit the mother was hesitant, she slowly came over as well. “See, they just wanted to find each other. They just needed a little love and care.” Scratching the mother ghost's chin, Dana stood, “We should let them live happily, together. They won't disturb anyone.”.
Egon still didn’t look convinced, but he took advantage of the fact that the dogs were docile and ran out of the room. Dana tsked watching him go, looking at the two ghost dogs, “Considering he turned into a dog, can’t blame him for being scared.”. Putting up a soft smile, Dana scratched the pup's chin, “No one’s going to disturb you. That much I can promise.”.
Explaining what happened to the others was pretty amusing, but Dana was proud of herself. She sat in her new apartment, smiling to herself thinking about how she had reunited them. It wasn’t as grand as fighting Gozer, but it was more important to her. Lifting her head up, Dana smiled at the photo of her and her mother. “You would’ve loved to be there tonight mom.” Dana stated.
As she reached for the light switch, Dana heard a sudden yip followed by a bark coming from her front door. The woman stopped in her tracks, a smile forming on her face.
The landlord did say this apartment did allow pets.
