Art Notes:
I don't remember a lot from the 2020 event, like, what I was feeling when I decided to participate. But, maybe it'll come to me as I type. Um, so I tried it for the first time the year before, and I think I wanted to give it one more try since I had a good grasp on how the event went. And, I got done early enough that I did two submissions again. Since this submission was labeled as my early bird, I'm guessing that this was the first idea that I had.

Short description of art: Sad, young, demon!sam crying on the floor of his room and bleeding from the new horns on his head. Wings have bursted from his hoodie and he has a tail wrapped around his leg. Sam is calling out to Dean, whether for help or mercy is up to the author. Dean's shadow is on the floor, and his reflection is in the mirror.

I think I was struggling with ideas again. So, I just started putting random ideas together to see what worked. Angst, demon blood!Sam, eldritch feels, forced vulnerability, bro dynamic, etc. And, I eventually I got a yellow eyed devil!Sam scared and bleeding from his sudden transformation, only to be immediately caught by his big brother the heroic hunter.

I put him in this awkward pose because I wanted it to look like teen!Sam was reverting back to childhood responses. Like this was supposed to be a devastated pose but child like. Though tbh when looking up this pose I found out that it's not good for your pelvic alignment? or something. So this had to be really uncomfortable for Sam. Poor Sam. Not to mention the horns, wings, and tail that basically ripped out of him in this scene. That had to hurt.
I used free textures found on google for the wood and carpet. The wallpapers I made myself. I was trying to make an old house/cabin feel for the background. In my head this was the room Sam was staying in. Sam's bed was right behind him and his dresser with a mirror behind that.
I used a young adult photo shoot of Jensen as reference for his silhouette and shadow. In my head it was supposed to be nighttime and the blue lighting was from the TV Dean had on in the other room. Like he was watching TV but then either a noise or the light were frizzing and he went to check on Sam and discovered this scene.
I put in the red glow in the room trying to make it look more ominous. I think I was thinking I was going to leave it up to the author if they wanted to make something of it, but I was thinking it could be a glow from a rift from hell if they wanted to go that route. Or from a red lava lamp that Sam randomly got.
I did kind of look at young child Jared refs for this, but he's got so little refs of him at that age that I kind of just did whatever. I believe I basically took some liberties and just filled in the blanks with what stereotypical anime-esque kids look like. I also tried to give Sam big Studio Ghibli-ish tears.
According to the notes I did forget Sam's moles at first, but I updated it later before the posting date and included them in.
I was actually happy with the final results of this piece in the end. I don't think I'd change much if I could go back and edit it.
