Work Text:
It was a beautiful Saturday evening and Finn and Rey had just started to reach the point in their jog where their strides were starting to sync up when Rey motioned for them to stop.
“You okay?” Finn followed her off the park’s path and behind a clump of bushes.
“Yeah, I – there, do you hear that?” Rey crouched down and peered into the foliage.
“It’s a bush, Rey,” Finn teased.
“I grew up in a desert, not an alien planet,” she groused back. “Hey, look at you.” She gestured with her head and there, he spotted it: an orange tabby cat.
“No collar or tag, but he doesn’t look like a stray,” he noted. Well-fed, nice coat, and apparently no fear of humans if the way he was approaching Rey was anything to go by. “Probably stays indoors most of the time.”
“What if we just–?”
“You know Plutt enforces our building’s no pets policy like it’s his job. Which it technically is.”
“Just until we can get him to a humane society,” Rey pleaded. “If we leave him out here, he’s probably going to get killed - you said it yourself, he’s probably a house cat.”
Finn sighed. It wasn’t like he could seriously deny Rey something once her heart was set on it. “Okay,” he relented. “But first thing Monday morning, we run him down to an animal shelter.”
“Alright, now we just have to figure out how to smuggle you into our apartment,” Rey mused. “If only my Uncle Han were here…”

“Beebs!” The cat’s true owner gathered him up into a quick embrace. The extremely handsome middle-aged gentleman flashed an unforced grin at them both. “Thanks so much for responding to my poster - you always fear the worst when you see one of those. Can, uh, can I make it up to the two of you?”
Finn exchanged a quick look with Rey, confirming his suspicions about how easy Mr. Poe Dameron was on the eyes. “Buy us a drink?” he offered.
