Summary
When Calista Ellington is sent to live with an estranged relative who's name she doesn't even know, she wonders what it is that made the Captain agree. No one seems to know anything about him but to her parents, his days in the army can guarantee them the strict warden they're looking for to give her the proper discipline they've been desperate for.
Or
When the Captain's cousin reaches out and asks him to look after their child for a while, he's unsure why he agrees.
He has no experience with children after all, but apparently it's discipline they're after, rather than the kindness of a father figure, and thanks to his army days he's got discipline and leadership skills by the bucket load.
But Calista arrives, and is nothing like he expected. She may be short-tempered and argumentative and unapologetically...different in a way that makes him nervous for reasons he can't quite pin down, but besides that, he's unsure why exactly she's been sent to him.
Maybe, just maybe, this will be a learning opportunity for both of them.
