Work Text:
Once upon a time there was a sweet little girl—
"Oh, like me? Like me Kaeya?"
The blue-haired man just sighs at being interrupted another night, at the beginning of the story. The little girl looks at him with her big, expectant red eyes, and he can't help but smile fondly.
"Yes Klee, just like you"
Once upon a time there was a sweet little girl who loved her mother and her grandmother very much.
"Do I have a grandmother, Sucrose?"
Klee asks with a genuine tone that even Sucrose, who is hugging the little girl close to her, seems to seriously think about it for a minute.
"I couldn't tell you for sure”.
"You should have one," Albedo butts in, snuggling into Sucrose's neck with half-lidded eyes, "Now hush, so Kaeya can continue telling the story."
Both girls apologize, covering their mouths with their hands as they laugh quietly. Albedo covers the four of them with the blanket again, unable to hide the softness in his movements.
A beat passes by, warm settling in their hearts before Kaeya continues reading, in his deep, velvety narrator’s voice.
Once upon a time there was a sweet little girl who loved her mother and her grandmother very much. She helped them in everything she could and since she was so good, on her birthday her grandmother gave her a red hood. Since he liked her so much and went with her everywhere, soon everyone started calling her Little Red Riding Hood.
"Kaeya, Kaeya." He hums, pausing the lecture to listen to her "Shouldn't you all call me like that too?"
Three confused gazes turn to her, and Klee has no choice but to look for support. Dodoco, her fluffy friend who is covered with the blanket right next to her, awakens from his sleep.
"I also have a red cloak, isn’t that right Dodoco?
Dodoco nods. That’s all that the reasoning she needs.
"Well, that's what we'll call you then." Sucrose says easily, kissing Klee's blonde hair, "Our Little Red Riding Hood”.
Klee laughs, with the kind of joy that only little children can have, and it fills her heart with happiness. Kaeya picks up the narration for the fourth time in the night, doing different voices for certain characters. They all easily get in the rhythm at which he reads - one in love with the story, another with the depth of his voice, and the last one with both.
The volume gets lower and lower, until all that’s left are the little girl's calm breaths. By then, Kaeya was about to close the book and sleep as Albedo was already doing, until a hand wrapped around his.
The slender fingers of his lover belong to Sucrose, who is looking up at him with her lovely golden eyes, in a silent request that almost begged him to finish the story - way too curious to hear it from his lips, even if she already knows how it ends.
And, oh, what other choice did Kaeya have?
He reads the happy ending in whispers, close to her. A sweet smile, almost as sweet as hers, graces her lips. She closes her eyes easily after Kaeya gives her a forehead kiss, feeling Albedo’s arm around her and Klee’s chest going up and down from where she rests her hand.
Needless to say, Klee wasn't the only one dreaming of fairy tales that night.
