Chapter Text
There was nothing wrong with a little rain. The cold rain flushed down on the group of five friends as they all shielded themselves from the water droplets. However, it was of no use because the only thing dividing them from the quick rain was their arms and hands.
"Pope hurry up," Kiara called out behind her to her friend who was lagging behind. He was never the type to enter school sports, he always tried for educational hobbies so running as fast as the others weren't his style.
The dirt soon turned into a boggy brown texture, causing Pope to slip various times. The rain washed down all of a sudden so people around were rushing inside including the five. The tallest blonde boy was running beside his other blonde friend, and their shorter brunette friend that was in a middle of a fit of laughter began slowing down to pick up Pope. Their whole bodies including clothes and their heads of hair were soaked.
The whole group had been out on the beach enjoying their free Saturday, it seemed like an okay day to go outside but they were wrong. It was the perfect chance to do something together but the rain just had to come today. It was alright until the grey clouds came in and all hell broke loose with icing weather.
"Come on!" JJ -the blonde tall boy- yelled at the girl behind him, now dragging Alex's hand through the whisping cold cutting breeze. The water soaked into their bodies and the cutting air caused their teeth to chatter.
They finally made it to the usual hang-out place (John B's) and hid under his porch roof taking cover from the rain. Fully out of breath, the five dropped down in the benches and chairs around the porch that was sheltered.
"That was unexpected weather," John B said, ringing out his shirt which he previously took off. The climate didn’t seem like it was going to be clearing up any time soon so Alex, John B, and JJ got situated. Other than, Kiara and Pope they didn't take long to get prepared to leave to their warm homes.
"Where are you going?" Alex asked, thanking John B for the towel he handed her.
"My dad is picking me up, along with Pope," Kiara informed, retrieving the items that she left at the house before heading to the beach. "Do you guys need a ride?"
Each of them shook their heads no, well sure that they were not needed at their homes.
A car later pulled up outside, telling from the make and model it was for Kiara. All promptly said their goodbyes' and straightforward as that Pope and Kiara disappeared.
See, Kiara (Kie for her friends) is a Kook as they call it, she lives in Figure eight where all the rich people owned huge beach homes. The people in figure-eight owned golden passes to clubs where they played golf all day and wads of hundreds pocketed in their pockets to pay for any minor inconvenience in their daily lives. Except Kiara Carrera didn't match the classy stereotype, she is an athletic hippy that's passionate about saving the earth and pressing other people to be greener with their actions. She is the only Kook out of the group of Pogues but is considered a Pogue by her friends.
John Booker Routledge (Known as John B) was the one with the hangout house, only because his parents weren't in his life so he lived alone. The brunette sixteen-year-old boy had moved on from his father's disappearance after it concurred as a death. The persistent boy cares a ton for his friends and would do anything for them in a jiffy.
Then with Pope Heyward, works at his father's business (Heyward's Seafood) that delivers food to -usually the richer side of town-. He is the smartest of the Pogues with a scholarship on the line. Always up for an adventure, he is normally the one who decides to stay in his comfort zone when the group decided to do some out-of-the-pocket shit they impulsively acted on. He overthinks about the possible consequence of their actions and tries to warn the group when something he feels is about to happen, though they never listen.
Jj Maybank the tall blonde head who doesn't think before he acts. Best surfer of anyone on the island and is quick-tempered but is always up for making others laugh. He's very loyal to the people he shows care about and will do anything for them. His home life isn't the best and his friends understand when he shows up with a new cut or fresh bruise. He lives with his father but mostly spends his nights and days at John B's humble home.
Finally, the last person in the group is Alex Monroe. An independent, Witty, rebellious, young woman who is a hard worker raised by her brother who is a "Great influence". Though most of her worries are formed by feelings of built-up anger at her mother that is in jail for excessive drug posession. And father lives in The Cut but isn't really in contact with his children.
Everyone has their own personal problems and friends and is there to support and take care of one and the other.
"Alex, are you staying?" John B shouted from the kitchen, filling a cup of water. Kiara and Pope had left, leaving John B (At his own home) Alex and JJ. JJ usually stayed in John B's extra room because it was calmer and he didn't have to deal with his drunken father. On some nights, Alex decides to sleep over at John B for the matter of not wanting to walk all the way back to her house since they hung out late nights. Since he lives alone it also gives him company.
"Yeah, I'll stay," Alex entered the house from the porch, rubbing her head with the towel to dry out the water.
"Here," JJ appears out of the additional room, chucking one of his blue t-shirt and plaid boxers at Alex not too far away from him. "Change out of your clothes."
"Awe aren't you sweet." Alex jeered, shoving his shoulder as she walked past him and into the bathroom. Outside had gone dark and the angered rain had kept on going with no stop.
"Alex you're sleeping on the couch!" JJ slammed on the bathroom door, causing Alex to jump inside of the room. It irritated her enough to rush switching in and out of her clothes; swinging open the door to find JJ leaning on the wall in front of the door.
"No, the fuck not!" Alex sassed, the eye contact within them initiated that she was going to race to the empty spare room. At the same time, they both sped to the room to hopefully lock the other out. Unluckily for Alex, her reaction was too slow, she wasn't agile enough and JJ got into the bedroom first, sealing the door right in her face. "I hate you, J."
John B chortled from the kitchen, as he crossed Alex in the hallway he said, "Sorry Alex."
"Good night!" Jj hysterically shrieked from the opposite side of the door, it infuriated Alex how she could apprehend his cocky giggling since she wasn't too far away. However, before Alex hurried away from the door, JJ flung a warm fleece blanket out the door so that Alex could stay heated on the couch. Way to rub in the win.
