Summary
Edith is an ONI operative with a tragic past. Though in her past she found a light that has kept her going and made her motivations complicated. She is assigned at an insurgent base undercover since she blends in nicely. Edith is there to investigate rumors of insurgents trading with unidentified Sangheili forces. After three years with no breakthrough, she finally is asked by the insurgent leader, Brack White, to attend a trade with alien forces. At the trade, the Sangheili fleetmaster grows suspicious that this new girl may know more than the rest of these poorly educated insurgents, even though Edith did not intend to portray that. So, he sends a trusted ally to keep an eye on her and find out what she knows. One way or another, she ends up traveling on the fleetmaster's cruiser with a male elite companion who's determined to make her flustered. In time she realizes that he's not so bad after all. After some initial difficulties, Edith finds herself almost completely alone on this alien ship surrounded by hundreds of Sangheili. Can she navigate becoming a pseudo-ambassador and ensure her own survival?
