Chapter 1: Submission

Chapter Text

Art Notes:

I believe because of the anime-ish style of the first submission I was able to finish it fairly quickly. So, I had some time left to make a second one, but I had no ideas. Like at all. And I don't know why but for some reason I was looking back at my old masquerade art and saw the Jungle Book Au piece and was like.... I want that, but with a more realistic feel to it. And so I set out to make that.

This was the art summary for my second submission:

Art:

Emerald Tree Boa Naga!Jensen adorned with gold and ruby jewelry sitting on his stone throne.

I the main Jensen reference I used was from the 300th episode EW photo shoot for the face. The torso was harder. Jensen doesn't have a lot shirtless scenes and the one he does he's not sitting in them. So I had to outsource that pose to other people I found on Google or Pinterest.

And then for the snake body, I tried my best with just looking at Emerald Tree Boa google image pics.  I drew Jensen and his snake body first and then the background, so I had a hard time making it look like Jensen was sitting in the chair. I tried my best T^T. Also it was hard figuring out how to shade the torso and arms because the reference I had didn't have the right shading I needed. I tried one of the free posing programs but the specific shading and lighting I needed I believe would involve a paid for program. And probably more time than I had to figure it out.

Over all I was happy with it tho. I'm pretty proud of the headdress/crown I made for him.

It's been a while since I last looked all this up, but the symbol painted on Jensen was supposed to be a spiritual symbol. I'm not seeing exactly what I made, but the closest seems to be the Rāmānandī mixed a little with Nityananda Parivara symbol? Based on what I understand the symbols are supposed to represent devotion to Vishnu. And since it seems like Naga in Hinduism supported Vishnu is seemed fitting to put that symbol on Jensen.

Though Naga are typically cobras not boas in the lore. So, I'm taking probably a lot of liberties with the background context here. But, I wanted a bright green type snake, and emerald green boa looked the best to what I wanted.

Um, the jewelry is kind of random. I did look at some google images of Indian kings, but I think I mostly took ideas from Indian historical soaps (or were they movies?)?
