And Eddie, as stated, already cannot breathe. When he does try to breathe, he’s sucking in burning flames. So it takes a minute to register that the nice man who just saved his baby’s life is - - fuck. Of course. Of course, it’s his hot new neighbor.
Or, Eddie is injured. He also has a toddler. His next door neighbor keeps them alive.

"Buck," Eddie tests the name out. Buck. He likes that name. It sounds good, warm and safe and comfortingly familiar on his tongue. "You're my husband."
Buck's eyes widen, obviously surprised that Eddie remembered that. See, look? He's recovering remarkably quickly. He'll have his full memory back in no time.
"Your husband," Buck repeats and Chris, for some reason, starts giggling.
"My husband," Eddie agrees happily.

She didn’t watch Eddie Diaz wait for days in the doorway of a hospital room, watching with his sad, wet fucking cow eyes for Buck to realise his feelings for someone else.
She didn’t spend the last several years watching and waiting with bated breath for the day they’d arrive at one of the family barbecues not just together, but together, for Evan Fucking Buckley to go and make out with a guy that isn’t Eddie Fucking Diaz.
