Summary
Brew did not see a point of putting much effort into these friendships if it will only end within the confines of time itself. Time erodes friendships, and erodes even the memories that once kept them alive, decaying the warmth bonds carried—a slow, painstakingly agonizing concept once he realizes of it.
He found himself fearing permanence less than impermanence itself. There was something deeply unsettling about how easily laughter once shared so effortlessly could someday become nothing more than a faint echo in the back of one’s mind. Even the most cherished moments that were not spared from the gears of time, as it would be consumed slowly until but shattered fragments.
Perhaps that was why Brew began locking himself alone before anyone else could leave him first.Yet despite that, there were still people who lingered.

He slid his hands to either side of the plate and lifted it carefully, a soft smile settling on his face. The candlelight flickered gently as he began to hum, then sing, the familiar tune, his voice low and unhurried.
“Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you,”
"Happy birthday my dearest, happy birthday to you."
—You didn't care about your birthday anymore. After all, what was the point of celebrating it when you're trapped in this library? You planned on spending the entire day up to nothing, doing your routine, and hoped your co-workers wouldn't notice.
That is, except for Chesed, of course.

Chesed's yearning gets the best of him, and it scares him.
With a slip of his tongue, he blurted, “...You really have no idea what you do to people, do you? To me?”
A beat passes, and his eyes momentarily widen in shock with his heart sinking in his shoes. His hands that were occupied with brewing coffee froze, and his line of thoughts silenced itself.
“...What?” You croaked, stopping halfway in sipping your coffee.
