gifted to chris for the prompt

My only experience with detentions is the stories my brother told me when he got In School Suspension for breaking a laptop so this probably won't be that accurate uhskgks

Work Text:

Marc withered under Mendeleiev's steely gazy as she ushered him to her empty classroom for detention. He wasn't really doing anything bad! Well, bringing a pocket knife to school certainly looked like that, but considering how often they were attacked by akumas, he'd argue it was more for self defense than harming others.

Mendeleiev seemed to realize this too, and that's probably why he was only getting detention instead of suspension, or worse, expulsion.

He sat down in the back, looking down in shame as his teacher took a seat at the front of the room at her desk, already shuffling through papers to grade work, saying out loud for Marc to start doing his own work quietly. The writer drudged out a pencil and some homework, still refusing to look up and possibly meet Mendeleiev's disappointed eyes.

He's so grateful she didn't report him for this. He could've gone to juvenile detention! They'd use him to pick out gunk out of their teeth like the toothpick he is!

"Oh, you're here too?"

Marc's head shot up, surprised at the voice. Nathaniel waved awkwardly at his boyfriend from the aisle, obviously not expecting to see him. "What did you do?" Marc asked without thinking, curious how the artist had gotten himself in detention as well.

Nathaniel blushed, messing with his bangs, "Oh, nothing much... Just punched a kid in the face."

Marc blinked at him in shock, before choking out a surprised, "WHY?!"

The artist huffed, "I heard him insulting you for being gay. Then I just kinda reacted without thinking." Marc's cheeks flushed at the noble motivation, even if punching someone still wasn't okay.

"No talking," Mendeleiev stated, with a small glare towards the two boys, "Don't sit next to each other either." Nathaniel pouted, but followed her instructions.

Marc went back to doing his work, only to be distracted barely a minute later by a note being thrown across the aisle by his boyfriend.

Babe I'm bored :( Let's get out of here

Marc glanced up to make sure Mendeleiev didn't see as he scribbled back a response.

we're gonna get in trouble

boo can't we do anything?

hold on

Marc tossed the note back once more, before sneaking his phone out of his pocket, searching up the sound of an akuma alert. When he hit play, Mendeleiev's head shot up, the teacher on high alert. The writer pulled out his phone, seeming like he was shocked as well.

"It looks like it's in our area, should we go home?"

Mendeleiev was already packing her stuff, "Yes, make sure to get there safely."

"You too!"

Before she could check her own phone and figure out their trick, Marc snatched Nathaniel, guiding him out of the classroom and down the stairs. Nathaniel giggled as they ran out the front doors of the school, eventually grabbing Marc by the hood and tugging him down into a kiss once they made it far enough away.

"You're so smart!" He praised, unaware of how flustered he had just made Marc. The writer stammered, shyly accepting the compliment. Nathaniel held his hand, leading him back towards his house before they could get in trouble for escaping detention together.

They'd most likely get in trouble for it tomorrow, but in this moment, as they prepared for an afternoon of spending time together, it couldn't matter less.

Notes:

Don't actually skip detention folks!
