Work Text:
Soft blonde hair ticked the tip of Exer’s nose, aiding in his slow wake up. He was a little disgruntled at first, but just a peek revealed David resting his head on top of him. They were tangled together in bed, like most mornings. Exer pulled back a little to get a better view of his boyfriend. The sun streaming through the curtains left a soft glow reflecting off the taller man.
Exer could feel a sloppy grin tugging at the corners of his mouth. Part of him wanted to stay in David’s arms all morning, but he had a routine to follow. He took a deep breath before kissing the top of David’s head and slipping away. Although it was a little chilly in their apartment, he didn’t bother to throw on a shirt. He was going to get overheated after his workout anyway.
Exer loved David’s company, but his workout sessions were a nice time to just be alone and think. It was kind of funny, if someone told him he’d be on this path when he was still in High School, he would’ve told them to lay off the drugs. Although it was messy and awkward at first, in fact everything was messy back then, he’s grateful it all turned out the way it did.
When he was done, he snuck back into the room to snag his towel and clothes for a shower. David was sprawled out on the bed now, still in a deep sleep. It left this warm, fuzzy feeling dancing in the darker man’s chest.
Exer didn’t take particularly long showers, not usually. In fact, he prided himself on how short they were. Showers were a nice place for thought too, but these thoughts were more mundane and practical. They typically ran along the lines of what he’ll have to deal with at work, what classes he’ll have, what chores David didn’t do and what he has to cook. Exer could feel his stomach rumble, he guessed it was time.
Shortly after the shower, Exer trudged to the kitchen. He was surprised to find the scent of coffee wafting through the apartment. Standing by the counter, sleepy eyed but functional, was David. A bright grin spread across David’s face when he noticed his boyfriend walking in.
“Enjoy your shower, snuggluffagus?”
Exer snorted, the pet names just kept getting dumber. Yet they still made him melt. Only a little though. Exer pulled out a pan and placed it on the stove, behind him David pulled out a carton of eggs. They synced up like this pretty fast. Exer supposed it was due to their long friendship before they had started dating.
Exer was absolutely a master of omelets. Part of it was because of his own father’s great cooking, most of it was because it was pretty much all they ate for breakfast most mornings. They say practice makes perfect.
Perfect
That’s what this morning felt like. He felt unusually good, despite the crappy shift he’d have to go to in a few hours. It’s not like they didn’t normally have good mornings, they usually did, but something about this morning grounded him. A fantasy become reality. Warm arms wrapping themselves around him distracted him from the soft tugging at his heart. David was hugging him from behind and resting his head on his shoulder. David had always done that, but these days it just felt different. Probably because of the kisses David was planting on the side of Exer’s face.
“You’re burning the eggs.” David said in between kisses, light amusement lacing his words.
“Ah sugar, you’re right.” Exer gave them a panicked flip.
David chuckled, leaving vibrations to ring down Exer’s spine. It was kind of infectious, making him want to laugh too.
He was whipped.
So whipped.
