Summary
So this is basically a continuation of a fic that I saw of Jason Todd. (Gifted to the author) I loved the idea, so I wanted to write more, and now this is happening. If you want to find out exactly what's happening, go check out the original fic (and maybe kudos, cause it was honestly awesome.)
PS: As far as I know, the original fic was canon-compliant about who knows who and how old everyone is, but I might be changing the timeline a bit for my fic. It will mostly be Jason already knowing and having good (or bad) relationships with people whom he was supposed to meet and bond with later on in the comics. (Also, Arkham is a prison, not an asylum. Not sure how I made that mistake, but we're living with it now.)

He can’t take it anymore. Everything that he worked for, all for it to be for nothing at all. Why did he think Bruce would avenge him? Prove that he loves him? Why couldn’t Bruce kill the Joker? If Batman, the self-proclaimed protector of Gotham couldn’t, why couldn’t Bruce Wayne, his unofficial adoptive father do it? Bruce is the one who compartmentalizes the two identities and acts like they’re different people. If Batman couldn’t kill Joker, why can’t Bruce?
He feels something roll down his face, and that’s when Jason realizes that he’s crying. His plan didn’t work. Months, if not years of planning for an ending he fully believed in—gone. Destroyed. What was he going to do now? Kill Joker himself? Jason doesn’t know. He doesn’t know. He can’t deal with life right now, and if anything, he wishes that building killed him.
That’s when it clicks. He doesnt have to keep going. He has a way out. He just has to make it to the kitchen.

He remembered screaming.
He remembered shaking her, trying to get a response.
He remembered picking up the landline phone, fingers trembling, as he dialed in three numbers.
He remembered begging for help, his voice barely a whisper.
He remembered the panicked footsteps that barged into the apartment, the loud voices, the equipment. He remembered the feeling of helplessness. The utter terror of watching through the small slit of the cracked-open door as paramedics got her back. He remembered waiting with batted breaths, pleading to whoever was out there to spare her.
