Work Text:
It is going to be a bad day, was the first thing Scar noticed when getting up. His lungs were stiff, and it was hard to breath. His prosthetic legs were painful, more than usual, so to start the day, four out of ten.
He tried to push himself up, to get the day going, but he just fell back down, to weak to do anything. So he sat there, no Jellie in sight, wondering what she was going to do.
He heard the sound of a door creaking open, and he looked over to where the noise came from. In came his precious, adorable kitty, who could always cheer him up. So, the day had increased to a five with the help of Jellie. He sat there, stroking her fur after she came up and laid on his stomach. He scratched behind her ears, and listened to the sound of her purring.
His breathing was only getting more difficult. How come Cub isn’t here? He usually checks up on me in the mornings, even without the Convex from last season. He looked over at the clock. Well, no wonder he wasn’t here, it’s five in the morning. No one should be up at such an ungodly hour, not even the wizard that he was.
He could feel himself deflate. It was five in the morning, he didn’t have oxygen, and he couldn’t get up to get any. Well, maybe I could try seeing if anyone is awake and could help me, he thought.
He reached his hand over to his nightstand, gently picking up his communicator, which took way too much effort in his opinion.
GoodTimesWithScar whispers to Cubfan 135 - Are you awake?
He set the communicator down, simply snuggling up to his sleepy cat. He checked it, no answer. So he was bedridden, couldn’t get up to get oxygen, and Cub wasn’t awake or wouldn’t answer, fantastic! He checked the clock, and only two minutes had passed since the last time he checked.
Next he tried Grian, hoping the troublemaker would be awake at this hour.
GoodTimesWithScar whispers to Grian - Hello!
When a minute passed and he had no response, he moved onto Xisuma. He knew he would suffocate if he couldn’t get anyone in the next ten minutes. He tried to sit up again, and no luck. It seemed the time spent without oxygen had made his body even more weak and less responsive.
GoodTimesWithScar whispers to Xisumavoid - Are you there?
He knew how bad the admins sleep schedule was, and he hated bothering him, but he knew he would be a good help, and probably awake. He started to panic after getting no response for another minute. It has been four more minutes, and Scar’s lungs were already getting worse. Back down to a four.
He didn’t know if he would be able to respawn from something like this. It wasn’t a game-caused death, like crashing with an elytra or burning in lava. It had to do with his person, and it had never happened to him before. Usually, he was careful and always managed to have extra oxygen close to his bed, in case he needed it, but it seemed he had forgotten.
Is this how I die? Really? After all the things I’ve done, a genetic disorder? I’ve been so careful, I’ve done everything right. Jellie seemed to notice the change in mood, going from calm, to mildly/very panicked. She moved her head up, and Scar saw the movement, tears in the corners of his eyes.
“Jellie, I don’t wanna go. I can’t leave you here, I can’t leave the hermits, I haven’t finished everything I wanted to do. I wanted to help others like me.” He paused, having to catch his breathe between the crying and lungs that didn’t seem to work. Two more minutes had passed.
“I wanted to help people live out the life they could have had, even if I wasn’t able to find a cure, but to find a way to make it easier and better to live with.” He had to message everyone to help, or at least send his goodbyes. The oxygen deprivation slowly making his vision darken, and Jellie meowing at him, trying to stop him from sleeping, didn’t help him. At least he was reminded the Jellie would be with him in his dying hours.
GoodTimesWithScar to Global - Hey guys!
He waited for a minute, just to make sure no one was up. No one was, at least, they hadn’t responded. He had about one minute left, might as well make it count.
GoodTimesWithScar to Global -
I just want everyone to know that I love you all so much! You have made my life one of the best, no matter how much I had to struggle through it. I appreciate all that you have done for me, and you guys couldn’t have don’t any better. I love you guys, take care! <3
He sent it. This was alright. He could already see the light in the distance, as Jellie’s noises started to fade, his vision started to fade. He heard a ping come from his communicator.
Cubfan135 to Global - I love you too man. Are you okay?
He didn’t have the energy to respond. He just looked up and saw the calming light. He leaned into it, and everything faded.

He had respawned. Miraculously, in terrible pain. He couldn’t hold it in. Sitting at spawn, headache blasting, lungs refusing, unable to sit up. It was too much. He screamed. He screamed until he felt that if he screamed anymore. It would cause him to respawn. His vision had darkened again. He saw people running towards him, but it was too late.

He respawned again. He couldn’t feel anything. The world was numb. He could see fuzzy outlines of shapes that appeared to be moving. He could feel a liquid running down his chin. Then, he felt the nicest thing in the world.
Sweet tasting, pure, oxygen going into his lungs speeding up his heart. His vision slowly came back into focus. Around him were two people, Cub and Grian. He could see Xisumavoid running in the distance, towards him or away from him he couldn’t tell. His hearing slowly came back to him. Cub. Cub was talking to him.
“Scar, stay with me here buddy, we need you. Can you hear me, Scar? Grian, what are we going to do. He seems unresponsive and that’s not a good thing.”
“Let him come back to his senses a little bit. It might take a while, Cub. It’s not immediate.”
“I know, I just wish I saw that message he sent me. I should have see it. I should have helped. None of this should have happened it j and just payed attention!”
“Cub, it’s not your fault. You know that. Just help get him back, and it’ll be all fine.”
Scar slowly moved his arms, trying to lift himself up. He still couldn’t, the respawning not helping that fact. He felt more drained than he had before sleeping, and he had been doing quite a bit the day before. Thankfully, though, the small and pitiful movements had showed the other two men that he was alive, and they instantly hugged him from where they were sitting on the ground.
“Hi guys,” Scar had said after they finished trying to suffocate him again. His voice was still coarse, especially from all the screaming and almost a whisper.
“Hey Scar, I am sorry for not noticing your message. This is all my fault, it I was just paying attention then-“ Cub was cut off.
“Shhh,” Scar whispered. “It’s not either of your guys’ fault. I should’ve been prepared. Now, quit crying over me and fetch me my cat, for I am ill without the love of my cat!”
As if on que, Jellie walked over and sat on her owners stomach. Life was ok now. Grian was unnaturally quite through the whole thing.
“Grian, are you ok?” Scar asked.
“I’m… ok. I’m was just really worried about you. I don’t I’ve ever been this scared for someone’s life before. I didn’t know what would happen, and even the death message appeared glitched, so I was worried you weren’t going to respawn.”
“We’ll, I’m still here. Now sit here with me until my body decides that working is something it wants to do.”
And it was nice. Six in the morning. GoodTimesWithScar laying with his head on Cubs lap, his cat draped over him, and Grian laying against Cub, for both moral and physical support.
Then Xisuma ran over, a lot of healing and regeneration potions, and a basket full of cookies. He sat down and handed a few potions to Scar, and then relaxed into the pile, laying down into he grass next to Scar, but being careful not to touch anyone. He laid out the basket of cookies for everyone to take. Everyone took one, but they all quickly fell asleep.
It was peaceful, even after the horrifying night where one million and one things could have gone wrong. They stayed there until until the sun was high in the sky, and then some. No one questioned it, thankfully. Ok, they kind of questioned it, but based on the message they had seen, they could only asume something terrible had happened. They would know later if anyone told to tell them.
And so they laid there, not a care in the world, Sleeping under the afternoon sun. So, everything considered, today would probably be a seven.
