Work Text:
A door suddenly opened with a quiet creak, shedding some light to almost a pitch-black room. A tiny alarm clock was showing '3:47 AM' in little but bright red lights.
"Hey, you're still up?"
A young man, who was sitting at his desk and tinkering in the middle of the big sea of evenly sorted electronic parts and devices, turned to the door. He saw a familiar face - a blue-haired person standing in the way of the light coming from the other side of the door.
"Makoto, I told you I'm going to work on this project tonight." He yawned, fixing his glasses, face half-hidden behind his blonde hair. Dark eyebags contrasted his pale, slender face, reflecting the scientist's determination on the work he was in the middle of. He noticed a steaming mug of coffee in Makoto's hand, who approached him and put it down on his desk.
"You tell me that every day, Kusuke. You know how I feel about you staying up this late." Makoto leaned forward and gave him a gentle kiss on the head. "We moved in together long ago and I've never seen you wake up next to me." This self-destructing habit was nothing new to Makoto, who's been supportive of him and what he created, but despised how awful he always ended up looking after his restless nights.
Kusuke glanced at the project he was working on and sighed. He wasn't used to hearing his boyfriend getting mad about his awful sleep schedule. Makoto was barely ever angry at him despite his bad temper and overprotectiveness. He was fine with the amount of sleep he had, there was no need for Makoto to hate it that much. "I'm okay, Makoto." He took off his glasses and put them next to his mug of fresh coffee. "I'm doing just fine with my 20-minute naps."
"No, you're not. You're overworking yourself and I can't stand this anymore." Almost frustrated, Makoto looked at the project laying on the desk. His eyebrows twitched a little and he bit his teeth. "Kusuke, I swear to God, if this is some new machine for your brother-"
"This is not for Kusuo." He interrupted. "Calm down. I already gave up on competing with him, we talked about this…" He got up from the chair with a little creak and stood face to face with the cobalt-haired man.
"Is this for your work then? I don't know what that's even supposed to be." Makoto got a weak nod in response, to which he sighed. "Do you have time to finish this?"
"Yeah, I'm not rushing with that one." He looked at the mug, hoping Makoto would go away already. His mind was focused on the project only. All he wanted at this moment was to make sure he did everything correctly since the last test run of the machine.
"Alright, that's it. You're going with me then." With no time to react, Kusuke was quickly grabbed by his waist and legs, instantly lifted in the air. Makoto was in a much better physical shape than the sleep-deprived scientist, so picking him up just like that was no issue for him. His acting career required him to be in the best condition possible to keep his reputation as a star beloved by millions of fans.
Kusuke began to struggle his way out of Makoto's firm grip. "Makoto! What are you doing?!" His weak attempts were nothing to Makoto's strength he worked on every morning.
"It's almost 4 AM. You'll work on that tomorrow." He turned around with Kusuke in his arms and went to leave the room with him. "Don't worry about the coffee, I'll make you a new one for breakfast."
Kusuke finally gave up. Defeated, he wrapped his arms around Makoto's neck and rested his head on his shoulder. "You're awful, you know?" Kusuke said in a light-hearted tone.
"I love you too." The room went pitch black again when Makoto left the room with his boyfriend in his arms, closing the door behind them.
Subtle light illuminated through the windows of a dark corridor. The dead silence stopped when Makoto's careful steps echoed through the hallway. Cautiously carrying Kusuke to their bedroom, he made sure to not drop him. His own exhaustion after a long day of his usual interviews made it a much harder job than he expected.
When they've finally arrived, Makoto opened their bedroom door, carefully putting Kusuke down back on his feet. They walked inside together and Kusuke dropped onto the bed as soon as he reached it. He barely cared about the interrupted experiment anymore.
Makoto sat next to the blonde, looking around the room filled with scripts, costumes and props he was working with the day before but didn't have the time to clean up. This bedroom became some sort of a studio for him, where he let himself improve his acting outside his work. Kusuke was bothered by his boyfriend's mess, but he didn't tell him about it, knowing well he doesn't spend as much time here as Makoto does. He liked watching him act sometimes, helping him memorize his lines for the dramas and movies he's played in. It made him happy, knowing how passionate Makoto is about his job, just like he was.
Kusuke hid under the blanket, covering himself from neck to toe. What did he do to deserve someone to care for him this much? He couldn't do anything but smile, when he observed Makoto switching on a little lamp next to their bed.
Makoto was like his own light, a light that shined bright, no matter what happened. His charm didn't work on him though. Makoto was like any other regular person to him, but it didn't stop Kusuke from falling for this dumb, pretty guy.
When Makoto finally joined Kusuke under the sheets after what felt like an eternity to him, he didn't waste much time and pulled Kusuke closer, embracing him in a warm hug. They could feel each other's comforting warmth, the same warmth they both desperately desired.
"Are you mad at me?" Makoto asked, feeling guilty for letting his emotions take over once again.
"No, I don't think so. I'll work on it tomorrow." Even if Kusuke didn't fully understand Makoto's way of caring for him, he couldn't be mad. It was okay to let him do whatever he wanted sometimes. "But in return, you're cleaning all of that mess."
Idol's slender fingers brushed through his hair, exposing his other eye. "Alright, I'll do it after I come back home tomorrow." Suddenly, he leaned in and gave Kusuke a sweet, gentle kiss. Kusuke returned the kiss, grabbing him by the collar of Makoto's shirt with little to no force.
Kusuke loved the feeling of being cared for, being embraced. Makoto never hesitated to give him what he needed, despite Kusuke never asking for it. They understood each other more than anyone else.
Makoto held him close, hugging him tight as if there was something he needed to protect him from. Kusuke put his arms around his boyfriend's waist. Many would pay millions to even be able to see the famous Mugami Tooru with their own eyes, but not Kusuke. He had him all for himself. Having his neck slowly kissed by the actor's soft lips, he blushed a bit.
"Hey, Makoto. Are we going to sleep or not?" He chuckled as soon as he noticed Makoto instantly pulling away from his neck. He didn't want to stop. The sweet taste of Kusuke skin hypnotized him, never wanting to let go.
"Oh, yeah." There was always another time for this, he couldn't forget about his mission. "Can I hold you like this… if you don't mind?" His puppy eyes shined a little and Kusuke rolled his eyes, ending up on a little nod.
When Makoto was about to hug him again, Kusuke quickly stopped him, making Makoto lay on his back with a gentle push. He got up and put his arm around the idol's waist before carefully resting his head against his chest. He could hear Makoto's heartbeat change, his blood rushing through his veins at a higher tempo. Kusuke enjoyed embarrassing him, making him feel emotions no one else could make him feel.
"You're adorable, Makoto." He carefully rubbed his cheek against Makoto's beating heart, listening to the calming sound coming from his chest.
"Stop it…" Makoto's hand rested on Kusuke's soft, blonde hair. He felt something hidden behind the strands of hair - a hairband. Kusuke liked having his hair held in a ponytail when he worked. It was much more convenient for him, even if half of his face is covered by his bangs anyways. Makoto let himself play with the ponytail for a moment before carefully removing the headband and putting it away next to his telepathy canceller. He slowly reached his boyfriend's head with his own and kissed it gently, Kusuke's hair tickling him on the nose. "Sweet dreams~"
"Goodnigh..." He instantly fell asleep before he even could finish speaking. The warmth and care provided by Makoto were enough to make him lose his urge to stay awake. The mad scientist, the brilliant inventor, and genius of 218 IQ was now sleeping peacefully, like a baby, in the actor's arms. The adorable sight of this man, who's capable of creating dangerous weapons with an innocent look on his face, was now completely harmless, quietly breathing against his chest.
Makoto's eyes closed, letting this sweet memory engrave itself in his mind as he began to fall asleep.
When Kusuke suddenly woke up to the cheerful melody of Makoto's ringtone. He turned the alarm off after letting the "Jajauma Hurricane Girl" song play for a short minute.
Kusuke looked around, not giving himself enough time to realize how much time he's spent in this bed. He hasn't slept this well since he was a child. Feeling like it's been forever since he's last heard Makoto's voice, he checked again. Makoto was nowhere to be found. 'Maybe he's at work already or he's trying to surprise me.' Kusuke thought to himself, but in fact, he already knew exactly where he was right away.
Not wasting anymore time, Kusuke got up, quickly tidied the bed, and went downstairs. He made sure to leave the bedroom in the cleanest state he could, even if all of Makoto's things were still in his way. He didn't bother moving any of it, since Makoto promised to clean it himself.
A familiar song and the sound of a frying pan was coming from the kitchen. The smell of sweet pancakes lured the now fully awoken man to the door. Their house wasn't the biggest or the fanciest, even if the couple living in it was quite rich. They preferred to keep it average-sized, only agreeing to let Kusuke go crazy with the size of his underground lab. It was enough for them.
When he walked in, Makoto was standing near the frying pan, turning the half-ready pancake on its other side, singing a theme song from the Silent Cyborg movie - the same movie he finished recording just a few weeks ago. Even after ending the production, Makoto, who played the main character, couldn't get rid of all of his lines and song lyrics out of his head. Dressed in a cute, green apron, he noticed Kusuke, standing in the entrance and greeted him with a warm and happy smile. "Good morning, Kusuke. How was your sleep?"
"It was fine." Kusuke reassured him before quickly walking up to him and wrapping his long arms around his waist, putting them between the man and the apron.
"Your breakfast is over there, Kusuke." He said, pointing to the table with his head. Instead, Kusuke held him closer. "Didn't you get enough cuddling last night?" Makoto laughed and quickly moved the cinnamon brown pancake from the pan, carefully landing them on a clean white plate.
Giggling, Kusuke finally let him go and took a step away. "Of course I did." He sat at the table in front of his plate. He continued to observe as Makoto took off his apron, hung it on the wall, and grabbed his plate.
A machine alerted the man with a loud beep, letting him know the coffee he was preparing was done. Makoto grabbed the steaming mug and brought it along with his food to the table. Their eyes met when he handed Kusuke his coffee. "See? I told you I was going to make you a new one."
Kusuke took a sip of his coffee and smiled. "This time, I’ll try to finish working earlier. Just for you."
Makoto's charm didn't work on him.
At least that's what he thought.
