Magnus gently brushes a strand of hair away from Alec’s eyes. He watches the man he loves sleeping, and can’t help the smile that appears on his face. Alec looks so peaceful and Magnus can’t believe he gets to wake up every morning to this sight. Just then, Alec stirs and slowly opens his eyes. The first thing he sees is Magnus’s cat eyes staring right back at him, along with such a loving smile.
Alec smiles adoringly back at him. Oh, how he absolutely loves Magnus’s real eyes. They are so bright and golden, just like the sun. He can’t wait to spend the rest of his life getting to look at those beautiful eyes. Yes, some people may get to see Magnus’s real eyes when Magnus is fully focused on his magic, but only Alec has the privilege of getting to see them regularly, and because Magnus wants him to see them. When they are alone and Magnus feels at his most comfortable, enough so that he purposely lets his guard down, when he can truly be himself. Alec will never take that privilege for granted, and will spend the rest of his life reminding his fiancé that they are beautiful, that he is beautiful.
He cups Magnus’s face with one hand, looks him deep in the eyes and says with such simplicity and sincerity, “You are beautiful”.
Magnus had never been called beautiful, and especially not his eyes, before he met Alec. It still took him by surprise sometimes when Alec would say it, but he was slowly getting used to it. He knew though, with absolute certainty, that Alec truly means it. And that makes his heart swell.
Alec thinks that the smile Magnus gifts him with easily puts the sun to shame. “I love you”, Alec says, and Magnus can feel that he meant that with his whole soul. He smiles lovingly, and gently cups Alec’s cheek with one hand. “I love you too Alexander, so much”, Magnus replies softly. They both lean in and share a tender kiss. They pour all their love into the kiss and they can each feel it. It is warm, it is loving, and it is hope, hope for the future they can now share together.
They slowly pull away from each other and lean back into the mattress on their sides. They just lay there looking into each other’s eyes, simply enjoying being together again. After a few minutes, Magnus says “I can’t believe I’m here with you now, getting to be with the man I love”. Alec gives him a knowing smile. “I was scared we wouldn’t find our way back to each other”, Magnus says with a hint of sadness in his voice. “But somehow we always do”, he finishes with a smile. He kisses Alec softly and then says “we were meant to be Alexander. We were made for each other. All my long life I have been waiting for my great love, waiting for you”.
Alec rushes forward and kisses him with such passion. Magnus melts into the kiss and gives as good as he gets. After what feels like both an eternity and also only a split second, they finally break apart, breathing heavily. They look at each other again, getting their breath back before Alec speaks, “I was scared I wouldn’t find a way to get you back. To bring you back home, back to me.” Alec’s voice cracked a little at the end, and Magnus gives him a little nod, encouraging him to continue. Alec takes a deep breath to steady his voice and then says “I meant what I said Magnus, if I had failed at finding a way to get you back, I would have stayed in Edom with you. I meant it then and I still stand by it now. I would stay there with you for the rest of my life if that was the only way for us to be together. I am never leaving you again.”
Magnus smiles wide and places a soft kiss to Alec’s cheek. He slides his hand into one of Alec’s, intertwining their fingers. He cups Alec’s cheek with his free hand and says softly “I am never leaving you again either, Alexander”. Alec kisses the back of Magnus’s hand and says “I haven’t said these words to you before, but I hope you know it anyway. You are my world Magnus. It’s only you and will only ever be you. I will never love anyone else.” Magnus suddenly feels emotional and doesn’t even attempt to hide the slight shine of tears in his eyes. He kisses Alec with such love. “I can’t wait to be your husband”, Alec says when they break apart. “You have waited a long time but I am here now”, he says while cupping Magnus’s cheek.
“I have certainly waited a very long time, but you were so incredibly worth the wait Alexander”, Magnus says with a smile. Alec gives him a happy and proud smile. “There is no one else for me Alexander, ever. You are it for me. Always.” Magnus says softly. It is now Alec’s turn to get emotional. They share a soft and tender kiss, not wanting to let go of each other ever again.
Magnus pulls away a little to look Alec in the eye. “I can’t wait to be your husband either”, he says with a big smile. Alec goes to open his mouth to speak, but before he can even say anything, Magnus’s lips are back on his again and he melts into the kiss, completely forgetting what he had wanted to say. When they break away, Alec wraps his arms around Magnus and pulls him close. Magnus wraps himself around Alec and nestles his head into his chest, listening to the calming sound of his fiancé’s heartbeat.
They stay like this for a while, pressed tightly together from head to toe, like they are one. The sun is now fully shining through the window, beaming onto the gold satin sheets, making a bright golden glow throughout the room and making them feel all warm and cosy.
It is nothing compared to the warmth and glow of their hearts.
