karlnap play with puppies (while answering fan questions)

Summary:

Buzzfeed presents The Puppy Interview ft. Sapnap and Karl Jacobs

The room fills with the sound of eager puppies as two people walk in with their arms full of little, golden retrievers that are practically bouncing with excitement. They come tottering toward the boys as soon as they are let down onto the violet paper covering the floor.

“They’re so tiny!” Sapnap exclaims, reaching out for one of them and holding it up to his face. Another one clambers onto his thighs, followed by one more, curiously exploring anywhere they can.

big thank you to meilo for your lovely ideas and to bee for editing as well :))

Work Text:

“This looks exactly like it did when I did this,” Dream comments as the four of them walk into the set of the interview. A small team of people is bumbling around them, adjusting lights and mics, and preparing for their arrival. The group stops right in the middle, in the way of everyone, waiting to be told what to do and where to go.

Sapnap turns to the blond and scoffs lightly. “Yeah, except the backdrop is clearly a completely different color,” he gestures to the lavender-colored set in front of them.

“I think your boyfriend is rubbing off on you, Dream,” Karl says, failing to hide his smirk.

Not really paying attention to his friends, George grabs onto Dream’s pinky finger absentmindedly as his gaze wanders around the busy room. Sapnap notices, of course, glancing down at their intertwined hands and then back up at Dream’s smiling face, “Case in point.”

The last time any of them were here was during Dream’s notorious kitten interview not too long ago, and only George tagged along for that. This time around, it is Sapnap and Karl’s time to shine in a vibrant Buzzfeed video, with both Dream and George hanging out (and being annoying) behind the camera.

And this time, there are puppies! Lots of puppies. Karl is pretty sure he can hear them yipping and yapping behind a door somewhere. He can’t wait to meet them, grinning wide at the thought of having them in his lap in just a few minutes.

The director, who they recognize as Hanna, approaches them from across the room with a cheerful stylist close behind her. “Hey, guys! Nice to meet you,” she smiles and shakes Sapnap’s hand first, then Karl’s. They both give her big smiles back, and a small ‘hi’ and ‘hello’.

Hanna then gestures to Dream and George, greeting them as well, “And good to see you again.” She nods toward the set and continues, “A couple of seats have been set out for you over there by the lights, so feel free to make yourselves comfortable.” Another kind smile toward the pair, and then George is pulling Dream by his pinky over to the soft bean bags she pointed to.

Karl and Sapnap share a knowing look as they watch their friends slide their seats right next to each other for maximum closeness. And both of them know they’ll end up sharing a soda can even though there are plenty in the cooler for them to have one each.

“So,” Hanna starts. “You two can go sit on those taped spots you see on the backdrop and our MUA Jordan here,” she gestures to the stylist who waves at them, “will be with you in a second to get you camera-ready. Does that sound okay?”

“Yeah, for sure!” Karl agrees for the both of them, and they walk over and sit down as comfortably as they can on the hard floor, giggling nervously as they prepare themselves. Jordan touches up their hair and applies some sort of matte powder to their faces, before handing them a box full of paper slips, presumably the questions, and wishing them good luck.

Hanna gets behind the main camera and calls out, “Alright, and…we’re rolling!”

The Puppy Interview | Buzzfeed

Starring: Sapnap and Karl Jacobs

We had fans submit questions they’ve wanted to ask Karl and Sapnap, and gave them a bunch of puppies to play with.

A click of a black and white clapperboard later, and the room fills with the sound of eager puppies as two people walk in with their arms full of little, golden retrievers that are practically bouncing with excitement.

Karl coos as he holds one to his chest like a baby, glancing over at the other and looking absolutely over the moon. He tries handing the puppy over to Sapnap so he can have a go at cradling it too, but it refuses to budge from the curly-headed man's arms.

Sapnap frowns, “How come that one likes you better than me?”

“I’m just cooler,” the taller of them shrugs as if it’s obvious.

“Oh yeah? Well, look how cool I am now—” he gathers four little dogs in retaliation and holds them all at once with gentle hands. Karl leans over to pet a soft finger over their fluffy fur with his free hand.

He giggles, “Okay fireboy.”

Question 1: How did you meet?

Karl reads out the first question, looking over at Sapnap as he folds up the piece of paper, silently encouraging him to answer.

He gets the memo and starts talking. “Uhm, we met through the SMP after Dream added him,” he smiles at the brunet who is nodding along, then shrugs before continuing, “and yeah, we just kind of became part of each other’s friend groups like that.”

One of the puppies has wandered over to a tangle of cords on the ground and is trying to chew on them. “Oh—” Sapnap quickly reaches over and grabs it, placing it back safely in his lap.

“What he’s trying to say is that Minecraft roleplay is what brought us together,” Karl deadpans to the camera, gaining a scoff from the other.

Question 2: How often do you text, and what are your most recent texts?

“Ooh, this one should be interesting,” both of them bring out their phones and open up their messages, smiling but saying nothing about how each other’s names are always at the top of the app.

“I’m kinda scared to see what it is, to be honest,” Sapnap admits with a chuckle. “We text quite a lot. But ours aren’t as bad as Dream and George’s, that I will say.”

The brunet agrees, “Yeah, like definitely every day, on both iMessage and Discord— oh, our most recent texts are literally from this morning!” Both of them start giggling when they see what they had written earlier.

Sapnap clears his throat, “At 10.23 am, I texted Karl a kind reminder that we needed to leave soon—”

Well,” he drags out the word. “I don’t know about kind…”

“Alright, I’ll admit that I was a little harsh, but then Karl responds with ‘shut the f up no one likes you’— like what? How is that fair?” Sapnap says incredulously, eyebrows scrunched up in disbelief.

But Karl is just giggling beside him, nuzzling his face in the doggies’ soft fur. “Don’t forget the ‘+ ratio’ that I added on afterward.” He leans on Sapnap’s shoulder, who pretends to strangle him in response.

“Who wants to hear mine and George’s texts—” Dream calls out (totally uncalled for), his signature cheeky smile evident in his tone, but he is quickly drowned out by Sapnap reading out the next question.

Question 3: What is your favorite memory together?

Just as they both open their mouths to answer, one particularly rowdy pup determines now as the perfect time to give everyone a piece of their mind, barking and yapping for a long minute. Karl holds it up with outstretched arms, giving a pointed look when it finally quiets down, “Are you done?”

“Guess she just had a lot to say.” Sapnap shrugs before continuing, “I think I know what my favorite memory is, and I think we’re thinking of the same one.” He gestures a hand between them.

Karl looks at him, “Really? Ok, let’s say it on one, ready? Three, two, one—”

Bonfire night,” they say it in total unison, resulting in a fit of giggles afterward.

“Yeah, that was some of the most fun I’ve ever had, honestly. And we took some pictures which one of us posted—”

“I did,” Karl smiles. “It’s up on my insta, I’m pretty sure.”

They meet each others’ gaze for a brief second, and Sapnap swears he can see their shared memory in Karl’s eyes, with the fire and the marshmallows, and the warming thrill of wearing each others’ hoodies when the night got cold. It truly was—and is—one of his most cherished experiences.

He blinks away the fire and starts talking again, looking back at the camera. “Yeah, bonfire night was so fun.”

Question 4: What is it like living with Dream and George?

Karl reads out the question and Sapnap lets out a dramatic sigh, looking down at the ground. The other pats him on the back, “Just be honest, Sapnap. You can do it.”

“Alright, honestly?” Sapnap looks up and takes a breath, “Living with them is…awful.”

A gasp emits from Karl beside him before he lifts a puppy right up to his face and exclaims, “Do you hear this?”

“No, I’m obviously just kidding,” Sapnap shoots a glance in his roommates’ direction, who are half paying attention and half giggling at something on Dream’s phone, the two of them having somehow managed to sit even closer together. He smiles, “Living with them is actually a lot of fun, and— you know, I’m actually surprised at how easy it has been.”

“Yeah,” Karl butts in absentmindedly, busy fussing over the tan puppy who he has taken a liking to, and it to him.

“And George is just easy to live with in general.” Sapnap continues, raising his eyebrows as he adds, “It might not seem like it by how he acts online, but I’m here to confirm that George is a really chill and nice guy.” He nods to the camera to corroborate what he said.

“Must be a different George from the one I know,” Karl quips, “that’s all I gotta say.”

A scoff is heard from behind the camera, just quiet enough to avoid being picked up by the mic.

Question 5: If you could be one of the other crew boys for a day, who would you be and why?

“Oh, Quackity all the way,” Sapnap’s response comes right away. “Like, I already know Dream’s life is boring as fuck, and George literally just follows him around all day.”

Karl giggles at the offended look the two shoot at them across the set, but Sapnap continues before either of them get a chance to interject. “Quackity, on the other hand,” he raises his eyebrows, “he has so many secrets that I want in on. I’m like 80% sure that he has this double life outside of streaming.”

“Yeah, you’re right,” the other agrees. “Always out driving, never tells us where he’s going or what he's doing .”

Two puppies let out a few proud yaps, making Sapnap chuckle. “They agree too,” he smiles.

“I’d still wanna be George, though,” Karl admits. “Without a shadow of a doubt.”

Sapnap laughs and points off-camera to the boy in question. “He’s behind the camera like a little creep just like he was when Dream did this interview.” George scoffs faintly, not moving from Dream’s arms.

“And he has the audacity to scoff!” Karl gasps, shaking his head in pretend-disappointment.

“Stop exposing me,” someone has handed George a little microphone so his audio picks up better on tape.

Sapnap looks into the lens, “He’s just camera shy, guys. Right Gogy?”

“Shut up,” clearly suppressing a smile. “Dream’s here too.” He pushes the mic up into the blond’s face, but he just giggles and pushes his hand away again.

Karl and Sapnap roll their eyes at them, sharing a fed-up look. The taller of them turns to the camera with half-lidded eyes, “They’re kissing, guys.”

Question 6: Do you plan on ever moving in together?

“All I know is that I’ll only last so long living with those annoying idiots.”

Karl giggles. “Oh, you mean those lovebirds over there?”

Dream locks eyes with them both as he kisses George’s hand, much to everyone’s distaste. Although, George makes no move to pull his hand away.

Sapnap ignores them. “Exactly. Anyway uh— yeah, we’ve definitely discussed maybe getting a place together somewhere in the future. But we’re pretty happy where we are now, I think, and we still see each other every few weeks. And besides, I’ve only been living with George for a little while, and I don’t want that to end just yet.”

He looks over at Karl next to him and for a second he lets himself be mesmerized by the way his gentle hands play with the puppies, trying desperately to tune out how much he wants to intertwine their fingers.

Karl bites back a smile, pretending not to notice his staring. “Couldn’t have said it better myself,” he says honestly.

Out in the parking lot after filming and saying their goodbyes, the four of them pile into Dream’s car to start the drive back to their hotel. George sits in the passenger seat, of course, while Karl and Sapnap are happy to sit together in the backseat.

“You guys did great,” Dream looks at them both in the rearview mirror as the engine rumbles to life. “Maybe you should get a dog together.”

“Why’d you have to say that,” Sapnap groans as Karl, just as predicted, whips around to face him and grabs ahold of both his hand excitedly.

“You’re getting me a dog, Sapnap,” he decides with a wide grin. “And it better be a golden retriever.”

And Sapnap probably will (he will).
