Twin Fangs

Summary:

Kakashi found his nunchucks for him.

Work Text:

“It was hard to find these in the wreckage, you know.”

Guy moved the nunchucks around to adjust his grip. His Twin Fangs. As his fingers curled around the shaft, a sudden warmth flooded through him.

The familiar weight in his hands felt nice. The heft and feel was undeniably perfect in his palms, even with all the new scars. He hadn’t held a weapon since the war, but with his sharp muscle memory, it seemed like it was just yesterday; once learned, never forgotten. He swung the chains to test his strength, and he loved the sound of the nunchucks slicing through the air. He smiled sheepishly when he accidentally swung them in Kakashi’s direction, but Kakashi dodged deftly.

“I considered getting you new ones, but I decided against it. I know how much that pair means to you,” Kakashi continued, not missing a beat. “I knew these had to have survived, so I wanted to get them back for you. I tore through the whole battlefield trying to find them. Even had my ninken help me track them down.” Fidgeting, Kakashi glanced off to the side and lowered his gaze. His voice was so soft that Guy had to strain to hear him. “They’re supposed to be as stubbornly unbreakable as you, right? Guess that was true after all.”

Guy hummed as he ran a thumb along the detailed pattern in the hilts, designed in the image of dragons as mighty as Guy. These weapons had been custom-made, extremely deliberate in their crafting, forged specifically for his hands to wield, honed and tempered in countless battles. They were nigh-indestructible—they had to be, to match Guy’s raw power and wild fighting style.

They had been a surprise gift for when Guy first became a jonin. From the instant Guy first received them, he knew no other weapon would compare for him. Guy disliked using bladed weapons and needed something flexible and fast. These were quintessentially him.

And now, to be surprised with them again, so many years later! It almost made Guy feel like he was still that newly promoted young man, ready to face the world. A slow smile spread across Guy’s face, and Kakashi grinned back.

“I love them just as much as I did the day you first gave them to me.”
