Steve walked out of the elevator with Tony on what he'd been told was the community space. He stood there not knowing what to do or say when he was faced with Hawkeye spooning the Black Widow on the sofa with his hand on Natasha's pregnant belly.
"I can't believe you didn't warn Cap," Clint said, noticing Steve's reaction.
"About what?" Tony asked.
Clint pointed at his and Phil's baby growing in his best friend's belly.
Tony looked at Clint like he'd grown a second head as he held up his hand waiting to be invited.
"Be my guest," Natasha said.
Tony placed his hand on Clint's baby and marveled as usual when he was kicked back. "Is she ever going to come out and be interesting?" Tony asked.
"You are going to be so disappointed, Tony," Clint said, "when she takes after me and is completely ordinary."
"There is no way that Miss Barton is going to be anything but fascinating," Tony said, "not with you and Agent being her daddies and being hatched by the Black Widow. "It's impossible."
"He has a point," Natasha said.
Tony took his hand off the Widow's baby bump and placed it on his arch reactor wondering what he'd done to deserve Natasha's approval.
Steve couldn't take his eyes off of Bruce when he came in and leaned over Natasha, kissing her on the forehead and checking her pulse.
"I don't have a fever, Doc," Natasha said.
"How are you?" Bruce asked.
"I think she's going to play football," Natasha said.
"She means soccer," Clint said.
"Heathen," Natasha said.
Steve felt helpless. In his day, pregnancy was a private, family affair.
"Would you like to feel her kick?" Natasha asked, holding out her hand toward Steve.
"Are you sure it's okay," Steve asked.
"With permission," Natasha said.
Steve placed his hand on Natasha's belly and stared at her when he felt, what he assumed to be the baby, kicking his hand."I don't know what to say," Steve said.
"I'll settle for you helping me upright," Natasha said.
"Are you alright?" Clint, Tony and Bruce all asked together.
"You people are ridiculous" Natasha said. "I just need to be in a new position and possibly go pee."
"What do I do?" Steve asked.
"We got her," Tony said as he leaned over so Natasha could put her arm around his neck and lean forward so Clint had room to sit up and go over the back of the couch, giving Natasha more room to sit upright with the help of Tony and Bruce.
"Thank you, Natasha said.
"Are you sure you're okay?" Clint asked, coming around to sit next to Natasha on the couch.
"You have to stop worrying so much," Natasha said. "I'm just very pregnant and I think my spooning days on the sofa are over until Phil's and your daughter decides to make an appearance.
"I'm going to miss being your pillow," Clint said.
"You can always come over and replace my body pillow at night," Natasha said.
"That can be arranged," Clint said, wrapping his arm around Natasha's neck and kissing her temple.
Steve hoped sooner or later that all his questions would get answered. Even after being out of the ice for over a year, this century was a mystery to him.
