Chapter Text
Before the quirks came, there is a legend about a god, being the most powerful and powerless at the same time.
He was considered the oldest for the experiences he had. He is the most powerful because he created the world. He was the most powerless because all he can do is to watch everything, having no ability to intervene.
And Midoriya Izuku, thinks that he is almost the same as that god, except that he doesn’t even have powers.
The sunlight glares down at his existence, as he picked up the book that he was reading earlier before Kacchan exploded it.
Ever since his mom got imprisoned, he got hooked on reading fantasy books. They were great in distracting his mind and honing his analytical ability too because if he is being honest, this world full of quirks is nothing but a mere fantasy, people were given powers and uses them for their own interest.
Izuku is nothing like the people in this world. He doesn’t have a quirk. At best, the skill he can proudly boast is that he can read and absorb information fast, then use his analytical ability to apply it to the real world. That’s it. He has an innate ability, but he was unlucky enough to be born without a quirk.
At the age of fifteen, Izuku felt that he lived long enough to see the dark side of this world. The discrimination, the villains, the corruption, almost everything.
He was called a quirkless freak for not having a quirk. He was called the son of a villain when news got out that his mom killed his dad. He was bullied or ignored by everyone, all because he lacks that specific power they have.
In an interview for a newspaper, his mom tried to clear things up for Izuku, saying that she was the one who planned his father’s death, but things turned quite ugly because the words she spouted got used against him.
His father is quite a famous hero after all and the fans that were grieving used this chance to hound his poor son. The interview basically confirmed to the public that it was his own wife that killed him and because of that, his mother is branded as a villain because she killed her abusive husband. The son that now lives on his own, is known as the son of the villain by everyone else.
Izuku wanted to scream to the world for making his life miserable. If only they knew, that the hero they were worshiping is such an abusive person, would they still defend him?
The green-haired boy sighed as he walked to his home. He tried to still read the book he was holding even though some of the words are unreadable at his point. He was too immersed in trying to read his book that he didn’t notice that the manhole behind him burst open. He heard someone saying something, so he turned around, but a green slime engulfed him instead, trying to shove itself into his throat.
The slime was saying something, but Izuku can’t hear it at all because he was getting out of breath. Finally, he closed his eyes and tried to accept his fate…
Except that the slime that was engulfing him exploded and he was sent flying to the ground.
------
“Young man…Young Man!”
He felt someone slapping his face and opened his eyes. He saw the visage of All Might, and instead of panicking, he thought that this was a dream, so he closed his eyes again.
Except that he felt something rising from his throat, so he immediately opened his eyes again and sat up, hacking up the disgusting sludge that was left inside his lungs.
The hero in front of him crouched before rubbing his back to comfort him, and Izuku might have thanked him if he hadn’t felt like he was dying.
“I’m glad that you are now okay, young man! But I’m afraid that I must go, so you should take care from here!” All Might’s voice booms as he prepares to take off to the sky, but before he can even fly away, Izuku mustered all his strength to throw his bag to the hero to get his attention.
It was successful because it hit right in the hero’s head. The man turned around, a little annoyed.
Izuku can’t even breathe properly, but he was glad that he was still able to speak.
“I…need medical…attention…All Might. Please call…them.” He said, pausing once in a while because he was still having a hard time breathing.
Well shit, it seems that there is still some sludge in his lungs.
The hero’s finger twitched in irritation, but Izuku doesn’t care about his time constraints.
“Can’t you take care of that yourself, young man? I am afraid I don't have much time.” The hero asked, irritation apparent in his tone. Izuku rolled his eyes. He wanted to laugh at himself, is this really his favorite hero?
“No…besides…why are you…ignoring protocol? Heroes must prioritize civilians’ safety, so…why are…you flying away…if it is clear…that I’m not okay?” He coughed again, releasing that remaining sludge from his lungs. The green sludge landed on the ground, along with his spit.
All Might’s eyes widened like saucers, before nodding to Izuku, complying with his wishes, and got his phone from his pocket to call the emergency services.
Izuku continued to cough until finally all of the sludge seems to be expelled out of his body because now he can breathe easier. The green-haired boy thanked the hero again and All Might told him that it was nothing, waving his hand in dismissal.
The hero posed to fly away again and Izuku felt a panic surge in him. He still has a question for All Might! Hence, before he can fly away, Izuku immediately spouted his question that he wanted to be answered by this hero.
“All Might, can someone quirkless become a hero?”
The hero stilled from his position, before looking back at him grimly. And Izuku felt his resolve slowly crumbling.
“No. I don’t think you can, young man.” He shook his head before giving Izuku a solemn look. “I cannot just say you can be a hero without power. Being a pro with a quirk is already difficult, and dangerous. Doing it without a quirk will surely get you killed. Maybe you can become a cop or a doctor if you want to help people. It’s okay to dream, but you need to be realistic.”
As if the thin glass that was framing Izuku’s fragile lenses of hope shattered, Izuku nodded at him, accepting what he said. A self-deprecating smile appeared on his face, bowing his head slightly to the man in gratitude.
“Thank you. And please, secure your pockets before flying away. They seem quite loose and the villain might escape.”
The hero’s eyes immediately looked to his pockets, and indeed it was quite loose. The man chuckled, it was great that the boy noticed it, or else this villain will wreak havoc once again. All Might secured his pockets, before giving the boy again a once-over.
“Alright. Then I must go, young man. Take care now!” The hero finally flew to the sky, leaving Izuku on the cold ground of the tunnel.
Ha…in the end, it was futile to hope for his dreams.
Izuku sat there for an incredibly long time waiting for the emergency services, but he doesn’t mind because his mind wandered somewhere else.
He thought of his experiences throughout his life, and all he can think of is the abuse and torment he received from this awful and cruel world. He can’t do anything but just watch everything happen to him, unable to even interfere or fight against the fate that was forced into him.
So…what he will do now?
His mother is in prison. His only friend became his bully. His dream got crushed by the hero he thought will give him hope. He had nothing in this world that is worth living for...so why not leave it instead?
There was once a book he read, that the person killed himself and got transmigrated to another worldline where he became happy, so maybe if he was lucky, he will get transmigrated too.
A smile appeared once again on his face, this time, he was set on gaining his freedom away from this world.
After he was checked by the medics and was permitted to go home, he walked to his home and immediately climbed the stairs to the rooftop of the apartment complex he was currently staying.
Once he reached the top, he dumped his schoolbag near the railing. And leaned on the wall first to admire the view of the beautiful sunset that was presented to him before he dies, then leaned on the railing to see the height of the building he was falling.
He hopes that this height will kill him.
He hopes that someone will save him.
Izuku stared down the railing before a bitter laugh tore out of his throat.
There was no salvation for quirkless people like him.
Except for this leap of faith.
So, with an unlucky smile on his face and some tears falling from his eyes, Izuku jumped from the building.
He was falling really quick and he immediately lost consciousness.
Before he can splatter to the ground though, a light cradled his body, engulfing him with a feeling of safety and warmth.
Izuku thought, 'this was a nice way to die.'
Just as the light banished, Izuku too, disappeared.
