Work Text:
The night before today, Tommy’s dad dropped him off at Wilbur’s for the week. Wilbur had been in America and missed Tommy, so he instantly took up the opportunity to have Tommy at his house for awhile. He woke up and walked into his bathroom to do his normal morning routine, when he realised the blood in his underwear. He sighed sadly and grabbed a tampon, put it in then headed downstairs. He checked his sheets and pyjama shorts and no blood had leaked through, so he didn’t have to worry about Tommy finding out. Tommy gets protective and worried when Wilbur starts his period, his older brother figure had called him crying enough so now Tommy knows he needs that extra support. And he does, but Wilbur doesn’t wanna ruin Tommy’s stay, so he keeps it a secret.
When he enters the kitchen, he sees Tommy making them some food. It’s just some bacon, toast and scrambled eggs, nothing special. They sit at the table and eat, making small convocations about their plans for the next week. Once they’ve done, Wilbur takes the dishes and begins to watch them, but Tommy notices how he keeps bending over slightly like he’s in pain, or he grips his stomach area and makes a small noise. At first, he thinks nothing of it, going to sit in the living room and turning on the TV, letting a random show play as he scrolls through his phone.
Wilbur joins him soon after, curling up slightly and putting his head on Tommy’s shoulder, the two of them laughing at random videos on the phone. Tommy notices this, as well. Usually, when they’re cuddling, Wilbur likes to hold Tommy close into his chest, it’s unusual for Wilbur to be the one wanting to be cuddled unless he wants comfort. Tommy guesses he’s just tired and leaves it. After a few minutes, Tommy recommends to head to the local ASDA to buy some snacks and stuff for a film night. Wilbur agrees and the two of them go to get changed.
Problem is that when Wilbur goes into his box of products, he only has a singular pad left. He groans in annoyance. He knows he can just buy some at the store, but he absolutely hates it. Even though the cashiers never question him buying them, he prefers going to the store with Niki or other friends he has who are women, it makes him feel less dysphoric that he knows the cashier will immediately assume it’s for them. It’s a weird thought, but he’s always been upset by it.
He gets changed before heading downstairs, then the two walk for around 15 minutes before seeing the shop and heading inside. They buy loads of food, and a few random stuff such as toilet roll or some more shampoo that Wilbur ran out of. Then just as they’re about the pay, Wilbur makes a sad noise before picking up a few packets of pads and tampons and tossing them in the trolley Tommy is pushing.
Tommy is confused by Wilbur seeming so upset by this, he keeps this in his mind. Then he remembers the other stuff that happened today and he doesn’t know what’s wrong, but he knows something is. It could just be a bad dysphoria day, Wilbur gets those every now and then. The two go to pay before heading back outside.
“Are you alright?” Tommy finally asks, his eyebrows furrowing in concern when Wilbur doubles over and grips his stomach. Wilbur doesn’t answer suddenly hit by a severe wave of pain, cramps and a headache forming quickly. Tommy puts the bags on the pavement and kneels down so he can see Wilbur’s face, he pulls him lightly against the floor so he isn’t bent over in an awkward position. “What’s wrong, Will?” Tommy asks, putting his hand against Wilbur’s forehead. He isn’t hot or clammy, so he’s confused by the pain Wilbur seems to be in. Wilbur doesn’t feel like answering, his pain suddenly extremely severe, he just pulls out a packet of tampons and shows Tommy, who instantly understands.
“Aw, Will. It’s okay, let’s get home, yeah? It’s freezing and we are on the floor, this can’t be sanitary at all” Tommy says, making Wilbur laugh slightly at his concern. Tommy puts his hand out and pulls Wilbur up, keeping a hand on his back as the two walk. Wilbur never really found out why his period pains could be so severe, it’s gotten to the point where he’s fainted due to them multiple times. Once he fainted literally on top of Phil, just fell back onto the older man at a meet-up they had.
The two get back into the house, Tommy ordering Wilbur’s binder off and him to change into his pyjamas. Tommy puts the stuff they bought away, tossing the packets of products to Wilbur as he does that. He also heats up a hot water bottle as Wilbur orders some Chinese food from the living room sofa. He sits down next to his best friend once he’s done putting everything away, throwing a blanket Wilbur got off of Jack for his birthday over the two. Wilbur instantly moves so he’s tucked into Tommy’s side, the younger arm around his shoulder as he clicks lazily through Netflix. They end up putting some random documentary on about unsolved murder cases and sit there until the pizza arrives. Wilbur also has the hot water bottle and has took a few pills, so he feels a little bit better.
Once the pizza arrives, the two eat it and chat a little bit, Wilbur beginning to feel tired. He gets up to change his pad and brush his teeth before coming back and saying he’s heading to bed. Tommy hesitantly asks if he can spend the night with him, apparently the guest room makes scary noises and Tommy gets afraid. Wilbur laughs loudly at that but agrees, the two get all their night stuff ready before cuddling up, Wilbur has his head on Tommy’s chest.
He’s still in pain and his head has started pounding again, but he thinks with Tommy by his side, he will be able to get through this. No matter the pain, either in his body or the pain in his mind, also known as dysphoria, Tommy is always there to help. To make him feel better, reassure him, anything. He loves this kid so much.
