In the past few weeks, Jisung had sent in his application to be a knight. Ever since he was young, he had looked up to the royal guard that stood keeping a watchful eye over the castle. He wanted so desperately to be one of them, so when he saw flyers in the town square, he immediately wrote to them providing his information and why he wanted to be one of them.
There had seemed to be nothing stopping him from becoming a knight, until he remembered Chenle.
Zhong Chenle was the prince of China. The two had been best friends since birth and Jisung knew that Chenle wouldn’t stand behind his choice to become a part of the royal guard. Chenle cared deeply about Jisung’s safety and always wanted to be by the boy’s side.
Jisung thought had other plans. The young boy wanted to learn how he could protect Chenle if anything ever happened to his best friend.
There was a knock on his door, “Jisung,” the sweet voice of Chenle called as he opened the door, “there is a letter here for you,” the prince sang jokingly.
Jisung looked up from the book that he was indulging himself in to see Chenle waving the letter above his head. When the boy went to reach for it, Chenle pulled the letter out of Jisung’s reach.
“Hey!” Jisung shouted playfully, “Come back here Shorty!”
Chenle giggled before running out of the room. With a roll of his eyes, Jisung followed the prince to play keep-away with him.
Jisung ran through the hallways of the large castle, following the angelic noise of the prince’s laughter, “Chenle,” he yelled, “I’m going to find you!”
There was another giggle. The tall boy bolted towards it.
When Jisung entered the room, he found that it was one of the studies that the two would do their schooling in when they were younger. The emerald green cushions and wooden bookcases brought back so many memories of times gone by.
Chenle was standing in the middle of the room when Jisung heard a ripping sound.
“Lele!” Jisung yelled and ran over to his best friend, “That’s mine!”
Jisung wasn’t fast enough though, his best friend had unfolded the letter and started to read the letter out loud, “Dear Park Jisung,” he started with the cheerfulness still in his voice, “We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted…” the boy’s words became slowed as he looked up at Jisung, “Into the Royal Guard.”
There was only silence that followed as Chenle started at Jisung. The younger was looking guiltily at the ground, knowing that the prince’s reaction wouldn’t be good.
“Jisung?” the prince said, bringing the taller boy’s attention back to Chenle, “Why didn’t you tell me that you applied?” The prince’s voice was soft in a way Jisung was not expecting.
“I–” Jisung started, “I thought that you would be angry with me because you always make such a big fuss whenever I get injured,” the younger boy looked down at his shoes once again.
“I just want to make sure you’re okay,” Chenle put his hand on the taller boy’s shoulder, “I love you dearly and I just don’t want to lose you,” the prince placed a soft kiss on Jisung’s cheek.
Jisung’s eyes darted back up to Chenle, with a slight blush adorning his cheeks, “So you would support me if I became a knight”:
“Of course,” Chenle smiled brightly, “As long as I am allowed to watch you train.”
“You’re the prince Lele,” Jisung rolled his eyes, “You can do whatever you want.”
