Dust settled on the broken remains of what was once your home
Your safety.
But
None of that mattered now
You heard your voice, exiting your body, screaming a name
You felt yourself running, running into the damage
There were dangers from a broken home
But you didn't care
You didn't see her leave.
There was a crunch beneath your feet, you felt a moment of pain
Of heat.
The candle, now snuffed, was nothing more than a holder
Not even melted wax remained
Tears filled your eyes as you bent down
You saw what was in front of you, underneath the only remaining rubble.
This hand was filled with warmth once.
Joy was attached to it
Love was attached to it
Now the heat fades, not amount of holding will do
Not even hot tears warm the flesh
Flesh
That's all she is now.
What once was a loving daughter, a child who deserved the world
Who was the world, part of it
Gone.
You don't remember being carried away
Or were you dragged away?
There was tears.
You heard someone scream and cry
You wished, for that moment, to comfort that person
Until you realized that person was you.
A guttural, furious sobbing
Only the sobbing a loving mother could give
These was comfort, arms wrapped around you
Words, falling on deaf ears
Touch
Love
Unrecognized.
What was the point of love anymore?
Did it even matter?
Love doesn't bring someone back, no matter how hard you try
Your powers
Your miracle.
It can't heal a broken heart
It can't heal those broken beyond repair.
What miracle was this?
There was no damn miracle
Not anymore
Your children are your miracles
And one candle just stuffed out
Forever.
