Work Text:
Izuku was upset. Anyone would be when their husband, new husband in which this was their first Valentine's, had been at work since the day before. His husband, ever the workaholic, insisted on working on Valentine's day. Which was fine. Not like Izuku had planned their day for months.
Yeah, definitely not.
Izuku sat on the couch of their silent apartment, sweatpants on instead of the fancy outfit he should have on. He had made reservations at a nice restaurant before Katsuki had told him he was going to work today.
Now, Uraraka and Iida were enjoying their night on his reservations.
He was wrapped in a soft blanket, eating chocolate and waiting very patiently for his husband's return. At this point, he wasn't even angry. He was sad that he was alone, on Valentine's, even though he was married. He was sitting in a quiet apartment, eating chocolate, while his husband was out on patrol.
That being said, the husband in question should be home any minute now. His patrol ended a half-hour ago, and Katsuki usually walked to their agency, so he should be arriving any minute. Izuku wished the time would go faster so he could just curl up in his husband's embrace already.
Just as he was thinking that, the door swung open. He turned his head to see Katsuki standing there, hair stuck to his forehead in sweat, dirt coating his features.
"Sorry it took me so long to get home, 'Zuku." He said, closing the door and locking it. "Bunch of people called off tonight so I had to cover an extra patrol." He walked into the living room where Izuku was sitting, and planted a kiss on his forehead. "I'm gonna get a shower. I'll be back."
Then, Katsuki retreated into the bathroom.
Izuku sighed. His husband was never one to understand feelings. It was something they worked on a lot, but he never really got better. He heard the water turn on in the bathroom and he closed his eyes. He didn't think about it, just felt the tears well up in his eyes. He had always been a bit of a crybaby. That wasn't going to stop now
He buried his head in his knees, soaking the blanket with tears. It wasn't something he was proud of. But Katsuki knew how important days like this were for him. He was angry that it didn't seem like his husband cared. He knew he did, he knew he was overthinking again. But something crept into his mind that maybe his husband really didn't care.
He took a deep breath to settle himself as he heard the water turn off in the bathroom. He wiped his tears and sat back again, absentmindedly turning on the television. He saw a clip of his husband running into a burning building. This rescue was a few days ago, but got a lot of coverage. He watched as he saw himself run in after Katsuki, both of them carrying people out of the building before it collapsed. Once everyone was safe, he winced as he saw the beam fall on the TV version of himself. Yeah, that had hurt. He watched as Katsuki ran over and lifted it off of his leg, lifting him and carrying him to the waiting paramedics.
In the end, nothing had been broken. He was okay after it all, just some bruises.
He was lost in watching the television that he didn't see Katsuki walk up behind him. He didn't realize he was there until he felt the familiar warm arms wrap around his torso. He jumped a bit before relaxing into them.
"Baby, what did we say about watching the news late at night?" He asked, grabbing the remote and turning the machine off. He pressed a kiss to Izuku's temple.
"I know... I know." Izuku responded, voice much weaker than he had wanted it to be.
"What's wrong?" Katsuki asked, shifting so he was in front of Izuku instead, kneeling on the ground in front of the couch.
"Just missed you." Izuku whispered, willing the tears that had started to form to leave. Instead, they fell down his face.
"Izuku." Katsuki said, grabbing his face gently. "Tell me, please. What did I do?"
"It's just-" He sniffled. "It's our first Valentine's as a married couple. And you were gone all day." He explained, feeling embarrassed now. "It's stupid, but I was excited. And you weren't here."
"'Zuku, baby, I'm so sorry." Katsuki's face softened, looking genuinely sorry. "I didn't even think about it. I'm sorry." He placed a chaste kiss on his husbands lips.
"'s okay." Izuku said quietly, blinking rapidly.
"It's not." Katsuki shook his head. "Let me make it up to you. I'll make you some katsudon, and we can watch your favorite movie, and we can cuddle all night."
As much as it seemed like a good plan, he didn't want his husband to be gone from him again. Even if it was just to the kitchen.
Izuku shook his head. "Just- hold me?" He asked, holding his arms out.
Katsuki was around him in seconds, strong arms wrapping around his middle. He smiled as he felt the still-wet hair brush over his neck, the familiar weight of Katsuki Bakugou settling behind him.
After a moment, he couldn't even remember why he was so upset.
