Chapter Text
Pressing the call button Alec worried his bottom lip with his teeth, wondering if this time by some miracle that Magnus would actually answer his call and he wouldn't get the same unavailable tone that had availed his ears every time before and when the same noise came out of his phone he cut the call and looked at the photo he had of Magnus on his screen.
“You never gave me the chance to say sorry Magnus.” Alec whispered quietly. “I'm an idiot, the idiot who loves you and you have vanished from my life.”
A soft knock on the office door broke his line of thought and he looked up to see Jace watching him sadly from the doorway,
“Still not heard anything from Magnus?” Jace asked, walking into the room and perching on the edge of the desk.
“It's like he's vanished off the face of the earth.” Alec replied. “No-one knows where he is, not even Catarina and Dorothea.”
“Maybe he needs some time to himself, think about what you said to each other?” Jace suggested.
“This was all my fault.” Alec sighed. “If I hadn't gone snooping in his things and got jealous over people that have been dead for so many years then I wouldn't have escalated it into a argument.”
“You said he called you childish?” Jace clarified.
“Told me to stop acting like a child when I told him to stop treating me like one.” Alec corrected him. “If he can love me without focusing on the future, my growing old and leaving him like so many others can't I pretend that I am fine with him moving on after I am gone?”
“He can't help being immortal Alec.” Jace told him. “Didn't you say that he hadn't been in a relationship for almost a hundred years before he met you?”
Alec nodded, looking down at the desk before him.
“Look, if he could close his heart off after someone like Camille hurt him then there is no way he will be jumping into a relationship with someone else ...” Jace paused for a moment. “When he loses you. He loves you Alec, we can all see that.”
“He did, I'm not so sure now.” Alec replied, looking up at his Parabatai with red rimmed eyes. “I think he's gone for good.”
“I don't believe he would do that.” Jace told him.
“We shall see.” Alec told him. “It's been three weeks now, I'm not holding my breath.”
“Maybe I can talk to Cat and Dot, it could be he's made them promise not to tell of his whereabouts?” Jace suggested. “Especially to you.”
“Do what you want.” Alec retorted. “You better get back to training before Clary comes looking for you.”
“Okay.” Jace said simply, not wanting to leave him in this state but he knew he would feel through their bond if he needed to seek him out again.
Once Jace had left the office, closing the door behind him Alec lowered his head onto his arms on the desk and let the tears fall once more.

Magnus' eyes began to flutter open causing him to wince at the bright lights, wondering why his whole body seemed to ache and when his vision cleared he could see he was in hospital with no idea, what had happened, where he was or even what his name was.
He tried to call out to the nurse he could see checking a chart at the bottom of the only other bed in the room but his throat was so dry and sore nothing but a low grunt came out, but she turned around and smiled at him.
“You're awake finally.” She told him. “It was touch and go for a while but you're doing okay and the broken bones are healing nicely. Would you like a sip of water?”
Magnus nodded, watching her pick up the nearby plastic jug of water and pour some into a plastic cup before adding a straw and putting it to his lips.
“Sip slowly.” She warned him.
Magnus did as instructed, the cool water soothing his throat some until he felt like he could try and speak again.
“What happened?” Magnus managed to get out.
“You were hit by a car.” She replied. “the witness reports said that someone speeding lost control, mounted the pavement and knocked you flying. You hit your head hard, they had to operate to release the pressure because you brain was swollen and you broke your left leg, left arm in two places and you were one large bruise all down your left side.”
“Where am I?” Magnus asked next.
“Washington DC. Your accident happened in Brooklyn, New York but the best surgeon needed for the brain surgery was unable to get to you, so you were taken to him. Any other questions?”
“Who am I?” Magnus asked quietly.
“I'm sorry, you had no ID on you where you were brought here.” She explained feeling so sad for him. “The bag you had with you only contained a book and a few small bottles containing dried herbs and wild flowers.”
“No-one has reported me missing?” Magnus asked.
“I'm sorry, no.” She told him honestly.
“Will my memory come back?” Magnus asked, getting more and more worried and scared at his situation.
“I can't answer that, only time will tell.” She replied. “I'm sorry.”
“I need to be alone.” Magnus told her closing his eyes.
“I'll be back soon.” She told him gently, patting him softly on the top of the arm before leaving.
Magnus winced at a pain that shot through his body when he attempted to roll on his side so he stayed laying on his back as he let the tears escape from his eyes.
