Ray was too fucking old to feel this way, like he had some horrible shameful secret that everyone knew but he couldn’t talk about. Like he was some pitiable thing that was worth less than the rest of them for reasons he could never get fully out from under. Destined to be the silly, immature one nobody ever actually took seriously.
Ray spotted the back of Peter’s head in front of him, bobbing along like nothing had happened.
No– Ray decided, just no. Not anymore. He was too fucking old to keep letting people make him feel this way and get away with it.
He was a grown goddamn adult and he deserved better than to be Venkman’s punching bag. What made him think he could talk to him like that? Peter of all people, a guy who couldn’t get through more than five pathetic push-ups, who Ray could have begging on his hands and knees with nothing but a look–
It seemed like Peter had forgotten that fact. Ray would simply need to remind him just where they stood.
