It took Dream a little bit longer than the perceived definition of 'normal' to realize he was a master at baiting nobody but himself.
"No one will realize," he had gently told Manatreed over a Discord call a month prior to his little 'hey, I own those gloves' reply on Twitter. "Nobody will notice."
"And what if they do?"
"They won't. It's the last thing they'd suspect."
Last thing to be suspected, his ass. Unbeknownst to Dream, there was a flaw in his careful and meticulous calculations. It was a flaw he could not have prevented, simply because he had never even considered or decided to factor it in.
Enter Reddit in all its glory on the 26th of December.
Or 27th, depending on which timezone the 'they' in Dream's statement ran by. By the time Dream had finished typing his essay on how he was most certainly not okay with this holier-than-thou user accusing him of being sexually ambiguous for clout, his fingers were ready to give out.
Sharing a view on himself that even he was not so sure about felt like taking a shot in the dark. It was something that had swirled around his box of private, locked thoughts, and now, all bared to the public, it knocked him out tired. How can something be both terrifying and amazing to get off his chest? But God, he could finally say it aloud without anything to fear: no, he wasn't queerbaiting with George. Dream paused for a fraction of a second.

He must've broken a new speedrun record with how fast he reacted and dialed Manatreed on Discord.
"So," he started with a voice crack right as Manatreed picked up. "We might have a growing problem, and I have no idea how to solve it."
Dream provided an awkward cough into his perpetually horrendous mic. He prayed that the already-posted Reddit comment would not encourage his fans to connect two and two.
"Remember that one time I said no one would ever suspect that we're dating?"
Manatreed made a sound that existed somewhere between affirmation and worry.
From there on, it only took an hour and twelve minutes of continuous explanation, brainstorming, and combined panic for the situation to be clarified from one faceless man's end to another. Or pseudo-faceless, considering Manatreed's visually pleasing and Greek-sculpted jawline was already broadcasted to the chronically online world.

Sometimes, Dream thought as he scrolled through the nth × 108 tweet on his timeline showcasing one of his fans going through the five stages of hysterical screaming before casually dropping a 'Manatreed = Dream Tean' anagram, followed by a 'is MWT the new DNF'—
—sometimes, he wondered if these people were way too analytical for their own good. That, or they had too much time on their hands.
How, Dream deadpanned to nobody in particular.
It was probably the latter, he sighed inwardly, reluctantly checking the trending tab.
Whoever worked behind a crummy desk and manually filled in the reasons for his Twitter trends, Dream hoped that they were getting a rightful raise and a clap on the back.
