Summary
Cassian walks in on Nesta using her powers in the private library. She panics, seducing him into quid-pro-quo arrangement to keep her secret: she sleeps with him once a week, and he doesn’t tell the Inner Circle that she can still wield her mysterious silver flames. In a tribute to Nesta’s dwindling humanity, it is not a bargain—“I’m sick of this Fey bullshit”—it’s an arrangement, built on something more fleeting than magic: trust. It doesn’t take long for them to realize that this will work out to be much, much more than they bargained—or, rather—dealed for.
Meanwhile, mysterious beasts have begun appearing all over Prythian.
Fake-dating (fake-mating?), Valkyrie adventures, monster hunting, magic, and enough love to melt the Ice Queen’s heart, ensues.

His heart still pumped, blood gushing out of his chest in a depreciating rhythm, but even as it slowed, not-Nesta still stabbed him.
She straddled his corpse by the end, hoisting that paring knife over her head in two hands and plunging it into his chest until she could have killed him twelve times over, until her dusty blue skirts were good and bloodied.
