Work Text:

Soulmates were a popular subject matter on Kamino.

Never in front of the long-necks though, they hated being reminded of the fact that their precious experiments weren’t perfect clones and that they, in fact, did have soulmates.

Eye colours that would reflect the colour that was associated with their soulmate the most.

“So…” Kix tapped at his datapad, “… Cody’s soulmate is someone associated with an almost reddish/brown colour. Pond’s is someone associated with purple, Rex an almost orange/brown colour, Wolffe, a light shade of mottled brown, Fox with yellow and Bly with blue.”

“Maybe your soulmates are Jedi!” Fives claimed when he took a seat at the table, causing them all to hiss at him.

Jedi for soulmates, the idea was ridiculous.

………………………………………………………………….

Jesse frowned at the sight of Bly leaning against a nearby wall, eyes staring off into the distance.

“Oh, I know that look.” He sighed, grateful that he was one of the ‘unlucky’ ones who didn’t get a soulmate, “Who are they.”

“General Secura.” Bly whispered, “I’m pretty sure anyway.”

Jesse frowned. Cody knew that General Kenobi almost immediately, the same with Wolffe and General Plo… and then he saw that Bly still had his blue eyes, “Didn’t you take your helmet off to confirm it?”

Bly buried his face in his hands, “She was so pretty!” He whined, “I didn’t want her to see that I was blushing, so I didn’t, and it was only when I was leaving, that I realised that there was a chance that she was my soulmate.”

“Which of course means…” Jesse started slowly, as though Bly was an idiot, “… that you’re currently trying to remember her comm number to arrange a meeting and confirm it.”

“… Or I could not?”

“You’re an idiot.” Sighing, Jesse moved to lean next to him, “Cody has been writing poetry since meeting his soulmate, and I think Wolffe was looking up Kel Dor courting rituals last time I checked. Ponds is convinced General Windu is his soulmate, because who else has a purple lightsaber and Fox and Rex… well, they’re keeping their mouths shut if they have met their soulmates.”

Bly still looked unsure.

“Alright, I can see you need more help.” Jesse sighed, “Luckily, you have the master of romance to help you.”

“Master of- you deliberately walked into walls so that you could see Kix, before he gave you the lecture of your life!”

“Who told yo- Rex.”

“He is the youngest of our batch.... funny stories about his team keeps us from reminding him about his own fails.”

Jesse eyes lit up, before Bly hit him in the arm. “Forget it shiny... you need to help me first, then maybe I can tell you a few stories.”

….............................................................

Bly took the first piece of advice, spending what little credits he earned by buying some traditional Twi’lek treats from a bakery on Coruscant before his next meeting with General Secura. He kept his helmet on to hide his expression as he strode onto the ship, forcing himself to breathe when he saw General Secura already there, examining the cockpit.

He approached her slowly, clearing his throat and waiting for her to turn to him. When she did, he held out the bag, hoping he didn’t look too eager.

Judging from the smile on her face, he hadn’t been all that successful.

“Commander Bly, correct?” She asked, her accent shaping around his name perfectly.

“Yes General.”

She winced at the term, something that all the Jedi seemed to have in common, if the stories from his brothers were evidence enough.

“Please, call me Aayla.”

Bly knew he was grinning like a fool behind his helmet. Could she sense that in the Force?

Was that possible?

“Do I get to see you with your helmet off at some point?” She teased, “I think you’re the only one in this regiment that has yet to remove it.”

“We-we all look pretty much the same.” Bly stammered, “You’re not missing out on much!”

Those pale yellow eyes (which must have been unnerving for the Order if the tales of the Sith were anything to go off) fixed on his helmet.

“Somehow… I doubt that.” She stated, voice soft despite the firmness of her tone.

Was it just Bly, or was there a little bit of hope there as well?

Slowly, his hands moved up to the catches that kept his helmet fastened to the rest of the armour, only to freeze when the holo started to beep with an incoming message.

General Secura… Aayla muttered something in her native tongue that sounded like a curse if Bly’s limited experiences with languages knew anything about it.

He lowered his hands and stood to attention as Master Yoda appeared over the comms.

Another time maybe.

………………………………………………….

General Secura had some sort of ration bar in her hands… but it didn’t look like a regular ration bar, not the one he was used to.

“Do you want to try some Commander?”

“Ummm- “

“- I know, it looks like a ration bar.” She chuckled, “But I promise it’s not.” She pulled another one out of the compartments in her belt, “Here.”

Bly didn’t even think about it, pulling his helmet off with one hand and taking the treat with his other one, ripping open the foil wrapping and taking a bite.

“Woah.” He mumbled; mouth full of the sweet treat. It was sticky and sweet, and possibly one of the best things he’d ever eaten. Without thinking about it, he looked up to tell the General this, their eyes meeting.

Cody’s stories didn’t even begin to describe this sensation of locking eyes with your soulmate.

Bly’s heart felt like it was going to beat right out of his chest, breath caught in his throat. It felt like he could die right now, at this moment, and he wouldn’t care in the slightest.

“G-General, I- “Bly really didn’t know what he could say. He felt hysterical, like if he opened his mouth again, he’d just start laughing and never stop.

“I know.” Was her simple reply. If she felt the felt things he was feeling, she didn’t let it show on her face.

Was she nervous?

Was she even HIS soulmate?

Was it an unrequited situation? Could those even happen with soulmates.

“Stop panicking.” She whispered, “Deep breaths and look into my eyes.”

Bly did as he was told, seeing with a jolt that her once-yellow eyes were gone, to be replaced with warm pools of brown that reminded him of the chocolatey snack he’d just eaten.

“Your eyes are like honey.” She chuckled as he flushed, realising that he’d said the previous thoughts out loud, “Forgive me.” She then said, “For being so… forward. It is rare that Jedi find their soulmates, and with so many finding them in the past few months… I was just excited to see if you were mine.”

“Excited?”

“Very.” She smiled warmly at him, and Bly felt an overwhelming urge to kiss her there and then.

“Why don’t you?”

Kriff…he’d said that out-loud again

Oh well… if she already knew his intentions.

Slowly, giving her the chance to say no, he pressed their lips together in a gentle kiss.

He found his soulmate.

He was finally complete.

Nothing could ruin this.
