Work Text:
“God, it’s starting to come down out there,” the freelancer said, staring out of their apartment window at the heavy snowfall. Lasko looked up from his book from his spot on the couch, tucked underneath one of Huxley’s arms.
“Is it bad?” Is Damien still at the library? Should- should we call him? He’ll tell us off for hovering, but he could get snowed inside. Or worse- what if he gets stuck in the snow. I know he’s a fire elemental, so he won’t freeze to death or anything but-” Lasko rambled. Huxley picked his phone off the end table and titled the screen so Lasko could read it.
“It looks like he texted us he was leaving about 10 minutes ago, so no need to stress dude. He’ll be home any minute.” The freelancer hummed and continued to look out at the dull grey landscape, searching for the familiar form of one of their boy friends. Strong hands wrapped around their waist and pulled them from the window.
“Deviant…” Gavin whispered into their ear, holding them so their back pressed against his chest. “Watching the window like a soap opera isn’t going to help anything. Why don’t we join the others on the couch?” He asked, kissing them softly behind the ear and trailing kisses down their neck
“Gavin,” they laughed, squirming in his hold and pushing him back. “Can’t you see I’m in the middle of fretting?” Gavin readjusted his hold and rested his head on their shoulder.
“Perhaps you should leave the fretting to Lasko, Deviant. He already holds the position of the worry wart.”
“Hey!” Lasko objected from his spot on the couch. Gavin lifted his head for a moment and winked at the blushing man before putting his head back down.
“Speaking of positions, I know a great way to distract you until Damien gets home,” he teased. They laughed and slipped out of Gavin’s grasp, making their way to join Lasko and Huxley on the couch. They both lifted their arms so the freelancer could spread out across their laps. They finally settled with their head on Huxley’s lap and the rest of their limbs draped over Lasko and the sofa. Both boys dropped their arms back down, Lasko using their body as a book stand. Huxley put one arm back over Lasko’s shoulders and the other one came down to start playing with their hair. The freelancer hummed happily and smiled up at Huxley.
“Enjoying yourself?” Huxley asked, looking down at them.
“I am actually,” they smiled.
“Good,” Huxley said, leaning down and placing a light kiss on their forehead. A comfortable silence settled over the group, before the freelancer sat up again, almost knocking Lasko’s book onto the floor.
“I’m still worried about Damien,” they announced. Gavin signed and walked to the couch, offering them a hand and pulling them off of the other two.
“Come on, let’s make hot chocolate so he has something warm to drink when he gets home, sound good?” The freelancer hummed as Gavin dragged them into the kitchen.
“I’ll take one too!” Huxley called after them.
“Oo, can I have a coffee?” Lasko added.
“Hey, no caffeine after 8,” Huxley reminded him, nudging him gently in the side and Lasko huffed.
“Fine, one hot chocolate please,” and went back to reading his book.
The Freelancer turned the stove on, warming a pot of milk over one of the burners. Gavin came up behind them, wrapping his arms around them again. “Someone’s feeling clingy,” they laughed, stirring the pot as Gavin swayed them side to side.
“Not clingy,” he corrected, “I'm just soothing you. I can literally feel your anxiousness, Deviant. And what kind of boyfriend would I be if I didn’t try to help you… relax.” They dumped the hot chocolate mix into the pot as Gavin continued to hang off of them. They mixed the powder until it was all dissolved, and then poured it in 5 separate mugs, adding toppings to each one. Marshmallow for Huxley, whipped cream for Lasko, cinnamon for Damien, and peppermint syrup for Gavin. Just as they finished making each cup to everyone’s liking, a new voice joined the others in the living room. The Freelancer picked up Damiens mug and headed to greet him. Damien was standing in front of the door, shuffling off his coat and grumbling about the snow. There were several large snowflakes clinging to his hair, although melting very quickly. They placed a kiss to his cheek as he grumbled, his usually hot skin now a more average temperature from the cold.
“What have I told you about kissing me when my hands are full?” He freed his hands from his coat and hung it by the door next to Huxley’s varsity jacket. They kissed him again, this time on the mouth as Damien brought his hands up to gently cup their face. “There, much better.” They just laughed and pressed the mug into his hands. He took it and thanked them, taking the mug with him as he sat in one of the arm chairs. The freelancer walked back into the kitchen, carefully balancing the three remaining mugs in their hands before rejoining their partners in the living room. Gavin had found his spot on Damien’s lap, who was complaining about being used as a cushion, but made no move to push the other man off of him. “We bought an extra arm chair so everyone could have their own seat, you know.”
“I told you I would never use it,” Gavin reminded, pecking Damien on the lips. Damien huffed, hiding his blush by turning his head and drinking his cocoa. The freelancer walked to the other side of the room with the remaining cups. As they got closer, Huxley started to reach for his glass when they stopped him.
"Ah ah ah, you have to pay the chocolate tax.” Huxley looked confused for a moment before understanding what they wanted. He leaned up as much as he could without disturbing Lasko and gave them a sweet kiss. Satisfied, they handed him his mug. Lasko copied his movements, paying the ‘tax’ before settling down with his drink.
The Freelancer sat down next to Lasko, resting their head on his shoulder and closing their eyes. They spent the night snowed into their tiny apartment, surrounded by the people they love.
