Work Text:

It’s strange.

It’s strange how Yoo Mia is crying.

It’s strange how she is yelling at Yoo Joonghyuk.

It’s strange how she says “I hate you”.

(Yoo Mia loves her brother more than anything in the world. But second to him comes Kim Dokja. And he knew that. He just never thought that she’d put him before her brother.)

It’s unnerving.

It’s unnerving to see Yoo Joonghyuk cry.

It’s unnerving to see him on his knees.

It’s unnerving to hear him say “I’m sorry”.

(Dokja hates it when he says “please don’t go”. When Mia says it, however, his heart softens.)

It’s heartbreaking.

It’s heartbreaking to give one last smile to Yoo Mia.

It’s heartbreaking to ignore the fragile man in front of him.

It’s heartbreaking to turn around and open the door, to leave the place that had been his home for so long.

(He wonders when it had stopped being his home. He wonders when it had started being his cage.)

But it’s liberating.

It’s liberating to see his packed belongings in his bags.

It’s liberating to step out of the open door.

It’s liberating to finally be free of their relationship.

It’s liberating to cry, all alone, in his new rented apartment.

(He had to be strong before. He had to be certain, adamant. But now no one can see him. Now he can break down in tears.)

That night, he sits with Han Sooyoung with a stack of photos, a paper shredder, two bottles of beer and a pizza (her treat, for once).

As he watches the paper disappear through the machine, he feels lighter. Like he’s finally letting go of Yoo Joonghyuk.

“Go to hell, cheating bastard,” declares Han Sooyoung, raising her bottle.

Dokja looks at the photo in his hand. He and Joonghyuk are 17 in the picture, smiling and linking arms and holding hands. Ah, must be when we got together.

It truly had been the best day of his life. The sun seemed to have shone brighter that day, the wind had been calm and uplifting. And Yoo Joonghyuk had been smiling, laughing even, even more handsome than usual.

He looks at their intertwined fingers.

“I promise to be by your side forever, Dokja.”

Yes, truly, they had been beautiful once.

But I don’t want to remember anymore.

He put the photo through the paper shredder as he smiled and held up his own bottle. “Cheers to that.”

Tonight, he will tear apart all these memories. Tonight, he will diss Yoo Joonghyuk with Han Sooyoung. Tonight, he will drink his worries away. Tonight, he will cry for the last time.

But tomorrow he will wake up and leave all that behind.

Tomorrow, he will start anew.

Thank you for reading! I might write more ORV fics, who knows? Probably more angst though, haha~
