The office was a mess.

Amelia surveys it tiredly. The desk was a disaster, a tornado of paper and documents. She’d have to reorganize that. The case she had open in her hands felt like a lead weight. It was a hefty thing filled to the brim with articles and pictures. She’d just finished up collecting the data for it and now she just had to send it to the agency- but wait, was everything in there? She scowls. She’s on two hours of sleep and she can feel it with the way she has to squint to read the first file.

That’s how Gura finds her, sitting cross-legged in the middle of her office and trying to read.

“Woah.” Her girlfriend is looking around. “Decided to decorate?”

“Busy,” Amelia mutters.

“Too busy.” Gura fires back. She’s walking around Amelia like she’s trying to figure out how to move a stubborn rock. “You’ve been at this for hours now. Maybe take a break and come back to it?”

“No breaks,” Amelia says.

“Uh-huh.” Gura drawls. She’s crouching down and opening her arms. “Drop the tree sacrilege and c’mere.”

“Tree sac-?” Amelia glances at her. Gura’s form kinda blurs when she moves too quickly. She rubs her eyes and murmurs, “I need to finish this, Gura.”

“Nah, it can wait.” Gura beckons to her, “C’mon. I’ll bug Ina to give you puppy scritches.”

Amelia grumbles. Even with her vision kinda swimmy, she can see Gura grinning, “You like that magic too much. Ever since Ina used the Ancient Ones to give you cat ears you won’t let it go.”

“Puppy ears,” Gura says.

“No,” Amelia says.

“You look cute.” Gura isn’t waiting for her anymore. She’s scooping her arm underneath her knees and around her back. She's lifting her up. Amelia leaves the file behind as she’s settled into Gura’s arms. The shark huffs. “And besides, you like it.”

“Shut up,” Amelia mutters. She’s not complaining about this. She’s leaning her head on Gura’s shoulder. She can ignore the smugness of Gura’s smile when she’s in the comfort of her arms.

Relaxation time was unique when it came to her girlfriends. For Gura, it involved long trips to the beach. She only found that kind of stress relief when thousands of miles beneath the surface. For Ina, it was complete darkness. Absent thought or impression, the priestess would mediate contently. For Ame, it used to be time-traveling so fast she almost threw up, until she actually did throw up and her girlfriends gave her dozens of new ways to relax out of stress for her health.

One of those ways involved dog ears. The first time around she could feel embarrassment in her chest. She’d barely wanted to even go near anyone when she had first received them from Ina’s magic. It’d taken weeks to convince her to even try it, the final deal-breaker being Gura’s appearance one day with cat ears.

Presently, she’s gotten used to them. The only ones who see her like this are her girlfriends and it’s not like she’s going to go outside with a tail wagging between her legs. Instead, she curls up on the couch with her head in Ina’s lap. The priestess runs her fingers through her hair and it’s heaven on her scalp. Every touch along her head is tingling her nerves. Her ears twitch happily.

“Was the case really difficult?” Ina’s asking. She’s got her phone laying on the armrest. She’s glancing at it from time to time.

Amelia mutters, “Kinda. I got stumped.”

“Poor thing.” She feels a kiss pressed to her temple. Amelia ignores the thumping of the couch, already well aware her tail had a mind of its own. “How’s your head? Gura mentioned you might have a headache.”

“No,” Amelia exhales, “I’m okay.”

“Mmh.”

Gura pokes her head out of the kitchen, “Ina, did you want something too?”

“Oh, tea please. You don’t have to if you don’t want to.”

“Coming right up.”

Amelia inhales. Her senses were sharper than before. The scents of the kitchen were hugging her nose and leaving a delightful sensation of something deliciously comfy. She exhales. Ina’s fingers are back to scratching. They find a spot behind her ears that’s turning her into jelly. She hums appreciatively.

“Did you want help with it?” Ina asks. “Your case, I mean.”

“I’m pretty much done with it.” Amelia’s voice is hoarse with sleep. “I just gotta send it in and…and review it first, yeah.”

Ina sounds amused, “You sure you want to do that? You sound like you could use a nap.”

“No,” Amelia whines, “No. I need to finish this.”

“If she gets up from that couch, I’m getting the cone,” Gura yells.

Amelia raises her head to shout, “That’s for stitches, you moron!”

“You’re gonna look so stupid with it on!”

Ina giggles, “Stop fighting, you’re supposed to be relaxing.” She runs her hand through Amelia’s hair. Amelia sighs, getting comfortable again. “Go ahead and take a nap. We’ll wake you up when the food is done and you can go back to your case afterward.”

That didn’t sound so bad. Amelia hums in acknowledgment. Drowsiness and lack of sleep are pulling her down and she’s falling underneath sinfully wonderful hands. Each stroke along her scalp is soothing the stiffness of her shoulders and the tense muscles of her back. Her tail brushes the back of her knees with small, little wags.

“Too good at this.” Amelia slurs. She’s barely awake.

She can hear the smile in Ina’s voice, “I like it. I know you like it. It’s like getting a massage. I’m happy it can help.”

“Mhm.” Amelia’s ear twitches when a playful finger brushes through its fur. “Thanks.”

“Of course.” Another kiss pressed to the top of her head, “Get some sleep, Ame.”

.

.

Amelia barely remembers eating. In a sleepy haze, she had the food Gura made for her but barely remembers the taste of it. She recalls the feeling of being carried. She remembers Gura’s voice, soft in her ear, bedtime sunshine. She remembers being tucked in.

She wakes up in the middle of the night. Her head feels like a cloud. She’s lightheaded. She’d been using Gura as a pillow and the shark was utilizing that. Even while asleep, her hand was running thoughtlessly through her hair. The motions were uncoordinated but it was the touch of them along Amelia’s ears that had her sighing happily. She was floating. She could feel Ina pressed against her back, her breath against her neck as she slept.

I can relax a bit longer, Amelia thought, this is nice.

She turns her head into Gura’s shirt, the gentle caress of her fingers lulling her back to sleep.
