Work Text:
Aomine Daiki has been regularly visiting this coffee shop for a month now. Sure, the coffee they serve is really good, but the main reason why Aomine keeps coming back here is for the cute, baby-blue haired barista. The very first time Aomine met this guy, Satsuki, later in their class, told him that Aomine had a ridiculously happy face for an early morning class, and that was really uncharacteristic of him. After denying to her that he didn't have any ridiculously happy face (though, he actually might have), Aomine told her that he had met a cute barista when he bought his morning coffee earlier. Satsuki suggested that he should try his luck to ask for the barista's number. And, here he is; Aomine is finally going to do it a month later, not because he didn't want to do this earlier, but he just wanted Kuroko Tetsuya, the barista's name that he has learnt on the very first day they met from Kuroko's name tag, to become, at least, familiar with him first (will he?).
He takes a deep breath and proceeds to open the door of the coffee shop with confidence. He starts standing in the line, waiting for his turn to make his order. Kuroko is there, as usual, talking to a customer with a small smile plastered on his face. It doesn't take long for the person in front of him to finally step aside and leave with a hot drink in hand. Aomine steps forward and gives Kuroko a grin when the latter notices him. "I will get my usual," he says confidently, still with a grin on his face.
Kuroko stays silent for a few seconds before replying, "Um… sorry, what do you mean?"
Kuroko’s confusion made Aomine feel extremely embarrassed, maybe even the most embarrassed he has ever felt in his life. He had thought that after a month of frequenting this coffee shop, Kuroko would remember his order, but no. Of course he wouldn't. How many customers, other than him, did he think come to this place everyday? He feels really stupid for thinking Kuroko would remember him.
"Sir?" Kuroko's soft voice breaks his reverie as Aomine tries to regain his composure. Alright, act normal, he says to himself, Kuroko's number can wait. Maybe. If he even has the face to ask for it, after such an embarrassing moment has happened.
"Sorry, I'll have a Cappuccino, please," he finally says with an apologetic smile.
Kuroko raises his eyebrows before eventually giving Aomine a small nod.
Aomine can't bring himself to look at Kuroko's face so he decides to busy himself with his phone for a few minutes of waiting. He's glad that he doesn't have to wait that long for the drink he ordered to be finished. Or, drinks? Why are there two cups of coffee there?
"Here are your orders, Sir, these would be 400 yen," Kuroko says. And Aomine didn’t hear it wrong, Kuroko clearly said orders, in plural.
"I'm sorry, I think I clearly said that I would have a Cappuccino, but why are there two cups here?"
"The Americano is on the house. That's your usual order, right?" Kuroko replies to him with a smile.
Aomine’s eyes widen in surprise as he proceeds to shout, "You actually remembered!" He realizes afterwards that he might have said that too loud. Aomine quickly grabs his wallet from his pants so he can just pay and leave, because he has had enough of embarrassment for today and it's only 8 in the morning, for god's sake.
Kuroko lets out a small chuckle. "Yes, I did. Sorry, I was just teasing you earlier, that's why the Americano is on the house."
"You cheeky," Aomine says whilst handing Kuroko the money for the drink. When he sees Kuroko looking so cheerful like this, however, he immediately remembers his plan to ask for Kuroko’s number. He coughs and proceeds to try his luck and says, "But, um, you know—"
"My number? I have already written it on one of your cups."
"How did you—?"
"Sorry, Aomine-kun, as much as I want to continue talking to you, maybe we can talk properly later? There are people behind you," Kuroko says as he points out the people in line behind Aomine.
Aomine glances back and realizes that he probably has been spending too much time ordering just one cup of coffee. Of course, he, of all people, doesn't want Kuroko to be in trouble for making the other customers mad. He has to be content with what he has accomplished this morning, which can’t be considered bad at all, barring a few embarrassments here and there. He gets Kuroko to call him by his name and Kuroko also said that they could talk later. And more importantly, he finally gets Kuroko’s number, as it was the main objective for the day. He quickly grabs his drinks and says, "You're right, we really should talk properly later. I will text you ASAP. Later!"
"I'm looking forward to it," replies Kuroko whilst waving his hand, as he watches Aomine leave the coffee shop with a faint blush on his face.
Later in the class, Satsuki wonders why the hell Aomine has two cups of coffee with him, rather than just one, like he usually does. "You can have the Cappuccino, Satsuki," he says as he gives Satsuki the Cappuccino and takes the cup of Americano for himself. He smiles when he spots a neatly handwritten phone number with a 'Kuroko Tetsuya :)' written below it. Aomine proceeds to save the number onto his phone with a name exactly how Kuroko has written it on his cup.
