Back to the past?

Summary:

What happens when a fight with a villain goes wrong? Chaos ensues. Thankfully, it is an adorable chaos.

Work Text:

Mirio was confused. Tamaki had not shown up to class at all today, which was rare, as the boy, no matter how bad his anxiety got, always showed up to class. He figured that their previous villain encounter may have caused his best friend's absence, but the fiend's quirk didn't seem to have any affect on Tamaki. At least, not at the time.

It was now 5pm and Mirio was getting worried. He had tried to call and text his best friend multiple times throughout the day, but didn't get an answer to a single one of them. He sighed as he started to walk along. Wait a minute, he thought. I can go and visit him! So, with a new spring in his step and a smile on his face, Mirio did just that.

Soon enough, there was a persistent knocking on the door of the Amajikis' residence as Tamaki's mother hurried to the door, a muffled noise of affirmation that she was on her way could be heard from behind the large, oaken door. She unlocked and turned the doorknob, pleased to see Mirio on the other side. She was very grateful that he had befriended and stuck by her son after all these years.

"Mirio! It's great to see you. You're here for Tamaki right? I'm sure it must have been hard without him at school, but he's in a bit of a... predicament right now," she told the sunshine boy with a nervous laugh as she remembered what had happened not even an hour after Tamaki had gotten back from Fatgum's hero agency.

"Yes please, Amajiki-san," Mirio bowed politely, his smile only wavering slightly as he heard something had happened to Tamaki. "Is he alright? I've been worried sick! Is he hurt?"

"He's fine! It's nothing like that... just uh, why don't you go and see for yourself," Tamaki's mother told him, stepping to the side to let the boy in through the doorway.

"Thank you! I'll go check on him," Mirio said with another bow before he ran to Tamaki's room and knocked on the door, a bit less persistent than he did the front door, as he didn't want to startle the jumpy, anxious boy.
"Tamaki, hey, it's me, Mirio! Can I come in?"

Although, Tamaki still managed to be surprised and jump a bit as he let out a startled squeak. "No Mirio, please, I don't want you to see me like this!" The boy pleaded, in a slightly higher pitched voice than Mirio was used to, making the slightly older boy a bit confused.

"Tamaki, you know I love you no matter what, I'm coming in!" He called out, blushing a bit as he realized what he said, hoping Tamaki wouldn't realize or hoping he'd think nothing of it. Although, that was not the case as the dark-haired boy squeaked again and flushed a vibrant red, which he quickly tried to calm down.

Mirio started to turn the handle of the door and slowly opened it all the way. His jaw dropped at the sight in front of him. It was Tamaki, but he somehow looked exactly how he had their first year of middle school. He. Was. So. Tiny!

Tamaki yelped and attempted to disappear from sight by wrapping his arms around himself. "Don't look Mirio!" He all but screeched, shrinking in on himself.

Mirio walked over and hugged his very small friend, wrapping his big, strong arms around his little body. "You're so tiny!" He said, smiling brightly. "It's adorable, and, wow, I can't believe you're this small," he ogled.

Tamaki huffed, but couldn't help but hug Mirio back. "It was that stupid villain's quirk... turned me back to how I was when we were in middle school," he sighed. "Its so embarrassing," he said as he pressed his head up against Mirio's chest like he might do to a wall.

"I don't think so, I think it's cute!" Mirio replied, with a sweet chuckle and ruffle to Tamaki's hair, eliciting a groan from the smaller boy, even though he never really bothered with his hair in the first place.

"I just want it to be over..." he murmured and pulled away from Mirio's hug, reluctantly, as he missed having his best friend's strong arms around him, and the very thought made him flush a bright red. Mirio was, of course, oblivious to his friend's blush.

"Well, there's gotta be a limit to the quirk right? Maybe by tomorrow you'll be back to normal?" Mirio suggested, biting his lip as he tried to think. As much as he liked this version of Tamaki, he also loved normal Tamaki and would give anything to make sure his friend was comfortable.

"Okay.... so what do you propose we do in the meantime?" Tamaki asked, sitting on his bed as he shifted nervously and played with the frayed ends of his sheets.

"Hmmm... let's watch a movie!" Mirio suggested, plopping down next to Tamaki on his bed and wrapping a gentle arm around the smaller's waist, which made both of the boys blush. It was surprising how good Tamaki fitted against Mirio's side. Not that he didn't always, but he was extra small now.

Luckily, this calmed down Tamaki's nerves and he found himself nodding, leaning his head against Mirio's shoulder and yawning slightly. "Sounds like a good idea... pick anything you want," he told him, starting to zone out as Mirio began ranting about a bunch of comedy movies they could watch, before just deciding to have a bunch of them out to binge.

By the time the second movie rolled around, both of the boys fell asleep. Tamaki's mother came in the room and smiled sweetly, turning off the TV and covering the boys in the fuzzy blankets on Tamaki's bed.

Low and behold, when morning came and the sun was shining through the blinds into Mirio's and Tamaki's faces, making them start to wake up, Tamaki was back to normal.

"Aw, I kinda missed when you were tiny," Mirio chuckled tiredly between a yawn as his voice was gravelly from sleep. Tamaki woke up not even a minute after and blinked his eyes open, yawning like a kitten.

"Oh... you do?" Tamaki asked, a bit disappointed.

"Hm... nah. I think I like this Tamaki the best! He's my adorable sunshine," Mirio replied, not realizing what he said.

"M-Mirio!" Tamaki yelped, his face and adorable pointed ears turning a bright shade of red, making him look like a tomato. "Shut up... please," he continued as a sudden burst of rare confidence struck him and he kissed Mirio's lips quickly, to shut him up, before moving to pull away.

Mirio, however, had other plans, and gently grabbed Tamaki's wrist, pulling him in for a slightly deeper kiss. He slowly trailed a hand up and used it to cup Tamaki's cheek, smiling into the kiss. "I love you, too!" He said after pulling away for air.

They hugged each other, Tamaki burying his burning face in Mirio's shoulder, while the blond boy chuckled and wrapped his arms around Tamaki's back. And you know what? Tamaki still fit perfectly in Mirio's arms, no matter what.
