Work Text:

Pandas were such sweet and cute animals. That was why Nahyuta has started to call Simon panda, not because he thought he was cute, but because of how sweet he was. Simon always put others first. He had almost given up his life to save people.

Butterflies were beautiful and delicate, but they could protect themselves. That was why Simon started to call Nahyuta butterfly. He didn't think that Nahyuta was beautiful. He was good-looking, but Simon would never fall in love with him.

Birds were sweet, cute, beautiful, delicate, and could defend themselves. They were as if you combined the traits of a butterfly with those of a panda. Simon had started to notice those butterfly-like traits appear in Taka. Were they going through some bird identity crisis?

Taka was getting frustrated with Simon. If only he could fully understand what they were trying to say. Maybe take things from Nahyuta. They hoped that would bring what feelings Simon had to the surface.

Simon was sitting at his desk when Taka hopped onto it; they had something in their mouth. Taka put it into his hand. It was one of Nahyuta's hair clips. "Taka, you took something? You've never done that before. If anyone, I thought you would have taken something from Gavin dono. He has lots of shiny things."

Shiny things were very tempting for Taka, but they had a mission. Their otousan had to get with the butterfly man. Taka squawked as Simon took it back to its owner.

Maybe they should steal something of Simon's and give it to Nahyuta. Then maybe Nahyuta would catch on. He was good at understanding what animals were trying to say through their actions.

Taka waited as Simon filled out his paperwork. If they wanted to get away with stealing, they had to be sneaky.

Simon got up for his usual 2:30 coffee. That was Taka's chance. They grabbed a spare earring from the little stand that Simon had kept on his desk and quickly made their way out of the window.

They got to Nahyuta's office and pecked on the glass. Nahyuta looked over; was that Taka?

He opened the window and let them in. "Hello, I doubt you're lost, so what business do you have here?"

Taka placed the spare earing into Nahyuta's hand. "Is this pandas? Taka, I have a feeling there's something you're trying to say." They let out a happy noise.

Nahyuta laughed. "Such a smart creature. How about this, I bring the earing back, and I ask your father out." That seemed to satisfy the bird.

Taka got on Nahyuta's shoulder, much to his surprise. "Well, that's... new?" He laughed and headed down the hall.

They stopped Nahyuta once they got to Simon's office. "I hope he isn't too mad at you. It's one of the ways that you communicate."

He opened the door. "Panda, I'd like to return your bird child and an earing." Simon sighed as he took the earring back and tried to get Taka to get off of Nahyuta's shoulder.

"Taka, be a good child and come back here." Taka fluffed their feathers and put a foot on one of Simon's hands and put their other one on one of Nahyuta's hands.

Simon laughed. "Oh, Taka, you were trying to get us to realize how we felt. What a smart child."

Taka chirped and nudged Nahyuta. "Oh right, I have to hold up my end of the deal. Would you go out with me?"

Simon nodded, then looked confused and laughed. "Wait, did you get forced into making a deal with my child?"

Nahyuta scowled. "Yes, I did. Now, ignore that part."

Simon tried to stop laughing, but he just couldn't. "Of course, I'll go out with you."

Nahyuta smiled. "Good. I'll back you up at 9." He left Simon alone with Taka.

Taka shook their head. They had such a weird parent and soon-to-be parent.
