Peter is the only son of a Lord.
He isn't... exactly a damsel in distress.
He is actually living in a very happy castle with a loving family. In fact his new Stepmother is very sweet and supporting.
That is the problem.
If only Peter had a cruel, wicked Stepmother. Then maybe he could attract the attention of a fairy godparent. Then, maybe, he could finally find his handsome prince.
Thanks to Sinditia for the suggestion. What followed after, well, I have only my twisted imagination and obscure knowledge of Medieval marriage laws to blame.
By the way, what I wrote about Godparents is completely true. For a long time the Church considered your godparents to be blood relatives, as well as everyone in their family. Which is to say, intermarriage with your Godparents, or anyone in their family, was the same as straight-up incest.
Weird, hu?
