Work Text:
“Hey! I saw you at the U.A. Sports Festival on TV! Your name is Shouta Aizawa, right!?” said a bubbly, obviously first year student with seafoam green hair.
“And you are?” asked third year Shouta Aizawa.
“I’m Emi Fukukado! I go to Ketsubutsu Academy!” the girl said, holding on to the straps to her backpack. “I’m in a hero course just like you!”
Shouta looked the girl up and down. She wore a gray polo shirt and a brown skirt, the colors of Ketsubutsu Academy’s uniform. “Are you stalking me?”
“Wha- NO! I’m with some friends actually. I saw you and I just had to come over and say hi! I think you’re really cool! I know you didn’t win but you put on a good fight! Your quirk is amazing, and that scarf thingy is super cool!” she squealed, her eyes sparkling in amazement.
“Is that it?” he asked, sighing loudly. “I have somewhere to be.”
“Do you have a girlfriend!?” she bluntly asked as she stepped in front of him as he tried to walk away. “I think you’re really cute and I like you! Go out with me!”
“No,” he quickly retorted.
“Wait, so no to not having a girlfriend or no to going out with me,” she asked.
“Both,” he grumbled.
“Wah! Why!? Is it because I go to Ketsubutsu and not U.A.?” she whined.
“No,” he deadpanned. “I don’t want to date you. I don’t even know who you are.”
“You can get to know me! Our schools aren’t far from each other! We can go out sometime!” she exclaimed.
“Isn’t it over an hour away from U.A. by train?” he asked her.
“Actually, an hour and fifteen minutes but that’s not long!” she laughed.
“Well, I don’t want to know you, nor do I want to date you, Fukakado,” he said.
“It’s Fukukado, but you almost got it right! You can call me Emi if you wanna!” she corrected him, grinning widely. “See, one step closer to know each other!”
“No, it’s not,” he deadpanned again, causing her to laugh off the embarrassment.
“You’re a real laugh riot, buddy!” she laughed.
When she laughed this time around, Shouta began to feel a weird sensation in his body. He felt like he was going to laugh. He quickly activated his quirk and all of a sudden, the feeling was gone.
“W-What is your quirk,” he asked her, his eyes red and his hair standing up.
“Oh! You stopped my quirk I’m guessing because of your eyes. My quirk is called outburst! I can make people laugh uncontrollably until they can’t breathe anymore! Pretty cool, huh?” she giggled.
“No, it’s no,” he grumbled. “You obviously don’t have your hero license if you’re a first year. You shouldn’t be using your quirk on people.” He deactivated his quirk, his hair falling down and over his shoulders, then glared at the first year. “That’s dangerous.”
“Sorry!” she said, clapping her hands and bowing as she apologized. “I’m still struggle to control it when I laugh! I usually wear a mask to help tone it down, but it broke during training. I’m waiting for a new one.”
“Then you shouldn’t be laughing, especially if you can’t control it,” he grumbled again. He sighed loudly and allowed his shoulders to drop. “Anyways, I need to go. You wasted enough of my time already. Bye.”
Shouta moved to the side and walked past her, causing Emi to quickly turn to see where he was going. She ran and caught up with him, walking at his pace once she reached him.
“Wait! Why don’t you want to date me!?” she asked him.
“Because I’m not looking to date someone and you’re obviously loud. I hate loud,” he told her. “Leave me alone!”
“Okay! So, when you wanna date! Call me! I’ll give you my number!” she said.
Aizawa stopped in his tracks and turned to face her, obviously not happy that she was annoying him, so sucked his teeth, giving her furrowed brows in anger.
“No, I don’t want your number and I don’t want to date you!” he told her.
Emi lips pouted, then she looked down. “O-Oh… Okay, sorry for bothering then.”
Shouta sighed loudly and brought up his hand to scratch the back of his neck. “Look, I’m sorry, but I need to focus on becoming a hero after I graduate.”
“So, does that mean once you graduate, you can give me a chance?” She popped her head up quickly.
“N-No!” he flinched when he saw her head rise up quickly. “I never said that!”
“Aw,” she pouted. “Fine, I get it. You have no interest in dating. Got it.”
“Good,” he sighed again. “I have to go. I guess… I guess I’ll see you in the field in a couple of years…”
Emi’s eyes widened and began to sparkle when he said that to her. She grinned so hard, her cheeks made her eyes squint. “Yeah, I’ll see you in the field. My hero name is Ms. Joke! So, remember that, okay!?”
“I’ll try not to,” he told her sarcastically, but she didn’t catch it. “Anyways, I really got to go, see ya.”
“W-Wait! What’s your hero name, so I can remember!? I mean, I definitely won’t forget your name or face, but I still want to know before you go!”
Aizawa cursed under his breath, then sighed once more. “It’s Eraserhead.”
“Eraserhead,” she nodded. “Even your name is awesome! Okay, Eraser, I’ll see you in a few years maybe! We probably will work together!”
“We’ll see,” he said.
“Okay, I’ll let you go! Sorry for bothering! I’ll see you again soon, Eraser!”
“Whatever, Joke.”
It was spring three years later, and Shouta Aizawa just finished his night shift. As he walked out of his agency building and on to the streets of Musutafu, exhausted from working overnight to beat up some bad guys, he heard a voice call out his hero name.
“Eraser! I can’t believe it’s you!” said the voice.
Shouta turned and saw a familiar seafoam green haired girl, who wore an orange bandana and had smiley faces on her hero costume.
“W-What?” he stuttered, trying to remember the girl’s name.
The girl ran up to him with a huge smile on her face and put her hands behind her back, tippytoeing towards him.
“I can’t believe it! You work close by to my agency!” she laughed.
Shouta raised a brow at her, “and you are?”
“You don’t remember me!?” she pouted, releasing her hands from her back and planting her feet on the ground.
“Not really,” he told her.
“It’s me! Emi Fukukado! I was the girl who asked you out from Ketsubutsu Academy!” she explained.
“Oh…” he said, now remembering who she was. “You’re the one with the laughing quirk. Ms. Joke, was it?”
“Yeah! That’s my hero name! See, you do remember me!” she giggled.
“Yeah, I now remember how loud you were,” he sighed.
“Yup, that was me!” she laughed again.
“So, did you figure out my agency and happened to get a job in an agency close by me or what?” he asked.
“No! I happened to get a recommendation to work at my agency, thank you very much!” she pouted once more. “It was probably faith though! You and I are now gonna be able to work together! Isn’t that cool!?”
“No,” he retorted.
“Haha! You know it’s faith, buddy!” she laughed louder than before to the point where she teared up. She wiped the tear from her eye, then gave Shouta a wide grin again. “So, you still single or what? I happened to be single, myself. If you are, let’s go out!”
“No,” he retorted again.
“Wait, to which part?”
“Both.”
“Wah! It’s been three years! Are you still not looking for a girlfriend!?” she wailed.
“No, I have a job I need to worry about,” he groaned.
“Oh, come on! It’s faith that we meet once again, and you still don’t see we are meant to be!?”
“No.”
“Really!?”
“Yes, really.”
Emi sighed loudly in defeat and slouched her shoulders. She thought that seeing him again after three years, he would finally accept her request.
“Well, you are gonna fall in love with me soon, Eraser! Watch! You’re gonna be my future husband!” she poked him in the chest, causing him to suck his teeth again.
“No, I won’t. I would never date you nor be your future husband.”
Six years have passed, and it was now September.
Shouta Aizawa was on his first year of teaching at U.A. High School and, his class was taking the hero licensing exam.
He sat alone in the stadium seats while students were preparing to start the exam, crossing his arm, and tapping his foot, since he wanted this exam to be over with. He was exhausted from taking a last-minute patrol the night before, so he lacked sleep.
“Eraser!? Is that you!?” said a familiar feminine voice that made him cringe.
He looked over and saw the smile hero, with of course a huge smile on her face, waving at him while she walked between seats to get to him.
“I heard you started teaching at U.A.! I didn’t think we would run into each other at the licensing exam!” she laughed. She stopped two seats before him and took a seat, then leaned in toward his direction. “It’s faith!”
“Joke, what are you doing here?” he asked her, cursing internally.
“You didn’t hear!? I started teaching at Ketsubutsu Academy,” she told him. “I was offered a position and couldn’t say no! I teach second years, so they are taking the exam today! Pretty neat, huh!?”
“No, it’s not,” he sighed. “Since when did you want to be a teacher?”
“I can ask you the same question,” she laughed.
“I asked you first.”
“I asked you second.”
Shouta sucked his teeth and grumbled, irritated by her teasing. “Answer the question, Joke.”
“Alright, alright,” her laugh died down. “I didn’t really think about it before, but when I was offered it, I thought it was a good idea. Plus, I loved being at Ketsubutsu and adored my teachers, so I wanted to kinda give back. Now, how about you? I thought you hated kids.”
“Midnight and Present Mic dragged me into it,” Shouta closed his eyes and sighed loudly. “Next thing I knew, I was given a full-time position.”
“Oh! Yeah! I forgot they teach, too! How sweet is it that you get to work with your best friends!?” she said. “You guys probably have loads of fun.”
“It’s annoying,” he groaned.
“Aw, don’t be like that!” she laughed again. “So, I’ve been meaning to ask you-”
“I’m not going to date you, Joke,” he interrupted her.
“Oh, come on!” she whined. “I know you’re still single, Eraser! Date me!”
“No,” he quickly retorted.
The exam buzzer went off, interrupted both teachers. When Emi looked into the field, she saw that one group had less students than the rest.
“I wonder what school has less than five kids taking the exam,” she said, standing to get a better view at the field.
“That’s my class,” he told her, causing her to gasp.
“What!? How!? Is U.A. not accepting the usual number of kids?!” she asked him in shock.
“No, it’s not that. I expelled some kids because they did not have what it takes to be a pro hero,” he said.
“WOW! That is so mean of you, Eraser!” she gasped again.
“Shut up,” he grumbled. “And it’s not. If they cannot handle the training, they should not be heroes.”
“Man, you can’t even give them a chance?” she asked. “And how is U.A. even allowing this?”
“I had permission to weed out any students who I think are not fit to be a hero. Most of these new kids just want the fame and fortune. They do not want to be real heroes,” he said, the sighed. “It’s for their own good.”
“Wow, you really are tough, Eraser,” she said. “That’s why I need to break your tough shell until you date me.”
“I’m never gonna date you,” he groaned.
“You’ll see, Eraser.”
Six years later had past and now it been summer. Shouta Aizawa was stuck at a birthday party that was hosted by none other than his best friend, Present Mic, who happened to also be the birthday boy, turning the ripe age of 33. Mic invited many pro heroes that could come and of course, Emi Fukukado was one of them.
“Eraser! Why do you look so gloomy! Have a drink!” Emi laughed over the loud music and shoved Shouta lightly. “Loosen up!”
“How are you louder than the music?” he grumbled, causing Emi to laugh.
“Because I’m close to you, duh!” she laughed again. “What’s up, Eraser? You’re not having fun! This is Mic’s party! He knows how to throw a great one!”
“I hate parties,” he said before grabbing his red solo cup full of water, since he did not want to drink when Mic was planning on drinking till be probably blacked out, which meant Shouta was responsible for him.
“Oh, come on! Parties are great! How about we dance!?”
“No!”
“Please!?”
“No!”
“Come on, Eraser! You’re no fun!” Emi whined and pouted.
“I don’t even like fun,” he told her, drinking his cup of water again.
“Of course, you don’t,” she sighed, then took a sip of her own drink. “Hey, wanna get some fresh air then? It’s getting a little stuffy in here.”
Shouta happened to like the idea of going out for some fresh air. “Fine, let’s go.”
“R-Really!?” she said in shock, especially shocked that he agreed to go with her.
“Yes, really,” he said.
“O-Okay! Let’s go!”
The two made their way out of the venue and on to the streets of Musutafu. Shouta took in a deep breath of relief, since he wanted to leave the party so desperately, even if it was just for a few minutes.
“You seem happy to be outside,” Emi giggled as she watched him.
“Yeah, well, the loud music and talking was giving me a headache,” he sighed as he put a hand into his pocket. “I rather be outside for now. I’ll go back in to check up on Mic, though.”
“What a good friend you are. You’re willing to come to his party even though you hate everything about parties,” she continued to giggle.
“More like he would drag me against my will if I even said no,” he said to her, hearing her giggle some more.
“You’re funny, Eraser, you know that? Even if you hate jokes and funny stuff, you still say funny things,” she told him.
“I was being serious,” he groaned.
“I know, but it’s still funny,” she softly laughed. As her laugh died down, she took in a deep breath and exhaled with exaggeration. “Ah, the summer is so nice.”
“Really? It’s disgusting and hot,” he scoffed.
“Yeah, but I get to wear cute dresses and stuff!” she said. She took a few steps in front of him and twirled in her cute, baby blue summer dress. “Don’t you think my dress is cute?”
“Why are you asking me?” he shrugged, causing Emi to pout.
“Because I just bought it! I would like a complement from you once in a while, Eraser!” she continued to pout.
Shouta closed his eyes and sighed, then opened them to look at her. “It’s a nice dress, Joke.”
“That’s it!?” she whined.
“What else do you want me to say?” he asked her.
“You could say, ‘Joke, you look very cute in that cute dress,’ or something! You only complemented the dress, not me!” she whined, then sulked. “You really don’t know how to make a girl feel good, huh, Eraser?”
Aizawa rolled his eyes and sucked his teeth. “Fine,” he sighed again. “Emi, you look beautiful in that dress.”
Emi was caught off guard. Not only did he call her by her name, but he called her beautiful. “E-Eraser, y-you-”
“I what? Called you beautiful?” he shrugged. “Or was the issue calling you by your name?”
“Both!” she blushed profusely.
“Well,” he shrugged again. “Isn’t that what you wanted to hear?”
“N-Not l-like t-that!” she stuttered on every word.
“So, you can say you want to date me and call me your future husband for the past what, 15 years, and I can’t call you beautiful? That’s unfair,” he said.
“W-Well,” she stuttered, still blushing, and twiddling her fingers. “I-I just didn’t think you would say it that way. I-I mean I guess I’m just over thinking it!” she began to laugh. “You definitely don’t mean it.”
“Who said I didn’t mean it?” he asked, taking a step closer to her.
Emi began to breathe heavily when she and Shouta were just inches apart. She looked up at him, and gulped, anticipating what was going to happen next.
“Y-You mean it?” she asked him.
“Yeah, I mean it. Is that a problem?” he raised a brow as he looked down at her.
“N-NO! Not at all!” she quickly said nervously.
“Good, glad we are on the same page now,” he said, now giving her a smirk that made her heart skip a beat.
“Go out with me!” she bluntly said, causing Shouta to let out a laugh, which made her heart stop for a moment now.
“You never change,” he told her, still smirking at her. “Huh, Emi.”
“Well, you denied my request to be my boyfriend for the past 15 years! You might as well finally accept it!” she continued to blush profusely as she spoke.
Shouta looked away and sighed, then looked back down at her. “Fine, I’ll go out with you.”
“R-Really!” she nearly shouted, causing Shouta to wince. “You’re not drunk, are you?”
“No, I’m not drunk and yes, really,” he groaned, rubbing his ear.
“No joking around?”
“No joking around.”
Emi couldn’t believe it. After all these years, she finally got him to say yes.
“You better take me somewhere nice, Shouta Aizawa! You had 15 years to decided where our first date should be!” she said, poking his chest.
“Yeah, yeah,” he said, ignoring her pokes. “Whatever you say, Emi.”
Almost two years later, and it was spring again. A perfect day for a wedding.
Well, there was a wedding.
Finally, Emi was able to soon call Shouta Aizawa her husband. She nervously paced back and forth in her wedding kimono, overthinking the situation, and psyching herself out. Of course, she wanted to go through with it, but her mind told her she will screw it up and that it won’t be perfect. She also began to think Shouta would have second thoughts in marrying her.
“Emi, please stop pacing back and forth,” her mother said to her. “You are going to wrinkle the kimono.”
“But I’m nervous!” she told her mother as she stopped and turned to face her as she began to ramble now. “What if he changes his mind!? What if I fall and embarrass myself!? What if a villain attacks and ruins my wedding!? There are endless possibilities of how this wedding would go and I don’t know if I can take it!”
“Calm down, Emi,” her mother took her by the shoulders and shook some sense into her. “Everything is going to be okay!”
“But what if it’s not?” Emi’s eyes began to water.
“Emi, don’t cry! You’ll ruin your makeup!” her mother whined.
“B-But I’m nervous!” Emi began to stutter.
“Stop it, Emi! Everything is going to be oka-” her mother said before she was interrupted by a knock on the door.
“Is everything alright in there?” said a familiar voice to Emi.
“S-Shouta?” she stuttered again.
“I’m coming in,” she heard him say, then saw that the door of the room slid opened.
Shouta opened the door and spotted his future wife and mother-in-law. He saw that Emi looked obviously nervous and stressed out and that her mother held Emi by her shoulders.
“Emi, what’s wrong?” he asked her. Though he began to regret asking because he saw her eyes begin to water. “E-Emi!?”
“Shouta,” she whined, almost on the verge of crying again. “I’m nervous!”
Shouta sighed, then looked over to Emi’s mother. “Can we have a second, Fukukado-san? I’ll try to calm her nerves.”
“Please do,” Emi’s mother sighed as she let her arms fall from her daughter’s shoulders. “Emi, I’ll be back. Please calm down.”
Emi didn’t answer but sniffled and nodded. Her mother sighed again, then walked out of the room, closing the door behind her, leaving both Shouta and Emi alone now.
“Emi,” Shouta said as she walked up to her. “What’s wrong? Why are you nervous?”
“B-Because,” she sniffled again. “What if the wedding goes wrong, Shouta? What if you decide you actually don’t want to marry me?”
Shouta sighed again and this time, put his hands on her shoulders. “Look, Emi, nothing wrong is going to happen. Everything is handled properly.” He brought one hand up and cupped her cheek. “And I’m not changing my mind. If I didn’t want to marry you, I would have never proposed.”
“B-But some people are left at the altar! It’s a common thing!” she began to cry.
“I’m not leaving you at the altar, Emi,” he sighed again, as he rubbed his thumb over here cheek. “I’m going to marry you and that’s final.”
“S-So, you’re not going to change your mind?” she asked him, sniffling once more.
Shouta shook his head, then gave her a faint smile before giving her a kiss on the lips. “No, I’m not changing my mind; I don’t go back on my word. You’re going to be my wife and I am going to be your husband. Nothing is gonna get in the way of that, okay?”
Emi nodded. “O-Okay,” she told him.
Shouta smirked at her, then bent down a little to meet her eye to eye. “You look beautiful, Emi.”
“T-Thank you,” she stuttered, blushing now. “You look hot in that kimono. You should wear one more often.”
Shouta shook his head and let out a scoff. “Yeah, you’re definitely feeling better now,” he lightly laughed.
“Thanks to you, future husband,” she smiled softly at him.
“Husband,” he fixed her. “It’s not going to be future husband anymore.”
She let out a laugh, “and you said that would never happen!”
“Well,” he said, pulling her closer to him. “I had a change of heart.”
“You couldn’t resist me, huh, Eraser,” she laughed again.
“Yeah, I guess I couldn’t,” he laughed with her. “I love you, Emi.”
“I love you, too, Shouta.”
