Work Text:
Later, Zhao Yunlan tries to ask Shen Wei about the dragon thing. He probably asks the wrong question because all Shen Wei really tells him is that Yashou respect dragons. And okay, that makes sense, as far as Zhu Hong is concerned (and maybe Da Qing too), but that still doesn't really explain much of anything.
"And Lao Chu?" Zhao Yunlan asks, with a raised eyebrow.
The tiny dragon looks up at him with large eyes and Zhao Yunlan's heart kind of lurches. He has to wonder if Shen Wei does that on purpose. Shen Wei rubs his head against the side of Zhao Yunlan's thumb and for a moment he kind of forgets what he was even asking.
Shen Wei makes a thoughtful hum and says, "Chu Shuzhi is very respectful."
Zhao Yunlan should probably try to ask more questions, because that tells him exactly nothing (and in Zhao Yunlan's experience the words 'Chu Shuzhi' and 'respectful' don't exactly go together) but Shen Wei is still rubbing his head against Zhao Yunlan's fingers and now his whole body is vibrating with a contented purr. Zhao Yunlan uses his other hand to stroke along his back.
"Xiao Wei…" Zhao Yunlan's voice comes out a bit strangled and he has to clear his throat before he can continue. "Could you please transform?"
Shen Wei tilts his head back and looks up at him and then in the next moment, Zhao Yunlan has a fully grown man in his lap, straddling his thighs. Shen Wei's hands come up to hold the sides of his face, pushing Zhao Yunlan against the backrest as he kisses him.
It seems like Shen Wei really does get used to the SID, or at least he starts going with Zhao Yunlan to work when he has the time. Usually, he spends the time on Zhao Yunlan's shoulders or coiled around Zhao Yunlan's arm, either napping or making very useful comments on whatever case they're trying to figure out.
Shen Wei is surprisingly knowledgeable about certain things, and he also happens to be really damn smart. Zhao Yunlan is ridiculously proud of his boyfriend. And maybe that occasionally manifests as him cooing at the tiny dragon and probably making kissy faces at him without realising while petting him.
Well, anyway, Zhao Yunlan suspects that his behaviour might be somewhat to blame for what happens. For once Shen Wei isn't lounging on Zhao Yunlan and is instead resting against Da Qing on top of the table in the middle of the SID headquarters in the most adorable tangle of cat and dragon. Somehow, Zhao Yunlan never quite realises how, Guo Changcheng ends up petting him. Zhao Yunlan isn't entirely sure if Guo Changcheng realised what he was doing, but the first thing that alerts anyone else to what is going on is when Guo Changcheng makes a terrified yelp, quickly stumbling away from the table.
Shen Wei has reared up above Da Qing and hissing, the sound surprisingly vicious. Da Qing has gone all tense but isn't actually moving at all. Before Zhao Yunlan can quite get to them, the hissing cuts off quite abruptly. He can see Shen Wei's eyes going wide and his posture slumping down a bit. He bumps his head against the side of Da Qing's head in what looks like some kind of quiet apology, before quickly disentangling himself from the cat.
At that point, both Zhao Yunlan and Chu Shuzhi have gotten close. Chu Shuzhi grabs the back of Guo Changcheng's shirt, keeping him in place, growling quietly. Zhao Yunlan looks at Shen Wei, trying to quietly ask if he wants to be picked up. Shen Wei makes a small shake of his head and walks closer to the edge of the table, towards Guo Changcheng.
"My apologies, daren," Chu Shuzhi says gravely like it's somehow his fault. He bows at Shen Wei, forcing Guo Changcheng to do the same, with a hand firmly at the back of his neck.
"I- I'm sorry," Guo Changcheng stammers out, still bent over.
"Please, there's no need for that," Shen Wei says quickly. Chu Shuzhi slowly straightens up, letting Guo Changcheng do the same. The kid is anxiously wringing his hands together and not quite managing to look at Shen Wei. "You startled me. I don't mind… being petted," Shen Wei says. The words start out surprisingly gentle, but then turn all awkward by the end, like Shen Wei has trouble actually saying the words.
Zhao Yunlan feels his eyebrows rise a little at that, aside from himself and Da Qing Shen Wei has never gotten into touching distance of anyone, not as a dragon. He wonders if Shen Wei means it or if he's just trying to make Guo Changcheng feel better; the kid looks so miserable that he wouldn't be surprised if Shen Wei was feeling guilty.
There's a long, awkward silence and Zhao Yunlan wonders if he should say something to break the tension. Before he can, Shen Wei says, "You can come closer." He's back to sounding all gentle again, and Zhao Yunlan feels an irrational spike of jealousy.
He shares a quick look with Da Qing, who looks a bit disgruntled too. There's a moment of quiet understanding between the two of them. Shen Wei is theirs, and having him suddenly want someone else to pet him feels… strange. Zhao Yunlan isn't going to say anything though, because Shen Wei is certainly free to do what he wants. He has to tell himself that quite firmly. A couple of times.
Guo Changcheng looks at Chu Shuzhi like he's asking for permission or something. Chu Shuzhi frowns and pushes him forward. He's surprisingly gentle about it, but possibly he's just worried that otherwise Guo Changcheng will stumble and crash right into the table Shen Wei is currently on.
Guo Changcheng shuffles forward until he's standing right at the edge of the table. Zhao Yunlan bites his lip as Shen Wei keeps looking at Guo Changcheng expectantly. Zhao Yunlan is familiar enough with the tiny dragon by now, that he can see how tightly his whole body is held, muscles coiled tight and ready to spring at any moment. No, Shen Wei is definitely not relaxed about all of this.
Guo Changcheng reaches out with a trembling hand, looking like he really just wants to be anywhere else right now. And okay, Zhao Yunlan can't really blame the kid for that. This whole thing has turned into a whole production, all of the SID staring at them by now.
Guo Changcheng's fingers end up hovering just above Shen Wei like he's afraid to actually close that small distance and touch the dragon. Shen Wei sighs slightly, rearing up a bit and then just rubbing his head against Guo Changcheng's fingers. Zhao Yunlan has to firmly push down another flare of jealousy.
Tentatively, Guo Changcheng rubs the top of Shen Wei's head for a moment, and then pulls his hand away, looking both relieved and kind of charmed.
"I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to wake you up," Guo Changcheng whispers.
"And I didn't mean to snap at you like that," Shen Wei answers him, just a bit stiffly. Guo Changcheng flinches a bit. "Perhaps, next time, ask me first," Shen Wei suggests rather gently.
It's mostly by accident that Zhao Yunlan catches the look Chu Shuzhi gives Guo Changcheng at that moment. There's a bit of awe there and something… Oh, well… Zhao Yunlan is very happy for Guo Changcheng, he supposes—he's seen Chu Shuzhi shirtless.
"A-alright," Guo Changcheng stammers. "I'll just… I…" he says, and Zhao Yunlan is pretty sure even the kid doesn't know what he's trying to say.
Chu Shuzhi ends up saving him, by excusing both of them and pulling Guo Changcheng away.
Zhao Yunlan gives everyone else a look and quickly enough everyone scatters to do whatever they should be doing instead of gawking at the tiny dragon. He holds out a hand to Shen Wei, and Shen Wei sags a bit in relief, before quickly surging forwards and wrapping himself around Zhao Yunlan's forearm.
Zhao Yunlan rubs the top of his head gently. "I'll be in my office," he says to no one in particular.
He reaches out to pat Da Qing in passing, before heading towards his office.
