Magic

Summary:

It was supposed to be an ordinary school day for Nikkō Aino and her friends Korime Kaneshiro, Amaira Hayashi, Homura Ara, Kūki Shiratori and Aki Abo. After school, the six girls were all supposed to head over to Nikkō's family restaurant to help out. But on the way, the girls rescue a stray cat that turns out to be magic. The cat tells the girls that they are really magical princesses from the magical realm of Epheria and that the dimension has been taken over by an evil lord. The cat tells the girls that now that they are of age, they must stop the evil lord and take back Epheria by collecting twelve magical charms. Confused and in shock, the girls ignore the cat's words and try to go on with their lives. But when strange creatures begin to attack their home, the girls realize that they will have to stop the evil lord after all.

Notes:

Hello everyone and welcome to the very first magical girl story I have ever written!!! I love magical girl animes and when I was little I used to spend hours pretending that I was a magical princess from another dimension. Sailor Moon, Lolirock and Glitter Force are my top three favorite magical girl animes and you'll see that this story is basically Glitter Force meets Lolirock meets Sailor Moon what with the magic jewelry, lost royalty, the elemental magic powers, magical charms, wands and wands that turn into weapons. Haven't quite decided if there's gonna be a talking magical animal sidekick though. The story is set in Japan as well so i'm gonna do my best to make it as accurate to Japanese culture as possible. Which means lots and lots of research, starting with making sure the main girls have names that make sense. Also be warned, this story is more than likely going to be extremely tropey. Anyway, hope you guys all enjoy!!!

P.S. the title is a placeholder. I think. Who knows, might grow on me.

P.S.S. Fair warning, there will also be a lot of gratuitous Japanese in this story as well.

Chapter 1

Notes:

Hello everyone and welcome to the first chapter. A little rundown on names:

Korime Kaneshiro's name combines the kanji for ice (氷) and the kanji for princess (姫). So Kori's name literally translates to Ice Princess. Same with her last name. Kori's last name combines the kanji for money (金) with the kanji for castle (城) which translates to Money Castle. What can I say, I like puns. I mean, this isn't a good pun but I thought it'd be a good reference to Kori's magic, her royal heritage and the fact that she's the adopted daughter of two of the richest people in Japan.

Amaira Hayashi's name combines Amai (the Japanese word for sweet) and Bara (rose in Japanese). So Amaira's name translates to Sweet Rose.

Kūki and Nikkō's names mean Air and Sunshine in Japanese respectively and Homura and Aki's mean fire and crystal.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Nikkō Aino dodged through the throngs of students as she pushed her way to the front of the school.

"Excuse me! Pardon me! Watch out, coming through!" Nikkō yelled. Many students waved at her as they moved out of her way. Nikkō practically barreled her way right up to one of the girls that was part of the school's morning greeting committee.

"Kori!" Nikkō yelled, grabbing the taller girl up in a hug. Korime Kaneshiro was a fairly tall girl for a highschooler at five foot nine. She had always towered over the girls in her friend group, lending to her nickname of Lily-chan among close friends and family. Kori had long waist length straight black hair with her long bangs cut straight across in a hime cut, pale skin and a round face with pretty dark brown eyes and delicate features. She looked absolutely prim and proper dressed in her school uniform, the academy colors of white and gold standing out again her pale skin.

"Good morning, Nikkō." Kori said, giving Nikkō a slight squeeze. Nikkō released Kori and stepped back. Nikkō and Kori had been best friends for as long as Nikkō could remember, ever since their first day at hoikuen. Kori came from one of the richest, most influential families in all of Japan and was heiress to Kaneshiro Corp, the largest and most influential tech corporation in the entire world. Nikkō came from a middle class family and would one day take over her parents small family restaurant. Kori was reserved and quiet whereas Nikkō was loud and outgoing. The two were as different as different could be and yet somehow they had clicked instantaneously and been inseparable ever since. Their little duo became a trio in youchien, when Homura Ara joined them. That trio became a quartet in shōgakkō, Aki Abo joining them. Then they reached chūgakkō and their quartet became a sextuple when Kūki Shiratori and Amaira Hayashi joined them.

Now the four girls were second years in the most prestigious academy in all of Japan. Saikou Academy was an elite school known to churn out highly achieving students that would go on to become highly influential people. Kori was part of many clubs in the school, such as the Student Council, Archery Club, The school clean up committee, the morning welcoming committee, the swim team, tennis, track, debate club, chess club, a study club and a few other clubs that were escaping Nikkō's mind at the minute.

"I'm gonna head in, change my shoes and say hi to Aki, Kūki, Amaira and Homura before class." Nikkō said. Kori nodded.

"See you in class." Kori said. Nikkō waved and then hurried into the school. After changing her shoes, she hurried into the courtyard, immediately spotting Amaira's pink sakura hairpin shining in the sun, standing out starkly against Amaira's dark brown locks. Nikkō ran over to her and hugged her.

"Amaira! Good morning!" Nikkō yelled as she hugged the shorter girl. Amaira gave her a hug back.

"Good morning, Nikkō." Amaira said in her usual soft tone. Amaira had a heart shaped face, big warm brown eyes that looked doe-like and added to Amaira's overall sweet nature, slightly tanned skin from spending all of her free time outside and long wavy dark brown hair that fell to her hips. Amaira had a soft, shy nature and a love of sweets that had earned her the nickname Dango-chan or Dango for short after Amaira's favorite food.

Homura Ara entered the courtyard with her usual fanfare, which was to say, none. Homura had warm toned skin, wavy black hair that hung down to her elbows and deep brown eyes and a diamond shaped face. Aki Abo followed not too far behind as did Kūki Shiratori.

Aki had long mahogany brown hair, a round shaped face and brown eyes and slightly pale skin. Kūki had a heart shaped face, pale skin and long straight black hair that sometimes looked blue in certain kinds of light. Nikkō gave them each their own hug.

"Good morning, guys!" Nikkō said. Homura grumbled under her breath about how it was way too early for Nikkō's cheeriness. Nikkō ignored her as always. Homura was always supper grumpy in the mornings. Especially on Mondays, which was today. Homura was also kinda always grumpy in general, which was why she didn't have too many friends outside of the other girls. Homura's grumpy, sparky nature could be a bit off-putting to people that weren't used to her.

Aki was her usual bouncy self while Kūki gave a sleepy wave. Aki was always up and rearing to go and always acted like she was hyped on pure shots of caffeine. Kūki was more reserved though, and tended to to as the calming wind to Aki's strong, frenzied hurricane. The four girls conversed for a while until it was almost class's time.

"Don't forget today that you guys promised to help me out at my parents restaurant today." Nikkō said. Homura rolled her eyes.

"Have we ever?" Homura asked. Nikkō bounced in place.

"Just reminding." Nikkō pulled her bag higher up on her shoulder.

"I'm gonna use the restroom before class. So you guys at lunch!" Nikkō as she took off. Aki, Homura, Kūki and Amaira all waved their Goodbyes as Nikkō dashed off.

After relieving her bladder, Nikkō exited the stall and washed her hands and smoothed down her uniform. Nikkō had a heart shaped face, big brown eyes that many people described as happy and inviting, warm toned skin and slightly wavy shoulder length brown hair. Nikkō was a perpetually bright and sunny girl which had earned her the nickname Sun-chan among friends, family and peers. It also helped that her name also literally meant sunshine. Nikkō smoothed down her hair and finished smoothing out her uniform and then dashed out of the bathroom to class before the bell. She had a feeling that today was going to be a great day.

Notes:

And that concludes the first chapter!! I'm constantly doing research on Japanese culture as I write this story but i'd also like to hear from any Japanese readers as well!!
