Chapter Text
"Life is full of people who mark you in some way, sometimes for the worse and many times for the better, sometimes they are just passing through to teach you something, or sometimes they stay and make a difference."
Kara Danvers, have 25 years old and lived in National City, she had grown up in a town called Midvale with her parents and her sister, at the age of 21 she moved and had a job at Catco as an assistant to Cat Grant, that is what she dedicated her life, she didn't have a perfect life but she couldn't complain, her sister works as a police officer in National City and they see each other almost very often, every vacation they both visit their parents and Kara stays in Midvale for a while to breathe clean air and pure, something you can hardly do in the city.
She was always a very sporty girl. She loved soccer, running on the shore of the lake and feeling how the air hit her face. That was one of the most wonderful sensations she could experience, she also loved climbing and riding a bicycle.
But one day when she went out for a run in the morning she felt weird, as if something was pressing on his chest and not letting her breathe. At first she didn't care, but the tiredness sometimes after that became constant. It was when she was 16 years old when in a routine medical check-up for the soccer team they detected something strange in her heart, and that's where her life changed... or so she thought.
(March 2010. Midvale)
“Miss Danvers, my favorite patient.”
Doctor Brandon was the family doctor, he had known her since she and her sister were little, his parents and he were good friends, he was always a nice guy, very handsome, tall, brown hair, brown eyes and a unique sense of humor , it would be a lie if she said that she didn't have a crush on him once when she was younger, but then she grew up and her tastes became much more refined, so now she was there after the exams she had to take to school, waiting for her results.
"Hello Doc," she said in a slightly bored tone as he sat down on her desk across from her.
“Well, Kara, I have the results here, but before I give them to you, I need to ask you something. Have you been exercising a lot lately? Heavier routines, extraordinary effort? “ He asked, looking at her face with a serious face.
“mmm no, the same as always, soccer practices at school, running in the mornings and some cycling with Alex, nothing out of the ordinary.”
“And have you felt strange after any of these activities?”
"Strange? ... mmm, like tired in excess?" she asked, knowing what she was referring to.
“So indeed if you have felt something..”. he replied with a smile
“Yes, well, only that, but I guess it's normal, with school and sports, stress.”
"Well, it's likely, but I've noticed something strange and I'd like to examine it in more detail in your cardiac tests."
“Strange as bad?” Kara stiffened her back asking uneasily.
“That's why I wanted to review better and do more tests. Do you think you can come with your parents tomorrow?” He made a prescription and gave it to her.
“Pfff okay” she sighed resignedly and she left.
Later at home her mother was preparing dinner while she helped set the table and Alex was in the living room with her father watching a soccer game.
"Mom Dr. Brandon wants me to come in early tomorrow for other tests and he wants you and dad to come with me," she said without any expression as she put the plates away.
Her mom glanced back at her daughter quickly before she stopped mixing the salad.
“ Something happened honey?” she said in a worried tone as she approached a little
“I don't think so, '' he said that only needed to do the studies again and others to check that everything was fine.
"Okay, I'll call work and say I'll be a little later, now go call Dad and Alex for dinner."
“Dad, Alex, dinner!”
"I could have screamed too, you know?" Kara shrugged and her mother smiled at her giving her a kiss on the head.

When they arrived at the clinic, they immediately had her do other resistance tests and an electrocardiogram, they were somewhat heavy, so she already felt tired.
“Good morning, Jeremiah, Eliza, Kara.” Brandon entered his office with some papers in hand, where they were already sitting.
“Here I have the results of Kara. Yesterday we did the routine tests that they ask for soccer practices and when reviewing them I noticed something that I did not like in Kara's heart, that's why I asked you to come and do other tests.” He said that with a serious countenance as he alternated his gaze on the three of them.
"What do you mean?" Jeremiah asked, a little worried.
“The electrocardiograms showed a small deficiency in Kara's heart, for that reason yesterday I asked you if lately you had felt tired or fatigued or had you had any discomfort.” he turned to Kara when he said the last.
“Kara's heart is growing a little more than normal and her blood is not circulating as it should, that is causing her to become fatigued, have difficulty breathing and sometimes have some minimal pain.”
Her parents looked very concerned as she just stared at the doctor thoughtlessly.
“Is that something very serious Doc?”
“It is something called dilated cardiomyopathy, this damages the muscle tissue that makes up the pumping cavities of the heart. If these become too weak, the heart cannot pump normally, and the stretching of the heart muscle causes the heart to enlarge, or dilate. The long-term effects of cardiomegaly are not good because the heart will try to increase its rate to pump more blood to the body. And when the heart can't contract properly, it affects circulation and leads to a buildup of fluid in the lungs, upper abdomen, and legs. This buildup of fluid makes it hard to breathe.”
“Wow, that does sound very serious.” she said, looking at the doctor and sighing.
“We have detected it in time Kara and that is a very good thing because we can give a treatment to prevent your heart from deteriorating and thus avoid a possible transplant, but you will have to slow down your activities.”
“What precautions should be taken and what are the risks of this? “ Eliza finally spoke, very concerned
“For now, as I already mentioned, you have to slow down the activities that can cause you fatigue, for example we must suspend heavy exercise for a while, and maybe soccer is not a good option for the moment Kara. She will also have to follow a diet and be observed regularly.”
She let out a mocking laugh “So I have to change my whole life completely…”
Give up soccer? Diet? This couldn't be happening, she thought.
“I'm very sorry Kara, we're going to give you medication that you'll have to take daily and it's true that your lifestyle is going to change a lot, but all this is for your own good.” the doctor said, taking her hand.
Resigned and after receiving instructions about the medications and the regular appointments that she was going to have from now on, they left the clinic, her parents were worried and sad just like her, but if there was one thing they were sure of, it was that Kara would always have support
Leaving the team and talking to her friends and teachers about her condition was not easy, much less adjusting to stop doing the things she loved, there were days when she hated all this, and she was sure that from now on her life would not be the same. same in no way...

Present, National City
“Alex, what are you doing this afternoon? I have free time and I was thinking Pizza and movies in my apartment. What do you say?” She was walking down the avenue while she was on the phone with her sister.
"Little sister, I can't this afternoon, one of my partners was injured and I'm in charge of an operation, don't hate me." Alex replied and Kara could imagine her pouting.
“Okay, don't worry, it's nothing dangerous, right?”
"Calm down, it's just something routine, hey, don't forget your appointment, have you already bought your medicine?" She said, raising her voice a little
“Yes mom, my appointment is tomorrow morning and in fact now I'm going to the pharmacy for the medicine” She rolled her eyes smiling.
“Hey, mom kills me if I'm not looking out for you, so shut up, do you still have your oxygen and inhaler at hand?”
"Alex calm down, you know I haven't needed it in a long time, but I always have them at home, okay?" She said in a calm voice.
Alex has always been very concerned about her, when she decided to leave Midvale to make a different life, she asked for a change in her job to be close, that made her parents feel calm, although of course at first they did not like the idea for her to move in alone but they knew she had to lead her normal life.
A few months after she moved in, she had a bad attack. It was the first time that she needed oxygen and Alex was scared to death seeing that nothing like this had ever happened before, the medicines had done their job but the daily activities and stress had caused a strong relapse.
After that it was no longer necessary, because she tried to lead a quiet life despite her work, she controlled the pressures and tried to relax when necessary.
“Okay Sis then I'll call you at night when I get back home. Take care of yourself, I love you!”
"Okay, I love you too, bye." She hung up and kept walking towards the pharmacy and then back to Catco.
“Miss Grant, here are the reports you asked for and your cup of tea, do you need anything else?”
"That's all Kara you can go, oh before you go, take..." She handed her an envelope as she sat down at her desk.
“It's a courtesy ticket to a theater event tonight, they gave it to me but you know that those things bore me a lot, I prefer something more modern.”
“Wow! It's a classical music concert, great! Thank you very much Miss Grant.” Her eyes shone with emotion, Kara loved music, it was one of her passions and she had always wanted to attend one of those concerts.
“It's good that you like it, take advantage of your free afternoon and go get pretty.” she applauded, looking at the papers that she had in her hand, very concentrated on her.
“See you tomorrow boss.”
She walked out to go home to get ready. She was excited about going to that concert, Alex would be busy and so this was just what she needed, to go out and change the routine. She did not imagine that that night her life was going to take a completely different course again and that nothing would ever be the same...
The theater was still half empty, very elegant people and a bit pretentious for her taste, she found her seat and waited for the concert to start.

It had been a long time since Lena had a date, her life and time was for her work. Running a company was not an easy thing, when his father died he left everything in the hands of his brother, but he decided to use that power for his own benefit by doing bad business with the wrong people and as expected he ended up in jail, so after that she had to take over the family estate.
Her mother only enjoyed the luxuries and benefits that the company provided without even worrying about stopping by from time to time to see if she needed help, her relationship was very distant so it wasn't like she really missed spending time with her.
So she has always been a lonely woman, the only person who has been with her since she moved to National City is Sam, her best friend, she has been her partner and right hand in all this adventure since she is in charge of L -Corp and in fact she was to blame for being there right now next to that boy who doesn't even remember his name, although she had to give Sam points because at least he was very handsome but still she didn't really feel well to sit here, listening to the soft melodies that came to relax her at times.
She had had a rough day at work and the last thing she wanted was to be around pretentious people that you can only hear how they whisper behind each other's backs criticizing her clothes or her life, Lena loves classical music, she loves concerts, in fact she enjoy them a lot, she has always attended alone, which is to her liking, she likes to enjoy them that way, but she couldn't help wondering sometimes how it would feel to be accompanied by the right person.
"I'm going to the bathroom for a moment, excuse me," she said in her ear as she lifted me from her seat and walked to the bathroom.
Washing her hands and touching up her makeup a bit, she decided for a moment that it would be a good idea to go out and get some air before sitting back down with that guy without the slightest intention of having a conversation with him.
She was walking down the hall when she came out of the bathroom when she noticed a girl coming out of the room leaning on the wall. It seemed that she wasn't very well so Lena decided to approach her to ask her if she needed help.

She had been enjoying the music for a while, the place seemed a little more crowded and apparently that was beginning to cause him some anxiety. Before leaving home he had forgotten to take his medicine and until now she regretted not having taken it on time.
She got up slowly apologizing to get out of there since she was starting to get a little more dizzy.
She walked holding on to the walls silently cursing at the feeling in his chest, she walked very slowly until she reached the hallway. Her chest was starting to hurt a little more and she had a hard time breathing, she stood for a moment leaning to try to look in her bag for the medicine.
But before she could do so she heard a voice, a sweet voice approaching.
"Excuse me, are you okay?"
She looked up seeing a girl with a somewhat worried face, she was barely going to answer her when she felt wobbly again, feeling a hand taking her arm so that she wouldn't fall.
"Um yeah, I'm just a little dizzy." She gave a small forced smile as she let the other girl hold her.
"Come, I'll help you, do you want to go get some air or do you want to sit down?" The girl had taken her with both hands and had moved a little closer to her.
“Uhh yes, some air would be nice, thanks.”
And she led her slowly outside in silence.
“Thank you very much” she said kind embarrassed
"Don't worry, are you sure you're okay?" You look a little pale, do you want me to call someone? To your companion?” she told her as she pointed into the theater still with her face worried.
“I'm here alone actually, but seriously I'm fine, I just have to take my medicine and I'll be even better.”
"Okay, stay here and I'll bring some water for you to drink, okay? I won't be long." She said that and went back into the theater.
Kara searched her bag of pills, finding the little bottle and waiting for that nice girl. The fresh air on her face felt like a relief, although of course, she felt so silly at that moment,- 'excellent Kara, you couldn't choose a better place to do your show than here!'- she thought, well at least no one else had noticed, only that girl, ¿who is that girl?, she had to admit that when she raised his face and saw her for the first time it was a shock, she had beautiful green eyes and long black hair, in addition to seeing her in that blue dress with her bare shoulders, that girl was a dream and seeing how she cared for her for a moment had caused a strange feeling in his stomach.
"Here, here you go." She approached her, giving her a bottle of water.
“Hey seriously sorry for this, thank you very much, I'm fine, you better come in, I've made you miss half the concert, someone must also be waiting for you inside” She said that just to know if she was accompanied, -good tactic Danvers- smiled internally.
“Don't worry about that, in fact I had gone out to get some air, and I won't move from here until you take your pill and I see that you're better.” she said with a smile, hell but what a smile…
She took out the pills and took it, noticing that the girl didn't take her eyes off her, she had crossed her arms while she looked at her authoritatively and with a raised eyebrow.
“Done, you see. Thanks again for helping me and for the water. And sorry that with all this I have not introduced myself. My name is Kara, Kara Danvers” she gave her hand smiling
“Lena, Lena Luthor” .she took her hand and she really couldn't describe the feeling she had at that moment! She felt her heart racing but it definitely wasn't because she was having a heart attack
“Well, Kara Danvers, a pleasure, now… do you want to tell me…?” She leaned against the wall and pointed to the medicine bottle she had in her hand, she knew what she meant and couldn't help but think ¿why do you prefer to be here? listening to her story and not going in with whoever was waiting for her inside? She didn't know that girl but something in her feels like she can tell her and keep talking to her. And so she began to tell her a little about her history, about her dramatic and depressing life surrounded by medicine and hospitals.
“And today with all the things I had at work and in the rush I forgot to take the medicine and that's why during the concert I felt a little bad.”
“Wow, seriously you are very interesting Kara Danvers, so do you work at Catco? And how can you not have a stress attack having to deal with Cat Grant every day?” she asked jokingly and she couldn't help but smile, lowering her eyes.
“I think it's a super power” Kara said, adjusting her glasses.
“Hey, I've been looking for you! Where were you? Is everything okay?” A tall guy with curly hair approached Lena as he put her hand on her arm.
“Ah yes, I'm sorry, I met a friend and suddenly time ran out.” Her tone was serious and Kara could see how her face went from smiling to a little off.
"Well let's go in, the concert is almost over" he said without letting go of her arm.
“Yes, well Kara, it's been a pleasure, here I'll leave you my card, so please, whatever you need, you can call me, I'll be glad to know how you're doing, okay?” She took out a card from her handbag and gave it to her.
“Oh ok, yes of course! Thanks for everything”
“Goodbye Kara.”
“Goodbye Lena.”
Then Kara watched them walk away and enter the theater.
Of course she had a boyfriend, what was she thinking?, she rolled her eyes and turned around, it was time to go home, the little crises left her a little tired and tomorrow she had to go to work, she ordered a taxi and left, but She couldn't stop thinking about those green eyes, that look that glared at her and that smile, definitely Lena Luthor had caused an impact in her life, at that moment. Although she knew that she probably would not see her again, she would keep that memory of that night, how she helped her and how they talked, how she smiled at her and how she looked at her... yes, that would be a very beautiful memory for her…
