Chapter Text
That was it.
Tommy was gone.
For now, anyway.
Dream figured he should wait a while before reviving him.. because everybody deserves some time to themselves, right?
..Even villains.
===
Two days have passed.
The curiosity was getting to him.
For the past couple days, the only thing on Dream's mind has been, "What's death like?".
Dream debated the pros and cons.
Spoiler, curiosity won.
It seems the time to revive Tommy has come.
First try.
Okay, that didn't work. Maybe.
Second try.
That definitely didn't work, Dream couldn't hear screaming.
Third try.
Dream was kind of losing hope.
Fourth try.
Nope, still not working.
"Surely fifth try's the charm?"
..Fifth try.
Still no child screaming at him.
Does the process require time?
Surely not.
But it was the only solution.
Twenty-four hours, that was the maximum amount of time Dream would wait.
===
Okay, so, Dream waited twenty-four hours, to no avail.
Dream was getting frustrated.
What could he have forgotten?
Dream thought hard as he paced around the scorching hot prison cell.
======
Tommy was not having fun.
"Tommy-"
"For the last time Wil, I don't want to play competitive solitaire with you!"
See? Tommy was having a horrible time.
Things wouldn't be getting better.
===
In a completely different part of the server, our friendly Ghostbur is making his way over to the entrance of the prison Tommy died in.
<Tubbo_> Ghostbur are you there yet
Ghostbur jumped a bit when Tubbo messaged him. Pulling out his communicator, he responded that he was almost there.
Just then, he heard a voice behind him, “Hello?” It whispered.
Ghostbur recognised that voice. It was… Tommy!
“Hello Tomm.. y,” Ghostbur said joyfully, turning around to face Tommy.
There was a fellow ghost behind him.
“..’m not Tommy. I’m ghost.. innit,” it whispered.
Ghostbur exploded with a fit of confusion.
“You were Tommy though, right..?” Ghostbur finally asked.
Ghostinnit slowly nodded.
After a few moments of silence, Ghostinnit finally mumbled something about look-alikes.
“Pardon?” Ghostbur said quickly, trying to piece together what he said.
Half-yelling, Ghostinnit responded with “I said you look like someone I knew!”
Ghostbur didn’t think he looked like anyone else.
Alivebur?
Ghostbur didn’t want to think about him.
Choosing to ignore what Ghostinnit said, Ghostbur told him, “I’m going to go meetup with Tubbo now, bye-bye Tommy!”, cheerfully resuming his journey.
“Ghostinnit..” the fellow ghost grumbled after him.
Looking behind him, Ghostbur saw To- Ghostinnit following him.
Ghostbur figured he just wanted to see Tubbo, so he let Ghostinnit tag along.
Ghostbur was nearly to the entrance, when he remembered Tubbo wanted gunpowder.
“Tomm-” Ghostbur began, before being interrupted by Ghostinnit correcting him.
“Ghostinnit, then, Tubbo is over there. You can go say hi while I go get some gunpowder for him.”
“Tubbo?” Ghostinnit asked with a confused look on his semi-transparent face.
“Yeah. Tubbo. Your best friend.” Ghostbur told him hurriedly, panic rushing through him as Ghostinnit asked “Who?”.
A beat of silence.
Ghostinnit exclaimed suddenly,“Oh!”
Relief coursed through Ghostbur, forcing a sigh out of him.
Ghostinnit continued, “He’s the one who exiled Aliveinnit!” He sounded too happy when he said this.
Ghostbur froze. “Funny joke Tommy. Now go on, go talk to Tubbo..”
“‘m not Tommy..” Ghostinnit muttered, trudging along the grass in front of the prison. Ghostinnit didn’t know this was where Dream was.
===
Tubbo looked over to see the translucent figure of Ghostbur gliding towards him. Tubbo bent back down over his crafting table to check if he had everything he needed for the plan. He looked back up.
Ghostbur was closer now.
Tubbo could see his red and white shirt clearer now. He bent back over his crafting table.
Wait.
Red and white? Tubbo shot up to look at.. Tommy?
“Hey Tommy, how did you get out of the prison?” He asked, waving. Ghostinnit began speaking right before Tubbo noticed. “Why does everyone think I’m Tommy?!”
Ghostinnit learned later that he did not make a good first impression on Tubbo.
“So.. you don’t remember how or where you died?” Tubbo asked the ghost, trying to make sense of the little information that was so important at the same time.
Ghostinnit nodded.
..Tubbo was angry.
Tubbo didn’t know why.
The more he looked at Ghostinnit’s face, the more angry he was.
Tubbo looked at his fri- at Ghostinnit.
Tubbo didn’t really want to tell him this. He wanted Tommy back. It was unfair. He didn't want Ghostinnit.
Tubbo sighed. “Listen.. You’re not the Tommy I know.”
Ghostinnit frowned. “I’m not Tommy. But I can still be friends with you!” Ghostinnit smiled the familiar smile Tubbo knew.
But it wasn’t right. Tubbo continued, he was losing his patience. “You don’t get it do you? I don’t want to see you. Ever.”
“..Tubbo.” Ghostinnit began speaking. But he never got to finish.
Tubbo couldn’t stand it.
Knowing he would never hear his best friend alive again.
Tubbo swatted at the now-saddened ghost, who backed away with a yelp.
“Tubbo! What the fuck man?” Ghostinnit called after Tubbo, storming away. Someone was waiting for Tubbo nearby.
—------------------------------
Ghostbur floated over to where Ghostinnit was.
“Tommy?”
“I’m not Tommy. But.. I guess you call me that.”
“Where’s Tubbo going?”
“Dunno. He just ran away from me.”
“Huh. Weir-”
“Ghostbur I want to learn about Aliveinnit.”
“What?”
“Tell me about Aliveinnit.”
“Well he was kind, and he had these dis-”
“No. What happened to him? How was he different from me?”
“Well.. He went into an exile with Dream, and h-”
“THAT’S IT!”
Ghostbur winced at the noise.
“Sorry. Just had a sudden realisation. I can go ask Dream about AliveInnit!”
“Oh. Okay then Tommy! I’m going to go find Tubbo now, bye-bye!”
For the next few days, Ghostinnit spent his time preparing and planning for his grand scheme.
—------------------------------
Ghostinnit glided over to the prison.
“Why was Dream in prison anyway?”
Awesamdude was already at the entrance. Ghostinnit swore Sam caught a glimpse of him, and was immediately proved right when Sam drew his sword, yelling into the night.
“Who’s there!?”
Ghostinnit was going to need Sam to let him in somehow.
“It’s me, Sam.”
Ghostinnit regret saying that a moment too late.
“Tommy..? Is that… you?”
“God, why does everyone refer to me as Tommy for fuck’s sake?! Why does everyone forget I’m Ghostinnit?”
He kept mumbling until Sam interrupted.
He sighed. “Tommy.. I’m so sorry. I couldn’t get there in time..”
Ghostinnit didn’t know what he was talking about but he could tell the man was disappointed with himself.
“It’s my fault. I’m so.. sorry..”
Ghostinnit wanted to know. But not from him.
A few moments of silence, only interrupted by the sound of Sam sniffling.
Okay, Ghostinnit really wanted to know now.
“What are you talking about Sam!?”
Same just hung his head even lower.
Ghostinit sighed, knowing he wouldn’t be able to get in the way things were going.
“Sam, can you please let me into Dream’s cell.”
Sam almost dropped his sword.
“What..? Why would you want to go there?”
“Dream is my friend,” Ghostinnit told him, having to choose his next words carefully due to the look of confusion and shock on Sam’s green face. “I want to talk to him. I want to ask him some questions.”
—------------------------------
“Tommy! You don’t want to go there!”
Sam was yelling at him.
“Sam. You don’t understand.”
He ran through the prison as fast as he could.
Ghostinnit was almost there. He could see the lava. He just knew that was where Dream was.
Sam wasn’t going to empty the lava.
Now or never. Sam was approaching rapidly.
Ghostinnit jumped into the lava.
“Tommy!”
He didn’t like Sam calling him Tommy. Right now, only Ghostbur could call him that.
Ghostinnit pushed through the thick lava.
A purple colour was coming into view.
He pushed harder.
He made it onto a platform.
Out of the lava at last.
“..Tommy?”
===
Ghostinnit whipped around to face the voice.
“Dream!”
“Hello Tommy. But- how are you here?”
“I ‘snuck’ in.”
He looked so proud saying this.
“Well then.. Why are you here?”
“I want to ask you about AliveInnit.”
“How much do you remember? We can start from there.”
“I remember exile, uh.. two people, you and someone else.. you being my best friend.. not much.”
“Hmm.. Interesting.”
Dream could work with this. Together, him and Tommy- or his ghost anyway- could probably become unstoppable.
Although- it depends on who the other person was.
“Can you describe the other person to me?”
“They had brown hair.. and I was with them for something called L’manberg.. We might’ve fought in a war, not sure about that. But we fought together. They also had a look-alike that I met. I guess he has a sibling?”
Dream couldn’t think of anyone with a sibling. But.. could it be Wilbur? Tubbo? They both fit the description. Dream assumed it wasn’t Eret, since he betrayed them. Eret didn’t fight with them for long.
Wait.
Look-alike?
How alike?
..Ghostbur and Wilbur look very similar.
Tommy probably met Ghostbur.
Dream liked this version of Tommy much better.
“I think you’re talking about Wilbur. Is that correct?”
Ghostinnit gasped. “I remember him!”
And so, Dream started telling his very, very twisted tale of AliveInnit’s history.
—------------------------------
“..I’ve decided what I want to do.”
“Hmm?”
“Here. Take this.”
Ghostinnit threw him a fire resistance potion.
This was his ticket out of prison.
Where did he even get it?
Dream had so many questions.
“How did you even manage to get this past Sam?
“I just did, because I’m so poggers.”
Dream stifled a groan. That was the Tommy he knew.
But Dream couldn’t risk upsetting him.
This was his one chance - he couldn’t screw it up.
“Also.. I need a pickaxe. Do you have one in your enderchest?”
“Yeah, but how am I supposed to get it? There’s no ender che-”
“I’ve got one on me.”
Ghostinnit placed an ender chest in front of him.
He opened it carefully, hopefully Sam wouldn’t hear. Even if the sound of the bubbling lava was really loud.
Taking out a pickaxe carefully, he gave it to Tommy.
“Here.”
“Right, let’s go!”
Ghostinnit picked up the ender chest and leaped into the lava.
Dream practically inhaled the fire resistance potion, and leaped in after Tommy.
===
The sound of the prison sirens were blaring throughout the entire server.
Tommy and Dream were hiding in a cave, waiting for the sirens to stop.
Meanwhile, Tubbo and Quackity were desperately trying to find Ghostinnit.
“Big Q. We have to find him before Dream can.”
“I know, Tubbo.”
“Here. Have this. Just in case you see Dream.”
“Alrighty then. I’ll be on my way.”
“Alright. I will as well.”
===
In the end, neither of them could find Ghostinnit.
“Any luck?” Tubbo asked. He was definitely about to tear up.
“Nope..”
In fact, nobody saw Ghostinnit for a month.
Except..
Dream saw him every hour of the next month.
======
“DREAAAAAAAAAAAM! I’VE FOUND VERY IMPORRRRRRRTANT INFORMATION!”
Dream was hearing this for the hundredth time, but he ran over to Tommy’s side of the laboratory anyway.
“What is it?”
“Dream. The revive book needs a sacrifice to work properly.”
“..What?”
“So in summary.. AliveInnit was your sacrifice. You can revive someone now. But AliveInnit can never be revived. Ever. And I don’t want to go anyway.”
“So we could revive Wilbur?”
Ghostinnit gasped.
“Would you do it? For me?”
“Well, I mean- not particularly for you specifically, but- yeah, yeah I would! ..For you.”
“You just contradicted yourself Dream.”
Ghostinnit and Dream looked at each for a split second, and burst into laughter.
Or for Dream’s matter, burst into his true form.
A tea kettle.
“Okay, but in all seriousness. Should we begin?”
“Let’s go!”
—------------------------------
Tubbo was out of string.
Somehow.
Tubbo needed string.
He was going to ‘borrow’ everyone’s string.
“Ghostbur? Do you have any string?”
“I have plenty! You can have all of it if you want!”
“Alright! Pog, thank you! Can you show me where?”
“Of course!”
Tubbo was following Ghostbur.
Normal day.
Tubbo took damage suddenly, and turned around.
Just a zombie.
Tubbo defeated it with a single slash of his axe, and turned back around.
“Ghostbur?”
He was gone.
“Ghostbur? Where have you gone?”
There was only blue on the ground in front of him.
“..Ghostbur?”
WilburSoot left the game
—------------------------------
WilburSoot joined the game
“Wilbur?”
That was the first thing he heard when he returned to the mortal plane.
The voice of TommyInnit.
Tommy fucking Innit.
The voice he's heard a lot of already.
Why wouldn't he just play solitaire with him?
Eh, he wouldn't have to worry about solitaire anyway.
Wilbur finally opened his eyes.
He took a deep breath.
“I’m back.”
He laughed.
“I’m back.”
“How do you feel?”
Dream.
Was Dream the one that revived him?
Dream was-
Dream was his saviour.
This was amazing.
He looked around.
There was Dream, and there were brewing stands, bookshelves, and a ghost..
“Hey! Ghostinnit!”
“Oh my fucking god. I’m surrounded with people with decency. Wilbur. I give you permission to call me Tommy, like Dream. People who recognise me as Ghostinnit.”
“Okay, we can do more reunion things later. But Wilbur, I have a few things to explain to you. Follow me.”
Wilbur followed Dream into a dusty storage room.
Dream had to explain everything about Ghostinnit, the revival process, everything that’s happened since Wilbur was gone.
“So it’s me, you, and Tommy isn’t it? Against the rest of them?”
“Exactly.”
