Chapter Text
You had been walking for days now and it felt like you were no closer to Mordor than when you guys left Rivendell. Luckily it didn’t rain yet but the overall mood in the Fellowship was worse than before. Legolas stared off into the distance -as he usually does- but other than to Aragorn he didn’t talk to anyone. Not even Gimlis constant chatter made him break his silence. Aragorn behaved quite normally but he kept an eye on Frodo and Boromir. The said tried to keep as much distance from each other as possible and also didn’t talk a lot. Gandalf rooted in his own thoughts and smoked. That left Sam, who was cooking for us, Merry, Pippin and you to keep the mood as lighthearted as possible.
Now you might wonder how you ended up in this - quite, well, difficult situation- the short explanation is a wibbily-wobbly-timey-multiversal-travelling-wimey happened and you ended up in no other world than Middle Earth, the fictional world in which the Lord Of the Rings takes place. Now of course, the lucky cat that you are you did not end up in the sweet Shire as a hobbit who lives an easy and fun life. No you stumbled right across Aragorn who took Sam, Merry and Pippin to Rivendell where Frodo already was thanks to Arwen. They were kind enough not to ask many questions and took a - quite bewildered- you to Lord Elrond. There you were able to talk with him and Gandalf, both were just as confused as you were and decided that you should stay in Rivendell until the whole Ring-issue is solved.
You understood that decision , you really did, but hell if you end up in one of your favourite stories you would not just stand at the sidelines and watch the people you always admired without talking to them. So of course the only logical choice was to accompany the Fellowship of the Ring and act as a consultant whenever they needed aid. It is likely that neither of the men - expect the Hobbits- were happy with my choice to join them but they did not try to stop me. Why so, you really didn’t know. If you would have been them you would have locked yourself into a room and not let you out until you were far away enough. You don’t have any skills when it comes to fighting, even tough you can proudly say your are pretty good with bow and arrow. But without the Fellowship you wouldn’t have survived a day in the wild.
Now that brings us to where we started off. The Hobbits and you sat around the fire and you listened to Gimli who ranted about something related to mining. Your interest rather sat with the fire that crackled in front of you.
“(Y/N)! Laddie, are you still with us?”
You flinched when Gimli slightly hit you with the wooden end of his axe and focused back on the group.
“I’m sorry what did you say? Fire just always brings out the Stone Age man, well woman, in me.” You laughed slightly at your joke and scratched your head. Gimli wrinkled his nose and took a deep puff from his pipe.
“I was asking you if you can tell us when we will have finished our journey!” He said very loudly and by that attracted Boromir and Aragorns attention who stood further away from the group. Even Gandalf looked at you expectantly. Only Legolas didn’t move an inch but with his elven hearing he didn’t need to turn around or get closer to understand what we were saying.
You cleared your throat and looked down at your hands. Of course you were aware of the possible outcome if you tell them just one thing too much but telling them when they will have destroyed the ring won’t hurt won’t it? Still unsure what you should do you looked at Gandalf who didn’t seem to understand the question in your eyes or was too curious himself to tell you not to answer. You sighed and looked up to the men standing around you.
“Look, guys I know you want to know where your path takes you but I told you several times now. I can’t just tell you what will happen because then it might not happen. I will help you when you need it but I can’t just run around and tell you everything.”
Boromir let out an annoyed sigh and turned back to where he was standing before.
“You will never be of any use for us then if you can’t even answer a little question like that. I seriously doubt you even know the future.” He said and walked away.
You rolled your eyes in annoyance and sighed. It has been like that for a few days now, one of the men, usually Boromir or Gimli doubting you and not just for the fact that you are not a warrior but for you being you.
Doing the only thing effective if dealing with a rude man you stood up and yelled after him: “An attitude like that will not help you to win this war Boromir and you will definitely not win a woman’s heart like that!”
He didn’t even turn around even though he definitely heard you. You understand that the ring is taking him slowly into its control but that is no reason to be rude. When you sat down again Pippin, who was seated next to you giggled.
You laughed and slightly pushed him. “Watch out Mister if you are mean to me I will insult you too. I’m not afraid of you.”
“Oh I am very sure of that Miss, I wouldn’t dare even thinking about it.” He shot you a grin and you put an arm around him for a quick hug. Now Gimli made himself audible again by coughing and hitting you again with his axe, of course the wooden end.
“Now that you scared of the gondorian you can tell us when this is going to end right?” You hoped he would let it go but of course luck was not on your side. Apparently Aragorn sensed your distress and put a hand on Gimlis shoulder.
“Now now Gimli if she doesn’t want to tell us she has a good reason to do so and I am sure our journey is going to end soon, won’t it? (Y/N)?”
Oh Aragorn if he would know. You swallowed and nodded with a tight smile, however, the others didn’t seem to notice and Gimli looked partly pleased with this answer. When Aragorn walked away from the fire you quickly took a hold of his wrist and smiled at him in thanks. He nodded and left to where Boromir was headed before.
“Well then if you can’t tell us anything about our world can you tell us something about your world?” Sam asked and looked up from the pot above the fire. You smiled at the blonde Hobbit and nodded.
“Oh yes my dear Sam I can tell you a lot of things, whatever you want to know just ask me.” It made you happy telling them about my world and helped you not to forget it. The Hobbits were surprised to hear that people in your world mainly behaved and lived like Hobbits and all of them were kind enough to invite you to the Shire after they heard about your love for it.
“Are all women like you or are they more you know… not you?” Asked Pippin and Merry shot him a mad glance. “Pip! You can’t just ask a woman that! It’s rude. I do would like to know as well though.”
You laughed and looked to Frodo who smiled as well. You didn’t talk a lot but that was rather given the fact that he kept his distance from everyone but Sam. You know about his burden and understand his feelings but you do try to make him laugh as often as possible. You shook your head and then looked at the two cousins.
“Well, besides the fact that yes indeed this is a very rude question I would want to say that no woman is like the other and everyone is special. So no, there are no other women like me. However, if you refer to my way of behaving around men, yes, a lot of women are like me. We are raised with different ideals.”
Now the Hobbits nodded and had a thoughtful look on their faces but it passed soon when Sam declared that dinner was ready. Aragorn and Boromir re-emerged from where they disappeared with some wood for the fire and sat down with us to eat. Whilst eating Boromir continued to shoot you dirty looks but he didn’t say anything, you will have to apologise to him before his end comes. He is not an evil man, just a flawed one.
After dinner Gandalf instructed you to get sleep as you will be travelling quite a lot tomorrow. You will soon reach the Mines of Moria but not before you try the snowy and cold way above the Mines. Slightly shuddering in fear of what will come you prepared your bed on the ground and stared further into the fire. You listened to the whispers of the Hobbits who talked about dinner for the next days and Gimli who was already snoring, axe in his hand. Slowly your eyes fell shut and you slept through a dreamless night.
