Work Text:
It was another night on the SMP, everything was quiet. The only time anyone on the server could truly have peace and quiet. But not Tommy, he couldn't sleep, he shut his eyes so many times hoping sleep would come, but it never did. His thoughts would always wander and just make things worse.
So many nights were like this, he just wanted to feel safe again, to be able to sleep in his own bed without feeling like everything is out to get him. On nights like these he would wander the SMP hoping it would clear his head at least somewhat. He shifted in his bed, slowly sitting up and turning to have his legs hang off the side. He sat there a moment, breathing in softly, he looked at Shroud who was sleeping peacefully. If only he could sleep like that too, he thought to himself as he got up and pat Shroud on their head.
He headed for the door, closing it behind him. As he stepped outside he took in the SMP, breathing in and letting out a sigh, if only it was like this all the time. Only the sounds of bugs and animals ringing through the night. He looked at the night sky, taking it all in. He soon headed down the Prime Path, feeling himself be drawn in the direction of his old hotel. He looked up at it, he missed the time he spent with Sam Nook, he missed working with Jack, even if he did take over his hotel after he died. He missed when things were simple, but nothing could ever remain simple on this server.
He didn't want to think about it. He went on this walk to calm his mind, not make it worse for gods sake. He walked past the hotel, and decided to walk along the beach past the outpost he had made. He glanced at the outpost but he thought it best to move past it. No need to visit those memories again.
He walked along the shoreline, kicking rocks as he went. He simply stared at the ground and water, letting himself be guided by the shore. After walking for who knows how long, he finally looks up. He takes a second to come out of his daze and realizes that he isn't that far from Snowchester. He's too tired to head back home now, but he doesn't want to bother Tubbo and Ranboo.
He sighs as he walks towards Snowchester. Looking up at the mansion, he breathes in, the size of it always intimidates him. He stood there a few seconds debating with himself, he didn't want to wake them up but he was already here so he should probably just knock already. He breathes in knocking on the door a few times.
1… 2… 3…
He doesn't hear anything on the other side of the door. Maybe he should just go home, it'd be easier. Maybe they didn't want to see him. No, he probably just didn’t knock hard enough. He breathes in again and starts to knock harder on the door.
After banging on the door for who knows how long, he hears footsteps on the other side. The person on the other side opens the door hesitantly.
"Oh it's just you," Ranboo said with a sigh of relief.
"What's that supposed to mean?" Tommy said with mock offense.
"You were banging on the door so hard I was worried someone was trying to break in, why'd you come here so late anyways," Ranboo said. He looked very tired and now Tommy was starting to feel bad.
"Well, um-"
"Ah! Wait you should come inside first," Ranboo says, interrupting Tommy's negative train of thought. Ranboo moves to the side to let Tommy in.
Ranboo sits on a couch in a little living room area. He pats the spot next to him gesturing for Tommy to sit down. He follows, plopping down next to Ranboo.
"So, why'd you come here so late?" Ranboo repeats, looking over at Tommy.
"Couldn't sleep," Tommy says, fiddling with one of the throw pillows. He's looking down, he still kind of feels bad for waking Ranboo up so late, he won't admit it though.
"Well, are you ready to sleep now?" Ranboo says.
Tommy only nods. And with that Ranboo gets up and offers Tommy his hand. Tommy stares for a moment but then takes it. Ranboo leads him up the stairs.
"We've got some spare pajamas and a guest room you can use," Ranboo says as they begin to head down a hallway.
"No!" Tommy says, he then starts to blush out of embarrassment realizing how loud he was. Ranboo stops and just looks at him confused.
"I mean… uh… can- can I sleep with you and Tubbo," Tommy says looking down now, fiddling with his fingers after letting go of Ranboo's hand.
"Aww, of course Tommy," Ranboo says with a soft smile on his face.
Tommy looks up somewhat surprised. It's not that he hasn't spent the night with Ranboo and Tubbo before, it's just been awhile. He didn't want to intrude. Ranboo takes his hand again, the nagging feeling at the back of Tommy’s head washing away as they head for the bedroom.
Tommy stands by the door while Ranboo goes to get some pajamas for him. He thinks to himself a bit while waiting, he sighs, sometimes he forgets how much the two care about him.
It didn't take long for Ranboo to come back, pajamas in hand for Tommy. He takes them and heads for the bathroom to change.
"I'll be waiting in the bedroom, you can put your clothes on the dresser when you come back," Ranboo says, opening the door to the bedroom.
After Tommy gets changed he goes into the bedroom and sees Ranboo sitting on the bed waiting for him. He climbs on to sleep between the two. Ranboo huffs softly, smiling. He lays down and wraps an arm around Tommy. He can hear the two on his sides softly breathing. He's here, with his friends who care so much about him. He'll be fine. He's safe and loved. He'll be fine. He closes his tired eyes, sleep eventually taking him.
