Chapter Text
"Here's the thing, if we start pouring more of our funding into radio and billboard advertisements, we'll defiantly start getting more test applicants." Bespectacled Worker starts.
"Yeah sure, more heroes is good. But they'll most likely not be strong enough to handle anything over a demon level threat! We'll just be getting a bunch of C-classers who can't do anything!" A new man butts in. "If they even pass the test at all!"
"That's better than nothing thought!" The only woman in the room speaks up. Amai mentally adds fixing that to his to-do list. It's the only productive thought he's had since this meeting started what feels like forever ago. They've had this exact conversation at least six times this past week, and made exactly zero progress. His eye starts to twitch as another man suggests making the new heroes take training classes, and he has to start taking a quiet deep breaths when they started discussing putting cameras in hero's houses. He needs a distraction before he murders one of these losers. So, he does something that would get any of them fired.
He quietly slips his hand into the pocket of his dark blue jeans, (tailored to his shape, of course) eyes darting to make sure they're still bickering.
"Gilbert, I understand where you're coming from with this issue, but we cannot just randomly start recruiting people. As much as I think we should all be fighting for peace and justice, we cannot force someone to take a position in our rankings. That is against the law." Amai's statement is met with hums of agreement as Gilbert looks away and sits lower into his seat.
He keys in without looking, and clicks his top conversation, simply labeled "Z".
"Having an awful day. Meetings." He doesn't want to upset him, though. Texts with guys you've made out with at least twice are like sundaes, you always need to add something nice on top.
"What do you want for Christmas?"
The dancing dots pop up immediately. He must be bored too.
"your asking me what I want?"
"ok"
Amai scoffs, resisting the urge to correct his grammar. That would upset the good/bad balance. The three little dots taunt him too much with a break from this God forsaken meeting, so he puts his phone back on his thigh with a sigh. Can't wait too long, they might get suspicions.
"As you can see, TV ads have only brought in 20% of donations,"
He takes that as his queue to quickly zone back out again, wondering when these fools switched topics, until he feels that familiar vibration on his thigh.
"you underneath my tree tied up in ribbons and tinsel with a pretty little bow on your head and that filthy little mouth of yours open and waiting for me" The heat blasts into Amai's cheeks as he thickly swallows. His eyes scan over the message again, making sure that's what he's seeing, because there was a least a twitch in his pants. And now he's blushing, full face blushing, at the most poorly worded message he's ever received, in a meeting room full of his employees.
He's going to kill him.
He sucks in quick breath of composure to gather the strength to glance at the man next to him. His nose is in his notepad. He doesn't really seem to care about what Amai's doing, he's just making sure everything is in order. He's the only one doing his job. Good.
No one hold a candle to him here in terms of power. No one world dare questions Amai Mask, that could result in a termination of their employment.
"Sir-If I may ask?" He looks up.
It's the notetaker.
"Yes?" If he looked closely, he could see a faint red intertwined in his irises.
"A-are you okay? Y-y-you look just a little bit angry. Was something we were discussing upsetting you or do you have something to add or?"
"No no, it's fine." The nervous babbling ends, and all eyes are on him.
"I know this was an earlier comment but I should address it anyway. I feel very uneasy with the idea putting private cameras in hero's homes. As pro heroes, we are always on call, and we don't get a lot of time to," Put on a show, just like always. "destress. Our every move on the street is already scrutinized by the public and the association. Nobody wants a phone call from their job saying they aren't doing enough work at home, they won't want to work here anymore! Plus, what if that footage were to get leaked? What if we were hacked? That could provide some serious weaknesses to our enemies, like a family a hero is trying to keep quiet. We don't want another child being used as ransom, look what happened last time! Adding to that burden will only weaken job performance. Besides, we wouldn't get info on training, we would just be prying into our heroes' homes life. Every hero has their own method of unwinding after a hard day, and they should get to do that in peace." He says, picking his head up to acknowledge the worried faces.
"Yeah sir, you're right." The woman speaks up again, to receive a cacophony of agreement.
"Yeah, I'm sorry for even suggesting that. I didn't mean to make you worry." The bozo towards the head of the table does the exact same shameful nod and glance as the last guy he called out. Typical.
"Don't worry about it. We've all been working very hard. Let's end early, and use this time to reflect on these important issues." Amai feel his heart slow down as everyone gathers up their things and says their goodbyes. He smiles and gives pleasant waves. As soon as all of them are gone, he pulls his phone right out.
"or a watch whatevers easier"
"a nice one"
Amai scoffs and rolls his eyes.
"You're getting a watch and grammar lessons"
