Work Text:

Eddie never thought that his night would end up like this, an alpha brawl fight starting over him. But now, here he is. He’s hiding in the bathroom with Lena, and alpha’s are fighting each other. Eddie’s terrified.

Eddie just wanted to have a nice night out with a friend he hasn’t seen in awhile.

“There isn’t anyone you can call?” Lena asks, looking over at Eddie. “We can’t stay here all night!”

“I know!” Eddie scrambles through his phone. He thinks about calling Carla, but she’s with Christopher, and he thinks about calling Bobby too, but he knows Bobby had a date night planned with Athena.

Oh, Buck! Eddie can call Buck. Buck always comes to save him.

“‘Lo?”

“Shit. You were sleeping, weren’t you?”

“Eddie?” Buck asks, suddenly sounding more awake. “Hey, what’s up? Is everything okay?”

“Uh-” Eddie looks over at Lena. “Not exactly. We’re kind of in a situation right now.”

“Put him on speaker,” Lena demands, nudging Eddie.

Eddie rolls his eyes, and puts Buck on speaker.

“Buck. It’s me,” Lena says, scooting closer to Eddie. “Eddie’s an idiot and got us stuck in a bathroom.”

“Lena!” Eddie hisses, his eyes widening. “You can’t just-”

“Oh, come on. Am I wrong? This is entirely your fault,” Lena hisses back.

“Wait, rewind. Why are you stuck in a bathroom?” Buck asks. “Why’s it so noisy? Where are you?”

“Oh, that?” Lena asks. “There’s a bunch of alpha’s fighting outside, and we’re stuck in the bathroom.”

“Eddie, what the fuck?” Buck groans. “Jesus Christ. Where are you?”

“We’re at the bar, the usual one, and it’s not like I asked for this to happen. It’s not my fault you alpha’s are greedy motherfucker’s who can’t keep their hands to themselves! I just wanted to catch up with Lena,”

“So, you went to a bar that’s usually filled with alpha’s for a nice catch up?” Buck asks. “Good one, Eds.”

“We should be allowed in here too just like alpha’s are. I didn’t see a fucking ‘no omega’s allowed’ sign, or ‘no beta’s allowed’,” Eddie scoffs. “Can you just come get us please? I want to leave.”

Buck sighs. “You’re lucky I like you. Jesus Christ. It’s almost midnight,” he complains, before hanging up.

Lena chuckles. “You’re sure he’s not your alpha?”

Eddie immediately looks over at her. “Buck’s not my alpha. We’re just friends. Co-Workers. Partners,”

Lena lets out a snort. “Yeah, sure. You keep telling yourself that Eddie. He’s the first one you called, and he immediately worried over something being wrong when you called him,”

“Lena, christ,” Eddie warns. “Stopit, okay? I already told you. Buck’s not my alpha. We’re not even- Buck doesn’t see me like that. I’m like an annoying little brother to him. That’s all,”

“You’re just too blind to see it, Eddie,” Lena tells him.

“Too blind to see what?” Eddie asks with annoyance.

“Oh my God. You’re so oblivious,” Lena groans.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about, but you’re really annoying,” Eddie grumbles.

“Well, I feel the same way about you, so I guess we’re even,” Lena grumbles back, sinking down, and flinching slightly when there’s a pound on the door, and more yelling from outside. “Christ, stupid alpha’s. Why am I friends with you? You just get us into stupid situations like these.”

“You're friends with me because you don’t have any other friends,” Eddie snaps.

Lena huffs. “Okay. That was a little harsh,”

“Don’t worry. I don’t have many friends either, besides you and Buck. We need each other,” Eddie says.

“I guess that’s true. So, we’re stuck with each other whether we like it or not?”

“Yup. Pretty much,” Eddie nods. “God. How long do you think it’ll take Buck to get here?”

“Knowing Buck? Probably not that long. He’s probably speeding through traffic right now,” Lena says.

Eddie chuckles. “I can’t even argue with you on that one,”

Eddie and Lena wait about ten minutes before they start hearing the police sirens.

“Lena,” Eddie hisses once he starts hearing the sirens, nudging the beta beside him, before standing up on his feet. “There’s police outside. Did Buck call the police?”

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he did,” Lena grumbles, scrambling up to her feet, standing close to Eddie.

Eddie thinks he can hear shouting from outside, but he’s not sure. Then, there’s silence, and then the bathroom door is being kicked open. Eddie blinks, and sees Buck standing there.

“You really caused an alpha brawl,” Buck says flatly.

Eddie rolls his eyes. “Is it safe to come out now?”

Buck chuckles. “Yeah, it’s safe. I brought backup,” he says, before walking over to Eddie. “Are you okay? You’re not hurt, are you? Nobody touched you or anything?”

“No, I’m fine,” Eddie says, shrugging Buck off. “Can we leave?”

“Yeah, we can leave,” Buck says, sighing softly, before looking over at Lena. “You’re okay?”

Lena rolls her eyes. “You’re such an alpha,” she mumbles. “Yes Buck. I’m fine.”

“You really think I would have let anything happen to her?” Eddie huffs.

Buck laughs softly, and gently leads the two out of the bathroom, where they see Athena and Bobby getting the last of the alpha’s out of the bar.

“You called Athena and Bobby?” Eddie groans. “I didn’t call them for a specific reason!”

“Yeah, because you wanted Buck to be your hero,” Lena whispers in his ear.

“Shut up,” Eddie hisses, before looking over at Athena. “You didn’t have to come out here, guys.”

“Of course we did, when Buck told us that you two were locked in a bathroom because of alpha’s,” Athena assures him. “We knew Buck would need back up.”

“And we weren’t going to let anything happen to you, or Lena,” Bobby says. “You’re important to us, Eddie. Besides, you’ve got a son. Christopher needs you.”

“Well, thanks. I’m sorry for interrupting date night,” Eddie mumbles.

“No worries. We were just playing cards at home. This is much more exciting,” Athena says.

Bobby chuckles. “Any chance Athena gets to take down a couple of alpha’s, she jumps for it,”

“Well, we should get you guys home. Do you need a ride, Lena?” Buck asks.

“No, I’ve got my car. Thank you though, Buck,” she says. She gently places her hand on Eddie’s arm. “We’ll have to continue this another day. Maybe we can choose a nice restaurant or something more omega-friendly.”

Eddie instantly cringes at ‘omega-friendly’. “God, Lena. Please don’t use that term around me,”

Lena cackles, and thanks Athena and Bobby, before heading out.

Buck chuckles softly as he watches Lena. “She’s always been an interesting character, hasn’t she?”

Eddie lets out a sigh. “Apparently I attract interesting characters-” He looks over at Buck.

“Hey, don’t look at me like that,” Buck playfully shoves Eddie, before gently wrapping an arm around him, and Eddie hates that he instantly melts into Buck’s touch. Buck looks over at Bobby and Athena. “Hey, thanks for helping, guys. I’m going to go ahead and get Eddie home.”

Bobby nods. “You’ll message us as soon as you’re home safely?”

“Of course,” Buck says, nodding, before leading the way out of the bar. “Mine or yours?”

“I’ve got a kid,” Eddie reminds him.

Buck lets go of Eddie, who almost whines at the loss of touch, but stops himself. Buck sends a text to Carla, asking if she can keep Christopher for the night, and she instantly replies with us. “That’s sorted.” Buck shows the message to Eddie.

“I don’t pay that woman enough,” Eddie mumbles. “So, yours?”

“Yes,” Buck confirms, leading the way over to his car. It doesn’t take very long to make it to Buck’s place, although Eddie’s a little worried about what’s about to happen. Buck hasn’t said much on the way home.

“Do you want anything to drink? Water?” Buck asks.

“No thanks, but can I take a quick shower, please? I smell like alpha, and I don’t like it,” Eddie complains.

Buck sniffs once, before making a face. “Yeah, you do. Go on. You can borrow some of my clothes,”

“Thanks,” Eddie says, and heads straight to Buck’s room.

Buck makes himself comfortable at the kitchen counter while he waits for Eddie to finish with his shower.

When Eddie finally comes back out, he looks and smells, a lot better than before.

“Better?” Buck asks fondly.

“Better,” Eddie sighs in relief. “God, alpha’s are stupid. No offense.”

“No, I agree with you, Eds. Alpha’s are stupid. I hate that there are so many bad ones, because it makes all the good ones look bad too. It just sucks that society isn’t where it should be,” Buck mumbles.

Eddie nods in agreement. “But, we’re getting there,”

“We’re getting there,” Buck lets out a sigh, and then he turns to look at Eddie. “You scared me tonight.”

“I’m sorry. I just- I knew you’d be there as soon as I called you. I knew you’d protect me,” Eddie says.

“Of course. I’ll always be there to protect you,” Buck says, before pushing himself off of the stool, and walking over to Eddie. “You’re my best friend. But, the fact that you’re an unbonded omega scares me more than anything. Eddie, I want to be able to protect you all the time.”

Eddie stares at Buck with wide eyes. “Buck, what are you saying?”

“I’m in love with you, Eddie,” Buck whispers. “I have been since the moment I laid eyes on you.”

“There’s no way. You hated me when we first met each other, what are you talking about?” Eddie asks, raising his eyebrows. “It took us weeks before we were comfortable with each other.”

Buck chuckles, and shakes his head. “Are you kidding me, Eds? Come on. That was just pretend, okay? You were a new omega on the team, and I knew you weren’t going to be like most omega’s. No offense-” He quickly adds. “So, I just, uh, pretended to hate you so you wouldn’t know how I really felt towards you. Of course, that didn’t last very long, did it?”

“No, you’re quite terrible,” Eddie grins.

“Shut up,” Buck shoves him playfully, but he keeps his grip on Eddie’s shoulder. “I know how you feel-”

“About what?” Eddie asks, taking a deep breath.

“Alpha’s in general. But, please, Eddie. Please give me a chance,” Buck begs. “I want to be your alpha.”

“Fuck,” Eddie curses. “I can’t even pretend that I haven’t thought about you being my alpha. That’s-”

“I’ve thought about you being my omega since we met, I just didn’t want to pressure you,” Buck whispers. “Or, make you feel uncomfortable around me.”

“Buck, stop. I would want nothing more than for you to be my alpha,” Eddie says, grinning when Buck lets out a sigh of relief. “I’m tired of hiding how I really feel about you.”

“Thank you,” Buck breathes, before pulling Eddie into a tight hug. “You won’t regret this.”

“I know I won’t,” Eddie mumbles as he buries his face in Buck’s chest. “We have to talk to Christopher.”

Buck chuckles softly. “Please. Christopher loves me. That’s not going to be a problem,”

“We’re going to get a lot of shit from the others,” Eddie adds, and laughs when Buck pauses.

“Shit,” Buck curses, and gently pulls away from the hug. “What’s new? They’ve been teasing us for years about getting together. You know, that whole Buddie thing they’ve got going around.”

“Buddie?” Eddie questions. “What the hell is Buddie?”

Buck laughs. “Oh, you really are oblivious. That’s so cute,”

Eddie grumbles. “You know what? I changed my mind. Ugh. I don’t want you to be my alpha anymore!” He starts to walk away, but yelps when Buck pulls him back. “Buck.” He whines.

“You love me,” Buck whispers as he wraps his arms around Eddie from behind.

“Yeah,” Eddie lets out a sigh, and glances up at Buck. “Unfortunately for me, I do. But, I guess I can live with that.”
