Summary
“Mama!” Leo shrieked, grabbing the bars.
Across the street, the gates of the mill finally swung wide. Elena Rossi stepped out, blinking against the setting sun, her eyes searching the spot by the crate where her son always sat. She saw the black wagon pulling away, but the streets were too loud, the horses were braying, and the city was too vast.
As the wagon jolted forward, Leo watched his mother through the bars. She looked small; a tiny, dark speck against the massive brick wall of the factory. He reached out a hand, but the wagon turned a corner, and the world he knew was severed as cleanly as a thread under a tailor’s shears.

Summary
“I am going to kill Penguin,” Jason growled, ripping off his helmet and tossing it onto a workbench. “I’m going to pluck him and fry him. I’m starving Bruce, tell me there’s something to eat that isn’t a protein bar.”
Bruce was busy analyzing the molecular decay of ectoplasm and didn’t look up. “Alfred is upstairs.”
Jason’s eyes landed on the white paper bag sitting by the monitors. He didn’t see the “DO NOT EAT” scrawled in faint, glowing green sharpie. He just saw a bagel.
“Score,” Jason muttered.
Danny turned around just in time to see Jason take a massive, aggressive bite of the everything bagel.
“Wait! Jason, no!”

Summary
The Watchtower’s reinforced titanium doors hissed open, revealing a scene that made Batman’s hand hover instinctively over a batarang.
In the center of the common room sat a six-foot-tall Bengal tiger. It wasn’t just a tiger; it was a tiger wearing a tweed blazer, a neatly knotted silk tie, and a pair of reading glasses perched on its snout. It was currently sipping tea from a delicate porcelain cup while Billy leaned against its striped flank, eating a ham sandwich.
“Billy,” Superman said, his voice dropping into a register of controlled panic. “Get away from the tiger. Slowly.”
Billy looked up, blinking. “Oh, hey guys! I wanted to introduce you to someone. This is Mr. Tawny.”
The tiger set his teacup down with a refined clink and stood on his hind legs, smoothing out the wrinkles in his jacket. “A pleasure to finally meet the associates William speaks so highly of,” the tiger said, his voice a rich, sophisticated baritone. “I am Mr. Tawny. I believe we have much to discuss.”
The flash vibrated into a blur. “The cat is talking. Why is the cat talking? Why is the cat wearing a blazer?”

Summary
Danny was currently doing slow backflips in mid-air, looking far more refreshed than the teenager had any right to be.
“I feel great!” Danny chirped. “Usually when I eat natural fear, like, you know, a ghost haunting a grocery store, it’s very earthy. Subtle. But this? This is like a blue raspberry slurpee of terror. It’s got that sharp, artificial tang that just stays on the tongue.”
“You realize,” Bruce said, turning his chair around to face the boy, “that you just consumed a dose that would cause permanent neurological collapse in any other human. You aren’t just ‘fine.’ You’re intoxicated.”
