At a standstill (he just can’t stand still)

Summary:

Izuku sometimes watched the moon. Even though it never moves from that spot behind that bunny shaped cloud.

Sometimes Izuku smiled and talked around his classmates and Aizawa even though they would never respond.

Work Text:

Sometimes Izuku just watched the moon for hours.

Sometimes Izuku smiled and talked around his classmates and Aizawa about the book he had just read or how it was dumb that so many things in French were feminine or masculine.

Sometimes Izuku cried silently, because he couldn’t be too loud or it would give him a headache. So he just sat or walked or read as tears streamed down his face.

Sometimes Izuku read cookbooks and tried to follow along with the paragraph. When he started it all seemed to be somewhat brown sludge. Now, he was almost on par with Kacchan with his cooking skills.

Sometimes Izuku combed through the library and checked off all the books that were there from the catalogue. Those that weren’t, he tried to find around the school or dorms.

Sometimes Izuku wandered around the streets of Japan and looked in shops and stores. He became a master at learning where he was and if he was dropped pretty much anywhere in Japan, he could tell exactly where he was.

Sometimes Izuku sat with the League of Villains, just watching Dabi’s turquoise eyes, or maybe admired Toga’s knives, or patted Shigaraki’s hair because god knows he is probably touch starved.

Sometimes Izuku shot arrows at targets all day, and sometimes he practiced with Aizawa-Sensei’s capture weapon, and sometimes he worked on a car he was building from scratch and sometimes he ate and sometimes he starved and sometimes he sat still for a whole day and sometimes he carved lines with a knife up and down his arms just to hear himself scream so that he knows he isn’t in a dream.

And sometimes he looks at a bundle of rope in a home improvement store and sometimes he looks at the anti depressants in the pharmacy and sometimes he looks at tall buildings. And sometimes he grabs the rope and sometimes he takes the little orange bottle and sometimes he sits on those building.

But every time, he goes back to UA, and grins at Uraraka, hugs Todoroki, sits in his assigned seats for class, and cowers because Aizawa-Sensei is probably going to threaten to expel them again.

Because he knows that if he jumps off a roof or is strangled by a rope or falls unconscious in his bed, Uraraka will never giggle again, Iida will never chop his hands again, Todoroki will never awkwardly use a meme again, Shinsou will never be sarcastic with him again, Aizawa-Sensei will never scowl again.

They are all frozen. And if Izuku doesn’t do his French, or practice his archery, or go to class everyday, he would go mad and then who would unfreeze them?

Izuku sometimes watched the moon. Even though it never moves from that spot behind that bunny shaped cloud.

Sometimes Izuku smiled and talked around his classmates and Aizawa even though they would never respond.
