Copying over from my old fanfiction.net account. Based on the 1978 Les Misérables movie and book, post-Seine, though characters are slightly OOC. Valjean fears a future alone without Cosette or any friends to be with him, and he's taken in Inspector Javert as a guest, hoping to persuade him to stay. Rated for brief gore/references to death, suicide, self-harm, religion and war. Platonic, but I suppose could be read as more.

Hiding has long ceased to be an option in this place. Running has always been futile. To survive, sacrifices of every variety must be made. Most of all, one must be willing to adapt as an animal does, even if it's playing into the whims of one far more powerful than you could hope to become.
Or,
Paradox has become one of "The Wretched", though perhaps they always were. With this metaphorical adaptation, they find themself no longer able to just give up, nor throw away the chances they've had brought upon them. There will be no 'good ending' for them alone. But perhaps if they played a key role in this strange script, they can find the purpose behind their prolonged existence.

"Look man sorry for grabbing the tongues damnit―!" He spoke quickly but was interrupted by a small groan from Jack who continued to lick at the wound.
